The first Polish recommendations regarding the management of patients with COVID-19 were published by the Polish Society of Epidemiologists and Infectiologists (PTEiLChZ) on March 31, 2020, and the last annex was dated November 12, 2021. The ongoing state of pandemic, the emergence of new variants of the virus, and the availability of new drugs necessitate their updating. Changes introduced in the current version of recommendations for the management of COVID-19 comprised the possibility of using remedesivir in an outpatient setting, previously reserved for inpatient treatment, as well as other antiviral drugs-molnupiravir and nirmatrelvir / ritonavir.

Background: Detailed morphometric data concentrating on the development of primary ossification centres in human fetuses is critical for the early detection of developmental defects. Thus, an understanding of the growth and development of the parietal bone is crucial in assessing both the normal and pathological development of the calvaria.
Materials And Methods: The size of the parietal primary ossification centre in 37 spontaneously aborted human fetuses of both sexes (16 males and 21 females) aged 18-30 weeks was studied by means of computed tomography, digital-image analysis and statistics.

Background: The present study aimed to calculate the basal metabolic rate (BMR) with the Mifflin equation based on the expected body mass for normal body mass index (BMI) values in obese patients treated in spa conditions.
Methods: Patients with morbid obesity (BMI > 40 kg m ) and non-obese controls (BMI < 30 kg m ) were recruited. In total, 104 patients with morbid obesity (mean BMI ± standard deviation, 46.

Dural sinus thrombosis is one of the complications after posterior fossa surgery. However, that topic is not described well with regard to vestibular schwannoma surgery using the unique suboccipital retrosigmoid approach. We analyzed retrospectively medical records and radiological investigations of 116 patients.

Background: Computed tomography (CT)-based quantitative analysis of primary ossification centres in the cranium has not been carried out to date due to the limited availability of the foetal human material. Detailed morphometric data about the development of primary ossification centres in human foetuses may be useful in the early detection of developmental defects. Understanding the growth and development of the occipital bone is crucial in assessing the normal and pathological development of the cranial base, and the cranium as a whole.

Background: Frontal sinuses within the frontal bone can be a potential obstacle in neurosurgical approach in this region. Their unintended opening during craniotomy is not beneficial due to the risk of brain infections by bacteria inhabiting the sinus mucosa. Therefore, such opening should be avoided whenever the surgical procedure does not involve the sinus itself.

Self-destructive and aggressive behaviors can have a significant impact on the quality of life of affected individuals and their carrers. While deep brain stimulation (DBS) has been applied to the treatment of self-destructive and aggressive behaviors in isolated cases, clinical data on this treatment modality are still lacking. We therefore assessed responses to treatment with bilateral DBS of the nucleus accumbens in six patients with severe self-destructive and aggressive behaviors.

The aim of this single-center observational study was to analyze the applicability of various imaging studies to the diagnosis and further evaluation of patients with chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO). The analysis included the data of 10 patients with CRMO treated between 2016 and 2021. The mean ages of the patients at the first manifestation of CRMO and ultimate diagnosis were 10 years and 7 months and 11 years and 10 months, respectively.

Background: Fenestrations of cerebral arteries are congenital variants that develop when primitive vessels fuse incompletely. An association between the incidence of aneurysm and a fenestrated artery has been noted in the radiological literature. However, technical limitations of radiological studies may hamper visualization of small fenestrations and aneurysms.

CT-based quantitative analysis of any ossification center in the cranium has not previously been carried out due to the limited availability of human fetal material. Detailed morphometric data on the development of ossification centers in the human fetus may be useful in the early detection of congenital defects. Ossification disorders in the cranium are associated with either a delayed development of ossification centers or their mineralization.

Background: Greying of the hair is an obvious sign of human aging. In addition to age, sex- and ancestry-specific patterns of hair greying are also observed and the progression of greying may be affected by environmental factors. However, little is known about the genetic control of this process.

There are serious theoretical problems with the free-energy principle model, which are shown in the current article. We discuss the proposed model's inability to account for culturally emergent normativities, and point out the foundational issues that we claim this inability stems from.

Introduction: The current trend in oncological surgery is to minimize its degree of invasiveness while maintaining a satisfactory survival rate. Surgical treatments within the large intestine are applied through traditional open surgery (OS) or laparoscopic surgery (LS).
Aim: The purpose of this nonrandomized, prospective, single-centered clinical examination was to compare motility within the spine joints and evaluate abdominal muscle strength of patients who underwent LS or OS for colorectal cancer.

This study aimed to examine age-specific reference intervals and growth dynamics of the best fit for liver dimensions on the diaphragmatic surface of the fetal liver. The research material consisted of 69 human fetuses of both sexes (32♂, 37♀) aged 18-30 weeks. Using methods of anatomical dissection, digital image analysis and statistics, a total of 10 measurements and 2 calculations were performed.

Considering this, ILC research is still ongoing to better understand the biology of these cells and their roles in the human body. ILCs are a multifunctional group of immune cells, making it important for the medical community to be familiar with the latest research about the ILC families and their functions in selected disease states, such as cancer formation, metabolic disorders and inflammation.

Purposes: Skeletodysplasiae and hereditary dysostoses constitute a group of over 350 disorders of the skeletal system. Knowledge about development of the pubic primary ossification center may be useful in both determining the fetal stage and maturity, and for detecting congenital disorders. The present study was performed to quantitatively examine the pubic primary ossification center with respect to its linear, planar, and volumetric parameters.

Introduction Warthin's tumor is a non-malignant tumor that occurs in major salivary glands. Diagnostics include an interview and physical examination as well as additional tests - ultrasonography, magnetic resonance tomography, fine-needle aspiration biopsy. Surgical tumor resection remains the method of treatment, the scope of which includes techniques from extracapsular tumor resection to a full range of parotidectomy.
