The present study was designed to investigate potential biomarkers of depression and targets of antidepressants from the perspective of hippocampal endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) based on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) proteomics. Firstly, a six-week depression model was established and treated with fluoxetine (FLX). We found antidepressant-FLX could ameliorate depression-like behaviors and cognition in depressed rats caused by chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS).

Background: Late-onset depression (LOD) is defined as primary depression that first manifests after the age of 65. Luteolin (LUT) is a natural flavonoid that has shown promising antidepressant effects and improvement in neurological function in previous studies.

Aims: In this study, we utilized UPLC-MS/MS non-targeted metabolomics techniques, along with molecular docking technology and experimental validation, to explore the mechanism of LUT in treating LOD from a metabolomics perspective.

Background: Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a noninvasive neuromodulation technique. The purpose of our study is to explore the effects of low-frequency (0.5 Hz) and high-frequency (10 Hz) rTMS on neurological function, motor function, and excitability of cortex in Chinese ischemic stroke patients.

Objective: To explore the clinical effect of Pinggan Jiangya decoction combined with penetrating needling at Baihui (GV20) in a period of day from 7 am to 9 am in the treatment of grade 1 and 2 essential hypertension (EH).

Methods: A total of 150 cases of grade 1 and 2 EH patients were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 75 cases in each group. In the control group, Pinggan Jiangya decoction was prescribed for oral administration one dose a day, while in the observation group, on the basis of the treatment as the control group, penetrating needling was exerted at GV20 once daily.

Long non-coding RNA (lncRNAs) can participate in gene expression regulation. LINC01296 is abnormally expressed in different tumors and promotes tumorigenesis and development. However, the role of LINC01296 in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains not entirely clear.

Diabetes mellitus (DM), a familiar disease, is characterized by high blood glucose levels owing to insulin deficiency. Researches have suggested that the incidence rate of diabetes is increasing and it has become an important global epidemic. The type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is featured with pancreatic β-cell loss and lack of insulin release.

Ischemic stroke has been reported to cause significant changes to memory, thinking, and behavior. Intriguingly, recently reported studies have indicated the association of Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) with the acute phase of ischemic stroke. However, the comprehensive underlying mechanism remained unknown.

Objective: To demonstrate that the kallikrein-kinin system (KKS) is upstream of angiogenic signaling pathway, and to determine the role of the kinin B1 and B2 receptors in myocardial angiogenesis induced by exercise training.

Methods: Forty Wistar rats were randomly assigned to an exercise control (EC) group, a B1 receptor antagonist (B1Ant) group, a B2 receptor antagonist (B2Ant) group, and a double receptor antagonist ((B1+ B2)Ant) group. A myocardial infarction model was employed.

Background: Single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology is a powerful tool to study organism from a single cell perspective and explore the heterogeneity between cells. Clustering is a fundamental step in scRNA-seq data analysis and it is the key to understand cell function and constitutes the basis of other advanced analysis. Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF) has been widely used in clustering analysis of transcriptome data and achieved good performance.

Background: As a type of high-frequency electrotherapy, a short-wave can promote the fracture healing process; yet, its underlying therapeutic mechanisms remain unclear.

Purpose: To observe the effect of Short-Wave therapy on mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) homing and relative mechanisms associated with fracture healing.

Materials And Methods: For in vivo study, the effect of Short-Wave therapy to fracture healing was examined in a stabilized femur fracture model of 40 SD rats.

Peripheral nerves are unique in their remarkable elasticity. Schwann cells (SCs), important components of the peripheral nervous system (PNS), are constantly subjected to physiological and mechanical stresses from dynamic stretching and compression forces during movement. So far, it is not clear if SCs sense and respond to mechanical signals.

The search for drugs that can facilitate axonal regeneration and elongation following peripheral nerve injury has been an area of increasing interest in recent years. Epothilone B (EpoB) is an FDA-approved antineoplastic agent, which shows the capacity to induce α-tubulin polymerization and to improve the stability of microtubules. Recently, it has been increasingly recognized that EpoB has a regenerative effect in the central nervous system.

Physiother Theory Pract

October 2021

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Affiliated Zhongshan Hospital of Dalian University, Dalian, Liaoning Province, China.

: The present study aimed to assess proprioception of the knee to evaluate the effectiveness of backward walking for rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.: Patients (n = 52) who underwent ACL reconstruction in a single knee divided randomly into four experimental groups (A-D) and a control group, who all practiced a systematic rehabilitation exercise program. The patients in the experimental groups underwent backward walking using different treadmill angles: group A (0°), B (5°), C (10°) and D (15°).
