Introduction: In Europe, disparities exist in having access to optimal neonatal care. Background: Limited longitudinal data exist on chronic kidney disease (CKD) in African populations undergoing epidemiological transitions. We investigated incidence, long-term predictors and progression of CKD among Ghanaians residing in Ghana and Ghanaian migrants in the Netherlands (Amsterdam).

Methods And Findings: We analysed data from 2183 participants in the transcontinental population-based prospective Research on Obesity and Diabetes among African Migrants cohort, followed for approximately 7 years.

Background: To provide recommendations on risk mitigation, diagnosis and treatment of infectious complications associated with the practice of regional anesthesia, acute and chronic pain management.

Methods: Following board approval, in 2020 the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA Pain Medicine) commissioned evidence-based guidelines for best practices for infection control. More than 80 research questions were developed and literature searches undertaken by assigned working groups comprising four to five members.

Efficacy of current treatment options for cervical cancer require improvement. Previous studies have shown the enhancing effects of the addition of PARP1-inhibitors to chemoradiotherapy and thermoradiotherapy. The aim of our present study was to test efficacy of different combinations of treatment modalities radiotherapy, cisplatin, hyperthermia and PARP1-inhibitors using tumor models, treated patient samples and tumor models.

Respiratory viruses affecting health and performance in equine athletes.

Some respiratory viruses can affect equine athletes, with acute respiratory clinical signs leading to a reduced ability to perform. The direct association between equine respiratory viruses and athletic performance is unclear in subclinically affected horses. This narrative review summarises the current evidence on respiratory viruses most commonly detected in performing horses, including equine herpesviruses, equine influenza virus, equine rhinitis viruses, equine arteritis virus, and equine adenovirus 1.

Prenatal ambient temperature exposure and cord blood and placental mitochondrial DNA content: Insights from the ENVIRONAGE birth cohort study.

Background: Mitochondrial DNA content (mtDNAc) at birth is a sensitive biomarker to environmental exposures that may play an important role in later life health. We investigated sensitive time windows for the association between prenatal ambient temperature exposure and newborn mtDNAc.

Methods: In the ENVIRONAGE birth cohort (Belgium), we measured cord blood and placental mtDNAc in 911 participants using a quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction.

Background: Reliable language mappings require sufficient language skills. This study evaluated whether linguistic task properties impact feasibility and reliability of navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (nTMS)-based language mappings in aphasic glioma patients.

Methods: The effect of linguistic complexity on naming accuracy during baseline testing without stimulation and on the number of errors during nTMS was evaluated for 16 moderately and 4 severely expressive aphasic patients.

Immune checkpoint blockers (ICBs) have revolutionized the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Treatment duration with ICBs is often arbitrary across stages, ranging from a fixed time point to until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity.

Stillbirth rates have stalled or increased in some European countries during the last decade. We investigate to what extent time-trends and between-country differences in stillbirth rates are explained by the changing prevalence of advanced maternal age and teenage pregnancies or multiple births. We analysed data on stillbirths and live births by maternal age and multiplicity from 2010 to 2021 in 25 European countries using Kitagawa decomposition to separate rate differences into compositional and rate components.

Association of Lambert-Eaton Myasthenic Syndrome and First Episode Psychosis: A Case Report.

Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome (LEMS) is an autoimmune neuromuscular junction disorder characterized by proximal weakness, autonomic dysfunction, and areflexia associated with antibodies against voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs). Psychotic symptoms can occur in many autoimmune neurological disorders but they have rarely been observed in myasthenic syndromes. We report the case of a 21-year-old woman with primary autoimmune LEMS due to anti-VGCC antibodies subtype P/Q, who developed psychotic symptoms 3 years after the onset of motor symptoms.
