Objective: Restenosis is a common complication after endovascular treatment of peripheral artery disease. Drug-coated balloon (DCB) treatment has been proven safe and effective in reducing the rate of restenosis for simple and short lesions. However, the clinical results of DCBs for long lesions are still very limited.

Metabolic Reprogramming in the Tumor Microenvironment With Immunocytes and Immune Checkpoints.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), Ipilimumab, Nivolumab, Pembrolizumab and Atezolizumab, have been applied in anti-tumor therapy and demonstrated exciting performance compared to conventional treatments. However, the unsatisfactory response rates, high recurrence and adaptive resistance limit their benefits. Metabolic reprogramming appears to be one of the crucial barriers to immunotherapy.

Hepatitis B virus infection and the risk of gastrointestinal cancers among Chinese population: A prospective cohort study.

Our study aims to explore the relationship between chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and the risk of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers including liver, gastric, gallbladder or extrahepatic bile duct, pancreatic, small intestine, esophageal and colorectal cancer in the Kailuan Cohort study. We prospectively examined the relationship between HBV infection and new-onset GI cancers among 93 402 participants. Cox proportional hazards regression models, subgroup analyses and competing risk analyses were used to evaluate the association between HBV infection and the risk of new-onset GI cancers.

Dysregulation of alternative splicing is associated with the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis.

Background: Although numerous risk loci for ulcerative colitis (UC) have been identified in the human genome, the pathogenesis of UC remains unclear. Recently, multiple transcriptomic analyses have shown that aberrant gene expression in the colon tissues of UC patients is associated with disease progression. A pioneering study also demonstrated that altered post-transcriptional regulation is involved in the progression of UC.

Correlation and agreement between superb micro-vascular imaging and contrast-enhanced ultrasound for assessing radiofrequency ablation treatment of thyroid nodules: a preliminary study.

Background: To evaluate the correlation and agreement between superb micro-vascular imaging (SMI) mode and the contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) mode for the ablative completeness and the volumes of ablation lesions to determine the clinical application value of SMI in follow-up after radiofrequency ablation.

Methods: From April 2020 to June 2020, two radiologists used SMI and CEUS mode to measure the volume of the ablation lesion. We use intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC), scatter plots and Bland-Altman plots to evaluate the correlation and agreement of the two techniques.

Identification of novel biomarkers for intracerebral hemorrhage long noncoding RNA-associated competing endogenous RNA network.

Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. This study aimed to examine the involvement of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), a group of non-coding transcripts, in ICH as potential biomarkers. An expression profile of patients with ICH using four contralateral grey matter controls (GM) and four contralateral white matter controls (WM) was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database.

Effects of Continuous Catheterization on Reducing Postoperative Urinary Tract Infection in Cervical Cancer Patients with Double J Stent Placement.

This study aims at exploring the effect of continuous catheterization on reducing postoperative urinary tract infection in cervical cancer patients with double J tube placement. To be specific, a retrospective analysis was performed on 120 cases of cervical cancer patients who underwent laparoscopic or open radical hysterectomy in Shengjing Hospital of China Medical University from January to December 2019. They were divided into a persistent group ( = 70) and a short-term group ( = 50) according to indwelling catheter time.

GMrepo v2: a curated human gut microbiome database with special focus on disease markers and cross-dataset comparison.

GMrepo (data repository for Gut Microbiota) is a database of curated and consistently annotated human gut metagenomes. Its main purposes are to increase the reusability and accessibility of human gut metagenomic data, and enable cross-project and phenotype comparisons. To achieve these goals, we performed manual curation on the meta-data and organized the datasets in a phenotype-centric manner.

Objective: This research was designed to probe into the effects of fluoxetine combined with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on the psychological emotions and the cognitive and neurological functions of acute post-stroke depression patients.

Methods: This experiment recruited 115 acute post-stroke depression patients who were treated in our hospital from February 2018 to April 2020 as the study cohort. 55 of the patients were treated with fluoxetine, and 60 were treated with fluoxetine combined with rTMS.

Background: Osteosarcoma is a common type of bone tumors and frequently occurs in children and adolescents. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a unique sub-type of self-renewal cancer cells and the stemness of cancer cells are involved in the spread, recurrence, metastasis, and even therapeutic resistance. However, the regulation mechanisms of CSCs in osteosarcoma are poorly understood.

Background: Although hundreds of risk loci for Crohn's disease (CD) have been identified, the underlying pathogenesis of CD remains unclear. Recently, evidence has shown that aberrant gene expression in colon tissues of CD patients is associated with the progression of CD. We reasoned that post-transcriptional regulation, especially alternative splicing (AS), may also play important roles in the pathogenesis of CD.

Analysis of Psychological Trends and Policy Recommendations of Medical Staff in Northern China in the Latter Stages of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Since the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, medical staff have faced greater psychological stress and are prone to psychological problems such as anxiety and depression, as confirmed by several studies. This study further clarifies the psychological status of Chinese medical staff during the stable phase of the pandemic through a cross-sectional investigation in a large population sample in northern China. Subjects: Clinical frontline medical staff from seven hospitals in Liaoning Province were recruited from November 2020 to February 2021.

Associations between hepatitis B virus infection and risk of colorectal Cancer: a population-based prospective study.

Background: Previous studies have observed a close association between hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) as well as extrahepatic cancers. However, research concerning the effect of HBV infection on the risk of colorectal cancer (CRC) is rare and inconsistent. This study aims to determine the relationship between HBV infection and new-onset CRC.

Efficacy and safety of secukinumab in patients with psoriatic arthritis: A meta-analysis of different dosing regimens.

The appropriate dosing regimens of secukinumab for psoriatic arthritis (PsA) are not well defined. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of different dosing regimens of secukinumab in the treatment of PsA. A systematic search was conducted using major electronic databases to identify relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing secukinumab 300 mg versus secukinumab 150 mg in patients with PsA.

Methionine enkephalin (MENK) has an important role in both neuroendocrine and immune systems. MENK was known as an opioid growth factor (OGF) for its growth regulatory characteristics. OGF interacts with the OGF receptor (OGFr) to inhibit DNA synthesis by upregulating p16 and/or p21, which delays the cell cycle transition from G0/G1 to S phase, and inhibits cell proliferation.

Objective: To evaluate the long-term outcomes after drug-coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty dissection in patients with complex femoropopliteal artery disease.

Methods: Two hundred patients with femoropopliteal peripheral artery disease were enrolled in the AcoArt I trial and randomly assigned to either the DCB or percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) group. A total of 86 patients with post-balloon angioplasty dissection were reanalyzed.

Therefore, we analyzed the expression and distribution of BAG3 in the brain at postnatal 0 day (P0), P15, 1-, 2-, 9-, 12-, and 18 month-old C57BL/6 mice, thus covering almost all ages.

The Role of Fibroblast Growth Factor 21 in Diabetic Cardiovascular Complications and Related Epigenetic Mechanisms.

Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21), is an emerging metabolic regulator mediates multiple beneficial effects in the treatment of metabolic disorders and related complications. Recent studies showed that FGF21 acts as an important inhibitor in the onset and progression of cardiovascular complications of diabetes mellitus (DM). Furthermore, evidences discussed so far demonstrate that epigenetic modifications exert a crucial role in the initiation and development of DM-related cardiovascular complications.

A novel mechanism of lung cancer inhibition by methionine enkephalin through remodeling the immune status of the tumor microenvironment.

This study examined the antitumor effect of methionine enkephalin (MENK) against lung cancer in vivo and in vitro and explored the underlying mechanisms. Changes in the immune status of the tumor microenvironment (TME) in response to MENK administration were examined in mice. MENK significantly inhibited the proliferation of lung cancer cells in vivo and in vitro by regulating the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and causing cell cycle arrest at the G0/G1 phase.
