Introduction: Drug shortages (DSs) have become a well-known challenge in health care, and serious patient safety consequences, such as medication errors and adverse patient outcomes are reported. To meet these challenges, a national task force was established to manage and minimize the impact of critical DSs' on hospitals in Denmark.

Objective: To evaluate the establishment of the National Task Force for Critical Drug Shortages (NTF) in terms of quality, patient safety, and resources from different actor perspectives related to critical DS management in Danish hospitals.

Aim: This national retrospective Danish study described the characteristics of children diagnosed with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, an inherited X-linked recessive disorder that often affects children of Middle Eastern descent.

Methods: We studied children born between 1 January 2000 and 31 December 2017 and diagnosed with G6PD deficiency. They were identified from the Danish National Hospital Discharge Register and the Danish Database of Extreme Neonatal Hyperbilirubinaemia.
