Background: Aims conventional bowel preparation restricts dietary intake up to 72 h prior to colonoscopy. Bowel preparation process is often perceived as unpleasant leading to poor compliance and subsequent poor bowel preparation. The aim of this trial is to compare the efficacy of low-residue semi-elemental enteral formula (LREF) incorporated diet versus the standard diet in polyethylene glycol (PEG)-based bowel preparation in the aim of creating a more tolerable bowel preparation regimen without compromising bowel cleanliness.

Objective: We aimed to examine the associations of telepsychiatry consultations with the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) telehealth policy changes (pandemic-related expansion and subsequent consolidation).

Methods: We performed a time series analysis of MBS telepsychiatry usage (January 2016-December 2023) using state/territory-level Medicare panel data. Linear regression analyses with panel-corrected standard error and autocorrelation were performed for telepsychiatry consultations (overall and age and sex subgroups).

This study explores the impact of music therapy on emotional resilience, well-being, and employability. Through an 8-week music therapy intervention involving 256 participants, the results demonstrated that music therapy significantly enhanced participants' emotional resilience, which in turn improved their well-being and employability. A significant positive correlation was found between emotional resilience, well-being, and employability, with well-being mediating the relationship between emotional resilience and employability.

Introduction: Poly(methyl vinyl ether co-maleic acid) (PMVE/MA) hydrogel microneedles (HMN) are investigated for transdermal delivery of macromolecular drugs owing to their biocompatibility and super-swelling properties. However, the drug delivery efficacy reduces with increasing molecular weight due to the entrapment within the HMN matrices. Furthermore, integrating external drug reservoirs extends the drug diffusion path and reduces the efficiency of drug permeation.

Background: Liver hemangiomas (HGs) are characterized by cavernous venous spaces delineated by a lining of vascular endothelial cells and interspersed with connective tissue septa. Typically, a liver HG has higher apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and T2 values than those of hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs) and liver metastases, and lower ADC and T2 values than those of liver simple cysts. However, a portion of HGs shows ADC and T2 overlapping with those of HCC, liver metastasis, and simple cyst.

In assessing performance-based language assessment, the use of a valid and reliable scoring rubric is crucial to minimize measurement errors that become threats in the rating process. The validation process of rubrics which previously was based on qualitative data is not satisfying since empirical evidence is not present. Thus, drawing on the Assessment Use Argument (AUA) Validation Framework, this study aims to search for evidence to prove a claim which is Primary Trait Writing (PTW) rubrics for students self assessment activities are relevant to the construct being measured.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzes mean glandular dose (MGD) in mammography screening for women aged 40-69 in Dubai, involving 2599 participants.
  • It reports average MGD values of 0.96 mGy for mediolateral oblique (MLO) views and 0.81 mGy for craniocaudal (CC) views, with varying correlations between age, breast thickness, and radiation doses.
  • Findings suggest that lower MGD reduces radiation risk, while higher MGD in MLO views may indicate better image quality; thus, monitoring MGD is crucial for patient safety and screening effectiveness.

Enhancing shielding efficiency of ordinary and barite concrete in radiation shielding utilizations.

Sci Rep

October 2024

Department of Biomedical Imaging, Advanced Medical and Dental Institute, Universiti Sains Malaysia, 13200, Kepala Batas, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia.

Concrete has been widely utilized as a radiation shielding material due to its properties and structural integrity. This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of ordinary concrete versus barite concrete as radiation shielding materials, focusing on the physical aspects and changes in crystal size lattice parameters after neutron irradiation. Specifically, the research investigates the shielding effectiveness of these materials across different grades (M15, M25, M35, and M45) against gamma-ray sources Cobalt-60 and Caesium-137.

Medicare-reimbursed psychiatric consultations before and after telehealth expansion in Australia: a time series study.

Aust Health Rev

December 2024

Academic Unit of Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine, The Australian National University School of Medicine and Psychology, Canberra, ACT, Australia; and Consortium of Australian-Academic Psychiatrists for Independent Policy Research and Analysis, Canberra, ACT, Australia.

Objective Telepsychiatry consultations grew rapidly with increased total consultations and reduced face-to-face consultations following the pandemic-triggered expansion of Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) telehealth items. It was unclear how much telehealth expansion independently impacted overall and face-to-face consultation trends after accounting for lockdown severity. Methods We extracted monthly MBS Item Reports for psychiatric consultations (January 2012-December 2023).

Circulating miRNAs and Machine Learning for Lateralizing Primary Aldosteronism.

Hypertension

December 2024

Department of Endocrinology (B.V., G.N., N.S., B.K.S., P.I.), Faculty of Medicine, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary.

Background: Distinguishing between unilateral and bilateral primary aldosteronism, a major cause of secondary hypertension, is crucial due to different treatment approaches. While adrenal venous sampling is the gold standard, its invasiveness, limited availability, and often difficult interpretation pose challenges. This study explores the utility of circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) and machine learning in distinguishing between unilateral and bilateral forms of primary aldosteronism.
