State Key Laboratory on Technologies for Chinese Medicine Pharmaceutical Process Control and Intelligent Manufacture, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, Jiangsu 210023, PR China; School of Pharmacy, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, PR China. Electronic address:

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a type of malignancy characterized by harboring the oncogene Bcr-Abl, which encodes the constitutively activated tyrosine kinase BCR-ABL. Although tyrosine kinase inhibitors targeting BCR-ABL have revolutionized CML therapy, native and acquired drug resistance commonly remains a great challenge. Thioredoxin 1 (Trx1) and glutamate-cysteine ligase (GCL), which are two major antioxidants that maintain cellular redox homeostasis, are potential targets for cancer therapy and overcoming drug resistance.

Empathy plays a crucial role in social communication and the perception of affective states and behavioral processes. In this study, we observed that empathic interaction with a mouse experiencing pain resulted in decreased mechanical pain thresholds and anxiety-like behaviors in its bystander, though the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. We demonstrated that CD38 expression in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN) was upregulated during empathic pain, and the pain and emotions of CD38 knockout (CD38KO) mice as bystanders were not affected.

Impaired spinal GABAergic inhibitory neuronal system is one popular target for developing new drugs or procedures for treatment of neuropathic pain, but effective and transferable methods are still lacking. We designed an assembled, temperature sensitive and sustained releasing hydrogel to repair the impaired GABAergic neural system by reversing imbalance of glutamic acid (Glu) and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and healing impaired Cl extrusion capacity of neurons. Hydrogel solution is a mixture of pluronic F-127, recombinant glutamate decarboxylase 67 (rGAD67) protein and CLP257, a K-Cl cotransporter isoform 2 (KCC2) enhancer.

J Inflamm Res

November 2024

Department of Neurology, Jinling Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, 210002, People's Republic of China.

Background And Purpose: Diet may influence systemic inflammatory status, vascular calcification, and, therefore, the development of atherosclerosis. The Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) is a measure of the inflammatory potential of diet. Although previous studies have examined the relationship between DII and cardiovascular diseases, its specific association with carotid artery calcification in ischemic stroke patients remains insufficiently explored.

The role of circulating metabolome in cognitive impairment is inconclusive, and whether the associations are in the severity-dependent manner remains unclear. We aimed to identify plasma metabolites associated with cognitive impairment and evaluate the added predictive capacity of metabolite biomarkers on incident cognitive impairment beyond traditional risk factors. In the Rugao Longevity and Ageing Study (RuLAS), plasma metabolome was profiled by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.

Article Synopsis
  • Age-related decline in intrinsic capacity (IC) affects functional ability and increases the risk of negative health outcomes like disability and mortality.
  • A study of 1,514 community elders revealed that poor sleep quality is linked to lower IC and a decline in IC over time.
  • Improving sleep health may help prevent IC decline, which could reduce the challenges faced in geriatric care.

Background: The present study aims to determine the impact of different cuff diameters on the cuff pressure of endotracheal tubes (ETTs) when the trachea is adequately sealed.

Methods: In the present single-center clinical trial, adult patients who underwent cardiothoracic surgery were assigned to use ETTs from 2 brands (GME and GZW). The primary endpoint comprised of the following: cuff diameter, inner diameter of the ETT, manufacturer, and the number of subjects with tracheal leakage when the cuff pressure was 30 cm H2O.

Article Synopsis
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a dangerous cancer with low survival rates, and sorafenib is a key drug used to treat it.
  • In this study, FOXQ1 was found to be overexpressed in HCC cells resistant to sorafenib, preventing a cell death process called ferroptosis.
  • JNK1, activated by sorafenib, phosphorylates FOXQ1 at serine 248, enhancing FOXQ1's ability to activate the ETHE1 gene, which helps reduce harmful lipid peroxidation and iron levels in cells.

Electronic address:

The treatment of peripheral nerve injury is a clinical challenge that tremendously affected the patients' health and life. Anisotropic topographies and electric cues can simulate the regenerative microenvironment of nerve from physical and biological aspects, which show promising application in nerve regeneration. However, most studies just unilaterally emphasize the effect of sole topological- or electric- cue on nerve regeneration, while rarely considering the synergistic function of both cues simultaneously.

The re-bridging of the deficient nerve is the main problem to be solved after the functional impairment of the peripheral nerve. In this study, a directionally aligned polycaprolactone/triiron tetraoxide (PCL/FeO) fiber scaffolds were firstly prepared by electrospinning technique, and further then grafted with IKVAV peptide for regulating DRG growth and axon extension in peripheral nerve regeneration. The results showed that oriented aligned magnetic PCL/FeO composite scaffolds were successfully prepared by electrospinning technique and possessed good mechanical properties and magnetic responsiveness.
