Bone metastasis is frequently seen in patients, particularly those with prostate cancer, showing a higher hazard that deteriorates the quality of life of patients, leading to poor prognosis, which eventually causes significant mortality in prostate cancer patients. The present study investigated the mechanism of prostate cancer with bone metastasis by utilizing prostate specimens from patients. A total of 418 patients were initially enrolled for clinical analysis, including age, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, body mass index (BMI), prostate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and bone MRI, while pathological analysis included grade group and carcinoma of the prostate.

Electronic address:

Immunotherapy has emerged as a highly promising strategy in the realm of cancer treatment, wherein immunogenic cell death (ICD) is considered a potential trigger for anti-tumor immunity by inducing adaptive immunity to dying cell antigens. This process is often accompanied by the exposure, active secretion, or passive release of a large number of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), which activate dendritic cells (DCs) and enhance their antigen-presenting capacity. Subsequently, it promotes the recruitment and activation of cytotoxic T lymphocytes, ultimately leading to tumor growth inhibition.

College of Stomatology, Hospital of Stomatology/Guangxi Key Laboratory of Nanobody Research/Guangxi Nanobody Engineering Research Center/School of Basic Medical Sciences/Affiliated Tumor Hospital, Guangxi Medical University, Nanning, Guangxi 530021, China.

The continuous spread and evolution of severe acute respiratory symptom coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) necessitate the development of convenient and rapid detection methods. In this study, we developed a fluorescence enzyme immunoassay (FEIA) based on a nanobody (Nb)-alkaline phosphatase (ALP) fusion protein for detection of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. The genetically modified anti-SARS-CoV-2 S-RBD Nb, Nb61, gene was fused with the ALP gene sequences via a flexible linker.

Background: Anal fistula is a common anorectal disorder that significantly diminishes the quality of life for affected patients. Accurate preoperative evaluation of the fistula's traits is essential for customizing surgical strategies, improving patient outcomes, and reducing the likelihood of the disease returning. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of multi-phase contrast-enhanced fat-suppressed T1-weighted imaging using three-dimensional gradient echo sequence volumetric interpolated breath-hold examination (CE-FS-T1-3D-VIBE) and fat-suppressed T2-weighted imaging combined with diffusion-weighted imaging (FS-T2WI-DWI) sequence in delineating the characteristics of anal fistulas.

Background: Ultrasound-guided nerve block can be used for perioperative analgesia and can potentially improve the course of recovery. Although iliohypogastric-ilioinguinal nerve block has been successfully used for inguinal hernia surgery, the poor blocking effect of intraoperative traction reflex remains a major drawback of this technique. The main objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of single-point ultrasound-guided iliohypogastric-ilioinguinal-genitofemoral nerve (GFN) blockage for open anterior inguinal hernia repair in older adults.

Porphyrins-based nanoscale metal-organic frameworks (nMOFs) has been widely utilized to kills tumor cells by generating cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, porphyrin based nMOFs (por-nMOFs) still face challenges such as rapid immune clearance and weak tumor targeting. Researchers have discovered that using a top-down biomimetic strategy, where nMOFs are coated with cell membranes, can promote long blood circulation, evade the reticuloendothelial system, and improve cancer cell targeting, thereby significantly enhancing the photodynamic therapy (PDT) effect of nMOFs.

Enhanced Cross-stage-attention U-Net for esophageal target volume segmentation.

BMC Med Imaging

December 2024

Laboratory of Image Science and Technology, Key Laboratory of New Generation Artificial Intelligence Technology and Its Interdisciplinary Applications, Ministry of Education, Southeast University, Sipailou 2, Nanjing, P.R. China.

Purpose: The segmentation of target volume and organs at risk (OAR) was a significant part of radiotherapy. Specifically, determining the location and scale of the esophagus in simulated computed tomography images was difficult and time-consuming primarily due to its complex structure and low contrast with the surrounding tissues. In this study, an Enhanced Cross-stage-attention U-Net was proposed to solve the segmentation problem for the esophageal gross tumor volume (GTV) and clinical tumor volume (CTV) in CT images.

Guangxi Key Laboratory of Animal Reproduction, Breeding and Disease Control, College of Animal Science and Technology, Guangxi University, 75 Xiuling Road, Nanning, 530005, China.

The establishment and maintenance of spermatogenesis is a complex process involving a vast of regulatory pathways. There is growing evidence revealing that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNA) play important roles in regulating testicular development and spermatogenesis in a stage-specific way. However, our understanding of how lncRNA regulates testicular development and spermatogenesis in black goats is quite limited.

  • - The study aimed to examine the clinical and immune system characteristics of patients with anti-synthetase syndrome (ASS) who also have rheumatoid arthritis (RA) compared to those without RA.
  • - Out of 104 ASS patients with arthritis, 23.1% were diagnosed with RA and displayed notable differences such as higher rates of rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease, more tender and swollen joints, and increased bone erosion compared to the non-RA group.
  • - The overlap group (ASS with RA) also had significantly altered immune cell profiles, including decreased regulatory T cells and B cells, as well as higher levels of certain inflammatory markers, leading to a lower rate of complete clinical response.
