extract (GBE), a therapeutic drug, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects that protect cells from harmful substances. Although GBE has been extensively studied in the prevention and treatment of lung diseases, its mechanism of action in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is unclear. In the present study, cigarette smoke extract (CSE) and cigarette smoke (CS) were used to induce COPD in cell and animal models.

Article Synopsis
  • Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a common psychological condition following a stroke, with significant impacts on patient health, and research into its causes and treatments is still developing.
  • Patients with PSD often show gastrointestinal symptoms, leading to increased interest in how gut microbiota may affect the condition and its management.
  • The review highlights that gut microbiota can influence PSD by regulating neurotransmitters, impacting the endocrine system, affecting energy metabolism, and modulating immune responses.

The imbalance of bone homeostasis has become a major public medical problem amid the background of an aging population, which is closely related to the occurrence of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and fractures. Presently, most drugs used in the clinical treatment of bone homeostasis imbalance are bisphosphonates, calcitonin, estrogen receptor modulators, and biological agents that inhibit bone resorption or parathyroid hormone analogs that promote bone formation. However, there are many adverse reactions.

The purpose of this study was to determine the association between kisspeptin levels and obesity in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or in healthy controls and to explore the correlation between levels of kisspeptin and various endocrine and metabolic indices in each group. From August 2020 to December 2021, the clinical data of 78 patients with polycystic ovary syndrome and 78 healthy individuals were collected. The two groups were further divided into obese and non-obese groups based on a BMI cutoff of 25.

Department of Nephrology, Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shanghai, China.

Podocyte is also called glomerular epithelial cell, which has been considered as the final gatekeeper of glomerular filtration barrier (GFB). As a major contributor to proteinuria, podocyte injury underlies a variety of glomerular diseases and becomes the challenge to patients and their families in general. At present, the therapeutic methods of podocyte injury mainly include angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers, steroid and immunosuppressive medications.

Background: The application value of cerebral perfusion imaging, such as fluorodeoxyglucose-positron-emission computed tomography (FDG-PET), single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), and structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in the prognostic assessment of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) remains unclear. Thus, it was the focus of this meta-analysis, which aimed to provide a theoretical basis for early diagnosis of neurological diseases.

Methods: The Boolean logic retrieval method was used to retrieve related literature, with "cognitive disorder", "cerebral perfusion imaging", "cerebral imaging", "mild cognitive impairment", and "prognostic assessment" as search terms.

Background: To investigate the dynamic changes in high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) findings of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients with different severities in different disease stages.

Methods: We retrospectively collected the clinical and imaging data of 96 patients in Yunnan Province, China, who were diagnosed with COVID-19 between January 22 and March 15, 2020. Based on disease severity, the COVID-19 patients were classified into four types: mild (n=15), moderate (n=59), severe (n=19), and critical (n=3).
