Purpose: The retention force of a realistic clasp is influenced by multiple, interrelated factors, which complicates the identification of the fundamental relationship between clasp geometry and retention force. While realistic clasps exhibit various shapes, they share basic geometric elements such as length, diameter, and curvature. Simpler geometries are often more conducive to identifying the underlying issues.

Recently, non-invasive hemoglobin measurement (SpHb) using Pulse CO-Oximeter Rad-67™ Spot-check (Rad-67) has been validated although anemia diagnosis typically relies on blood hemoglobin concentration measurement. In this large-scale survey of Japanese children aged 1-5 years, we evaluated SpHb distribution to understand the prevalence of suspected anemia, and further examined the relationship between SpHb and background factors. Children were recruited from large retail stores in Japan between November 2022 and August 2023.

Background: Erythroid cells contribute to embryonic organ development and adult tissue repair supplying oxygen to tissues. During mouse development, the primitive erythroid cells produced in the extraembryonic blood islands of the yolk sac begin to circulate as immature and nucleated erythroblasts with the onset of cardiac contractions around embryonic day 9.5 (E9.

Orbital defects can result from a myriad of underlying diseases and injuries. Treatment of malignant neoplasms and maxillofacial trauma are common reasons for orbital exenteration. Recently, a growing number of cases of orbital defects have been reported due to mucormycosis in patients with COVID-19.

The objective of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using a cost-effective desktop three-dimensional (3D) fused deposition modeling (FDM) printer to fabricate dental casts to overcome the problems of conventional dental plaster casts, such as fragility and low portability. First, a 3D computer-aided design (CAD) model of the dental cast was prepared in the Standard Triangle Language (STL) format. Twelve 3D models were fabricated using a desktop FDM 3D printer under different 3D printing parameters/conditions, including shape, placement direction, and infill percentage.

Enamel microcracks are often apparent in the teeth of elderly individuals. However, accurate clinical diagnosis of enamel microcracks is very difficult. The purpose of this study was to examine the utility of inspections for enamel microcracks using a near-infrared light transillumination device with fluorescence staining.

Introduction: Cigarette smoking is a significant risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVDs). Mildly elevated total serum bilirubin (TSB) levels can exert anti-atherosclerotic effects and may regulate inflammation. We explore the relationship between TSB levels, smoking, and inflammation.

: The objective of this study was to compare the trueness and precision of three intraoral scanners (IOSs) for the digitization of dentate and edentulous maxillectomy and mandibulectomy defects in artificial models. Four representative defect models-a dentate and an edentulous maxillectomy model and a dentate and an edentulous mandibulectomy model-were used for digital scanning. After a reference scan of each model, they were scanned with three IOSs: CEREC AC Omnicam, True Definition, and cara TRIOS 3.

Aim: Diabetes is a significant risk factor that exacerbates the pathological progression of periodontal disease. In recent years, attention has focused on the effect of regulatory T cells (Tregs), which play a central role in immune tolerance, on inflammatory processes in periodontal tissue, suggesting a link with diabetes-associated periodontitis. In this study, we examined the dynamics of Tregs in periodontal tissue of mice with streptozotocin (STZ)-induced hyperglycemia.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationships between reference planes and oral functions on the habitual and non-habitual chewing sides.
Materials And Methods: Thirty-four subjects with no abnormalities in the maxillofacial region and oral functions were enrolled in this study. Relationships between angles between the reference plane (Frankfort horizontal plane, Camper's plane, and occlusal plane) and masticatory performance, occlusal force, and occlusal contact area by chewing side were examined.

Background/aim: The therapeutic efficacy of the paclitaxel (PTX) + cetuximab (Cmab) combination regimen was investigated in patients with recurrence or metastasis after superselective intraarterial chemoradiotherapy (SSIACRT) for oral cancer, and the safety was retrospectively examined.
Patients And Methods: All enrolled patients with advanced oral cancer or who had refused surgery over 10 years from December 2012 to December 2022 underwent SSIACRT for 6 to 9 weeks [cisplatin (CDDP): total 160-630 mg/m and radiotherapy: total 50-70 Gy]. Nine cases (tongue cancer, maxillary gingival cancer, and mandibular gingival cancer; three cases each) were subjected to PTX + Cmab therapy.

Background: Injectable platelet-rich fibrin (iPRF), a liquid form of PRF that is prepared from peripheral blood without anticoagulants, promotes tissue wound healing and regeneration. The present study focused on iPRF-like bone marrow aspirate concentrate (iBMAC) prepared without anticoagulant, and the regenerative potential of iPRF and iBMAC was compared in vitro.
Methods: iPRF and iBMAC were prepared from the same New Zealand white rabbits.

3D printing is increasingly used in dentistry, with biocompatible resins playing a key role. This study compared the radioprotective properties of a commonly used 3D-printed resin (Formlabs surgical guide resin) with traditional heat-cured resin and examined the relationship between material thickness and radiation attenuation. The specimens consisted of 3D-printed and heat-cured resin specimens, each measuring 45 × 45 mm, with five different thicknesses (6, 8, 10, 12, and 14 mm), totaling 100 samples.

(1) Background: Diet is significant for nutritional intake and serves as an essential element for improving quality of life (QOL). Poor dietary management skills increase the risk of onset or progression of lifestyle-related diseases, and, in particular, are a factor in reduced QOL during old age. This study aimed to clarify the physical and social background factors impeding dietary self-management.

Objectives: This study aimed to clarify the effect of metal elements in the coloring liquids used in the infiltration method on the physical properties of zirconia.
Methods: Two types of zirconia discs 5Y-PSZ (SHOFU Disc ZR Lucent FA, SHOFU, Kyoto, Japan) were used: with monolayer shades from W2 to W3 (Pearl White) and 5Y-PSZ with multilayer shades from A3 to A4 (L). Five kinds of coloring liquid were used to infiltrate into semi-sintered Pearl White (T-glass [CT], A4 [CA], White-Opaque [CW], Gingiva 1 [CG], and Blue X [CB]).
