Safety and Efficacy of Multiple Escalating Doses of RC28-E for Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration: A Phase 1b Trial.

Introduction: To assess the safety and efficacy of repeated intravitreal injections of RC28-E, a novel bispecific antibody that simultaneously binds vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This was a prospective, multicenter, open-label clinical trial; 37 patients with choroidal neovascularization secondary to AMD and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) letter scores between 73 and 34 were enrolled.

Methods: Treatment regimens consisted of a 3-month loading phase and a pro re nata (PRN) maintenance phase.

Probucol will become a new model for treating cerebral infarction with a high risk of hemorrhage: A narrative review.

Lipid-lowering agents are relevant in stroke prevention. Probucol (PU) is an antioxidative and lipid-lowering drug that has been used to treat atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases and xanthomas. The drug penetrates the core of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) particles, enhancing the activity of plasma cholesterol l ester transfer protein (CETP) and strengthening the liver scavenger receptor type I, resulting in reducing LDL-C; by increasing the activity of paraoxonase 1, upregulating the antioxidant function of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and it decreases the serum HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) level.

Effect of PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway-based clustered nursing care combined with papaverine injection on vascular inflammation and vascular crisis after replantation of severed fingers.

This research aimed to investigate the effect of PI3K (phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase)/AKT (protein kinase B)/mTOR (mammalian target protein of rapamycin) signaling pathway-based clustering care combined with papaverine injection on vascular inflammation and vascular crisis after finger amputation and replantation. 100 patients admitted in General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University from April 2022 to December 2022 for replantation of severed fingers were selected and divided into a control group (n = 50) and an observation group (n = 50) using the randomized grouping principle. The control group received a papaverine injection and general nursing care, the observation group received a papaverine injection and clustered care.

Safety and immunogenicity of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in Chinese patients with cirrhosis: a prospective multicenter study.

Background: Data on safety and immunogenicity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination in patients with compensated (C-cirrhosis) and decompensated cirrhosis (D-cirrhosis) are limited.

Methods: In this prospective multicenter study, adult participants with C-cirrhosis and D-cirrhosis were enrolled and received two doses of inactivated whole-virion COVID-19 vaccines. Adverse events were recorded within 14 days after any dose of vaccination, and serum samples of enrolled patients were collected and tested for SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies at least 14 days after the second dose.

Impaired generation of mature neurons due to extended expression of Tlx by repressing Sox2 transcriptional activity.

As a master regulator of the dynamic process of adult neurogenesis, timely expression and regulation of the orphan nuclear receptor Tailless (Tlx) is essential. However, there is no study yet to directly investigate the essential role of precise spatiotemporal expressed Tlx. Here, we generated a conditional gain of Tlx expression transgenic mouse model, which allowed the extended Tlx expression in neural stem cells (NSCs) and their progeny by mating with a TlxCreER mouse line.

Evaluation of the association between extravascular lung water and prognosis of sepsis: A protocol of systematic review.

Background: The purpose of this study is to explore the association between extravascular lung water (EVLW) and prognosis of sepsis (PS).

Methods: We will carry out comprehensive literature search in electronic databases (PUBMED/MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, WorldSciNet, PsycINFO, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, CBM, and CNKI) and additional sources. All electronic databases will be searched from their initial to the present without language restrictions.

Survey report on keratoplasty in China: A 5-year review from 2014 to 2018.

To provide the general information on corneal transplantation (CT) in China, China Cornea Society designed a questionnaire on CT from 2014 to 2018 and entrusted it to 31 committee members for implementation of the survey nationwide. This article presents the results of the survey and compares the indicators used in the survey and those in the annual statistical report released by the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA). The number of corneal transplantations completed by the 64 hospitals from 2014 to 2018 was respectively 5377, 6394, 7595, 8270 and 8980, totally 36,616 (22,959 male and 13,657 female).

Interestingly, impairing cue-drug memory reconsolidation is a generally accepted strategy aimed at reducing the intensity of cues that trigger drug-seeking and drug-taking behaviors.

The Critical Role of Cannabinoid Receptor 2 in URB602-Induced Protective Effects Against Renal Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in the Rat.

Renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a major cause of acute kidney injury (AKI) and even induces remote organ damage. Accumulating proofs demonstrates that the endocannabinoid system may provide a promising access for treatment strategy of renal IRI associated AKI. In the current study, using the established renal IRI model of rat, we tested the hypothesis that pretreatment of URB602, 30 min before renal IRI, alleviates kidney injury and relevant distant organ damage via limiting oxidative stress and inflammation.

Co-Delivery of Paclitaxel by a Capsaicin Prodrug Micelle Facilitating for Combination Therapy on Breast Cancer.

Poor anticancer ability, serious adverse reaction, and drug resistance against paclitaxel (PTX) have limited its clinical applications. When a mouse breast carcinoma cell line (4T1) was treated with both PTX and capsaicin (CAP), there was a synergistic anti-proliferative effect demonstrated with a combination index of 0.28.

Glycyrrhetinic acid-conjugated polymeric prodrug micelles co-delivered with doxorubicin as combination therapy treatment for liver cancer.

Significant synergy of doxorubicin (DOX) and glycyrrhizic acid (GA) in inhibiting the proliferation of cancer cells was demonstrated in the human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line, HepG2. A novel polymeric prodrug micellar carrier based on polyethylene glycol-derivatized GA (PEG-Fmoc-GA), was developed for co-delivery of DOX as a combined anti-cancer treatment. The PEG-Fmoc-GA polymeric prodrug micelles achieved a more effective synergistic action on cell proliferation inhibition and apoptosis induction, when co-delivered with DOX, which can be attributed to the dual effect of the cleaved GA and loaded DOX.

Monoacylglycerol Lipase Inactivation by Using URB602 Mitigates Myocardial Damage in a Rat Model of Cardiac Arrest.

Objectives: Monoacylglycerol lipase participates in organ protection by regulating the hydrolysis of the endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol. This study investigated whether blocking monoacylglycerol lipase protects against postresuscitation myocardial injury and improves survival in a rat model of cardiac arrest and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Inhibition of Fatty Acid Amide Hydrolase Improves Depressive-Like Behaviors Independent of Its Peripheral Antinociceptive Effects in a Rat Model of Neuropathic Pain.

Background: Neuropathic pain is often associated with depression. Enhancing endocannabinoids by fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) inhibitors relieves neuropathic pain and stress-induced depressive-like behaviors in animal models. However, it is unclear whether FAAH inhibitor can relieve neuropathic pain-induced depression by or not by its antinociceptive effects.

Lycium barbarum polysaccharide protects diabetic peripheral neuropathy by enhancing autophagy via mTOR/p70S6K inhibition in Streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.

Lycium barbarum polysaccharide (LBP), the major active component of Lycium barbarum, has been found to be effective in the management of some diabetic complications. We evaluated the protective effect of LBP in diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) and explored the possible mechanisms. We found that LBP mildly decreased blood glucose levels and partially rescued allodynia and hyperalgesia in the diabetes mellitus (DM) rats.

Efficacy of methylphenidate for the treatment of mental sequelae after traumatic brain injury.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of methylphenidate for treating mental sequelae after traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Methods: Thirty-six patients with TBI were randomly divided into the intervention group and placebo group. The participants in the intervention group received methylphenidate, while subjects in the placebo group were administered a placebo.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 associated with pheochromocytoma and gastrointestinal stromal tumors: A case report and literature review.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a genetic disorder associated with neurofibromin 1 () gene mutation, which generates an increased risk of variety of tumor types. The current study reports a case involving NF1, pheochromocytoma (PHEO) and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). A 56-year-old man presented with abdominal pain and polypnea.

Modified Miccoli's thyroid surgery for thyroid diseases.

Minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy (MIVAT), originally described by Miccoli, is considered to be the most widely practiced and easily reproducible procedure for selected patients with benign and/or malignant thyroid nodules. Modified techniques based on MIVAT, namely modified Miccoli's thyroid surgery (MMTS), were developed based on MIVAT. This study aimed to evaluate the preliminary results of MMTS compared with those of MIVAT.

A multi-center, cross-sectional study on the burden of infectious keratitis in China.

Objective: To understand the prevalence and demographic characteristics of infectious keratitis and infectious corneal blindness.

Methods: A multi-center, population-based cross-sectional study was conducted from January 1 to August 31, 2010. A total of 191,242 individuals of all age groups from 10 geographically representative provinces were sampled using stratified, multi-stage, random and systematic sampling procedures.

SRF expedites metastasis and modulates the epithelial to mesenchymal transition by regulating miR-199a-5p expression in human gastric cancer.

Dysregulation of transcription factors (TFs) is associated with tumor progression, but little is known about TF expression patterns in the context of gastric cancer (GC) metastasis. Using array-based profile analysis, we found that 22 TFs showed differential activities between GC cell lines with low- and high-metastatic potential. Of this group of TFs, serum response factor (SRF) was significantly upregulated in metastatic GC cells.
