Brain Struct Funct

November 2021

Department of Histology and Embryology, China Medical University, Shenyang, 110122, China.

The decreased efficiency of autophagic processing in the central nervous system during aging may be a contributing factor in neurodegenerative diseases. BAG3 (Bcl2 associated athanogene 3) is a major member of the BAG family of co-molecular chaperones that mediate selective macroautophagy. Therefore, we analyzed the expression and distribution of BAG3 in the brain at postnatal 0 day (P0), P15, 1-, 2-, 9-, 12-, and 18 month-old C57BL/6 mice, thus covering almost all ages.

December 2021

School of Nursing and Rehabilitation, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, China.

Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), is an emerging metabolic regulator mediates multiple beneficial effects in the treatment of metabolic disorders and related complications. Recent studies showed that FGF21 acts as an important inhibitor in the onset and progression of cardiovascular complications of diabetes mellitus (DM). Furthermore, evidences discussed so far demonstrate that epigenetic modifications exert a crucial role in the initiation and development of DM-related cardiovascular complications.

This study examined the antitumor effect of methionine enkephalin (MENK) against lung cancer in vivo and in vitro and explored the underlying mechanisms. Changes in the immune status of the tumor microenvironment (TME) in response to MENK administration were examined in mice. MENK significantly inhibited the proliferation of lung cancer cells in vivo and in vitro by regulating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and causing cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase.

Breast cancer is a heterogeneous malignant disease with different prognoses and has been divided into four molecular subtypes. It is believed that molecular events occurring in breast stem/progenitor cells contribute to the carcinogenesis and development of different breast cancer subtypes. However, these subtype-specific molecular characteristics are largely unknown.

Acute urticaria (AU) is the most frequently reported immediate hypersensitivity reaction in skin by administration of iodinated contrast media (ICM). We aimed to establish the pattern and identify the risk factors of AU among inpatients undergoing non-emergent coronary angiography (CAG) with prophylactic corticosteroids in China. Medical records of 19,326 adult inpatients undergoing non-emergent CAG with prophylactic methylprednisolone in 2013-2019 were retrospectively investigated.

The demand to understand the mechanical properties of cells from biomedical, bioengineering, and clinical diagnostic fields has given rise to a variety of research studies. In this context, how to use lab-on-a-chip devices to achieve accurate, high-throughput, and non-invasive acquisition of the mechanical properties of cells has become the focus of many studies. Accordingly, we present a comprehensive review of the development of the measurement of mechanical properties of cells using passive microfluidic mechanisms, including constriction channel-based, fluid-induced, and micropipette aspiration-based mechanisms.

The aim of this study was to investigate how methionine enkephalin (MENK) regulates the biological behavior of lung cancer cells and to further explore its anti-lung cancer mechanisms in vitro and in vivo. The results showed that MENK enhanced the expression of opioid receptor (OGFr) and induced apoptosis of lung cancer cells by activating the Bcl-1/Bax/caspase-3 signaling pathway in vitro and in vivo. However, the regulatory effects of MENK disappeared after blockade of the OGFr.

GPC3 affects the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma and lung squamous cell carcinoma.

BMC Pulm Med

June 2021

Molecular Oncology Department of Cancer Research Institution, The First Hospital of China Medical University, Nanjingbei Street, Heping District, Shenyang, 110001, Liaoning Province, China.

Background: Glypican 3 (GPC3) is a heparin sulphate proteoglycan whose expression is associated with several malignancies. However, its expression in non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is limited and ambiguous. This study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the expression of GPC3 in NSCLC and develop a risk-score model for predicting the prognosis of NSCLC.

Purpose: World Health Organization (WHO) Grades II and III gliomas [also known as low grade gliomas (LGGs)] displayed different malignant behaviors and survival outcomes compared to Grade IV gliomas. This study aimed to identify the prognostic predictive value of a novel cumulative prognostic score [combined with fibrinogen and albumin levels (FA score)], establish and validate a point-based nomogram in LGG patients.

Patients And Methods: A total of 91 patients who underwent total glioma resection at Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University between 2011 and 2013 were enrolled to establish a prognostic nomogram.

Cervical cancer (CC) is a common gynecological malignancy with high morbidity and mortality. Mounting evidence has highlighted that long noncoding RNAs are essential regulators in cancer development. Long intergenic non-protein-coding RNA 997 (LINC00997) was identified for study due to its high expression in CC tissues.

Exercise training promotes physical and bone health, and is the first choice of non-drug strategies that help to improve the prognosis and complications of many chronic diseases. Irisin is a newly discovered peptide hormone that modulates energy metabolism and skeletal muscle mass. Here, we discuss the role of irisin in bone metabolism via exercise-induced mechanical forces regulation.

Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is myocardial necrosis caused by the persistent interruption of myocardial blood supply, which has high incidence rate and high mortality in middle-aged and elderly people in the worldwide. Biomarkers play an important role in the early diagnosis and treatment of AMI. Recently, more and more researches confirmed that circRNA may be a potential diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target for cardiovascular diseases.

Pharmacol Res

July 2021

School of Nursing and Rehabilitation, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong 250012, China. Electronic address:

Fibroblast growth factor 1 (FGF1) has a critical regulatory role in the development of the cardiovascular system (CVS) and is strongly associated with the progression or treatment of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). However, the regulatory mechanisms of FGF1 in CVS and CVDs have not yet been fully elucidated. Therefore, this review article summarized the existing literature reports on the role of FGF1 in CVS under physiological and pathological conditions.

Objective: Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) has a good prognosis and a long survival time, surgery is the common treatment including total thyroidectomy (TT) and unilateral lobectomy (LT), but recent studies showed that TT does not show an advantage over LT for PTMC in preventing cancer recurrence and reducing mortality. Given this, the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has become one of the important factors that physicians must consider when making treatment decisions. The aim of this study was to compare the HRQoL of patients between undergoing TT and LT.
