Objective: To construct a small interfering RNA (siRNA) eukaryotic expression vector specific for methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene and to observe its silencing effect on MTHFR gene.

Methods: The expression vectors of PsiRNA-MTHFR were constructed by gene recombination and then were nucleofected into the primary cultured MEPM cell. At 48 h and 5 d after nucleofection, the expression of MTHFR in the levels of mRNA and protein was detected by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (Real-Time PCR) and Western blot.

Many retinal degeneration diseases, such as retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration, the main pathologic character of such retinal degeneration diseases is apoptosis of retinal photoreceptor cells. Recently, It is still short of effective treatment. Evidence from epidemiological studies and from experiments indicates that excessive light exposure may promote retinal degeneration, in which photoreceptor death by apoptosis leads to loss of vision.

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, The Medical School Hospital of Qingdao University, Qingdao, People's Republic of China.

Aspiration of a tooth in maxillofacial injuries is a known complication necessitating prompt recognition and early treatment to minimize potentially serious and, sometimes, even fatal consequences. Here, we report a rare and unusual case in its presentation, the patient having aspirated 2 permanent teeth after maxillofacial, cervical vertebrae, and thoracic region crush injuries due to a motor vehicle accident. The diagnosis of teeth aspiration was delayed until 2 weeks after the event.

Objective: To evaluate the application value of MRI fast SPGR single slice scan in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome when comparing the images between fast SPGR single slice scan and continuous dynamic scan.

Methods: Eighteen patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome were examined by fast SPGR single slice scan and continuous dynamic scan in turn. Fast SPGR single slice scans were conducted when the phases of apnea, inspiration and expiration appeared on the respiratory wave of the subjects.

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and other assisted reproductive technologies (ART) are effective treatments for infertility and are widely used at infertility clinics. Although ICSI is generally considered safe, some studies have suggested an excess occurrence of major birth defects resulting from the procedure. Here, we present a rare case of a boy with multiple orofacial malformations who was conceived by ICSI.

Neuroendocrine differentiation in prostatic carcinomas generally confers a more aggressive clinical behavior and less favorable prognosis than usual prostatic carcinomas. In this article, we report a case of a 65-year-old man with prostatic carcinoma who had a metastasis of the submandibular area. His serum prostate-specific antigen level was reduced to below the normal range and carcinoembryonic antigen was increased.
