We have quantum chemically investigated the catalytic effect of hydrogen bonding organocatalysts, (H2N)2C=X (X = O, S, Se, NH, PH, AsH, CH2, SiH2 GeH2), such as urea, on the classic Diels-Alder reaction. All studied hydrogen bond donor catalysts enhance the Diels-Alder reaction between acrolein and 1,3-butadiene to a similar extent. Our activation strain and Kohn-Sham molecular orbital analyses show that these organocatalysts lower the reaction barrier by polarizing the p-orbitals away from the reactive carbon atoms of acrolein, reducing the Pauli repulsion between the reactants.

Objectives: This study evaluates a staged selective hybrid approach for acute type A aortic dissection. The approach involves a zone 2 aortic arch replacement with debranching of the brachiocephalic trunk and left common carotid artery to create a landing zone for thoracic endovascular aortic repair. Heterozygous variants in the Early B cell factor 3 (EBF3) have been reported in individuals presenting with hypotonia, ataxia and delayed development syndrome (HADDS) (MIM#617330). However, individuals with pathogenic variants in EBF3 show phenotypic heterogeneity and very few variants in the C-terminal domain have been described. Antibodies in human milk protect infants against infections, but currently no assay is described that is able to simultaneously measure all 9 antibody isotypes and subclasses immunoglobulins in human fluids, such as human milk. Our cohort "Protecting against Respiratory tract Infections through human Milk Analysis" (PRIMA) is focused on the relation between the occurrence of respiratory infections during the first year of life and concentration of maternal antibodies in breastfeeding. We developed and successfully validated a multiplex assay that is able to measure all nine antibody isotypes and subclasses in human plasma and milk (regardeless of the pathogen specificity), using a small sample volume.

Electrochemical methodologies offer a transformative approach to sustainable chemical synthesis by enabling precise, energy-efficient transformations. Here, we report the selective electrochemical N-formylation of methylamine using methanol as both reagent and solvent, facilitated by a simple glassy carbon electrode. Under optimized conditions, we achieve a faradaic efficiency (FE) of 34% for methylformamide synthesis in a neutral NaClO electrolyte.

Can narcissism help foster resiliency against adversity? In this study, we used Turkish panel data, to examine whether narcissism can buffer the negative impact of personal loss on change in subjective well-being in the wake of the Türkiye-Syria earthquakes of 2023. Results show that the adaptation to personal loss was stronger for individuals high on narcissism. At the same time, we found no evidence that individuals high on Machiavellianism or psychopathy - other Dark Triad traits - were better able to adapt to personal loss.
