Background: The loss of laryngeal function affects breathing, swallowing, and voice, thus severely compromises quality of life. Laryngeal transplantation has long been suggested as a solution for selected highly affected patients with complete laryngeal function loss.
Objective: To obtain insights regarding the advantages, weaknesses, and limitations of this procedure and facilitate future advances, we collected uniform data from all known laryngeal transplants reported internationally.

Purpose: Breast lesions that remain elusive in traditional imaging techniques such as ultrasound and mammography pose a diagnostic challenge. In such cases, magnetic resonance (MR)-guided breast biopsy emerges as a crucial tool for accurate histopathological verification. This article presents a comparative study conducted at 2 centres, exploring the results of MR-guided breast biopsies performed by experienced radiologists, based on inside and external referrals.

The accurate diagnosis of brain tumour is very important in modern neuro-oncology medicine. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) is supposed to be a promising tool for detecting cancerous lesions. However, the interpretation of MRS data is complicated by the fact that not all cancerous lesions exhibit elevated choline (Cho) levels.

Background: A genetic polymorphism, rs2204985, has been reported to be associated with the diversity of T-cell antigen receptor repertoire and TREC levels, reflecting the function of the thymus. As the thymus function can be assumed to be an important factor regulating the outcome of stem cell transplantation (SCT), it was of great interest that rs2204985 showed a genetic association to disease-free and overall survival in a German SCT donor cohort. Tools to predict the outcome of SCT more accurately would help in risk assessment and patient safety.

Spinal involvement by chronic non-bacterial osteomyelitis (CNO) has been increasingly reported in recent years, often being presented as a diagnostic dilemma requiring differential diagnosis with bacterial spondylodiscitis and/or neoplasia. This study was aimed at identifying the imaging features of CNO facilitating its differentiation from other spinal diseases. Two radiologists assessed the imaging studies of 45 patients (16 male and 29 female, aged from 6 to 75 years, 15 children) with CNO collected from 5 referential centers.

Tissue sodium concentration can be used as a sensitive marker of tissue viability in stroke or radiation therapy monitoring.
Material And Methods: Thirty-seven volunteers were scanned with a Na protocol in the span of one year; within this group, 29 studies were of acceptable quality.

Background: PRECONNECT was an international, phase IIIb trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of trifluridine/tipiracil (FTD/TPI) for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC).
Methods: Patients with mCRC received FTD/TPI 35 mg/m twice-daily on days 1-5 and 8-12 of each 28-day cycle for third- or later-line treatment.
Primary Endpoint: safety and time to deterioration of Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status [ECOG PS] to ≥2).

Introduction: The relevance of diabetes mellitus (DM) to the efficacy of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) has been the subject of few studies and with only inconclusive results.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of DM and admission hyperglycaemia on the efficacy and safety of MT in stroke patients.
Material And Methods: This retrospective study analysis focused on the relevance of admission hyperglyacemia and DM to the functional status of patients treated with MT at the Upper Silesian Medical Centre of the Silesian Medical University in Katowice, Poland.

Background: The presence of TP53 mutations is associated with an unfavorable outcome in patients allografted for acute myeloid leukemia (AML), leading some to question the benefit of an allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) for this patient group, although this has not been studied in a large cohort.
Methods: A total of 780 patients with AML in first complete remission, with either intermediate- or adverse-risk cytogenetics, whose TP53 mutation status was reported, were included in this study from the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation.
Results: Two-year overall survival (OS) was impaired in patients (n = 179) with evidence of a TP53 mutation at diagnosis (35.

Confocal laser endomicroscopy (CLE) is an advanced endoscopic imaging technology that provides a magnified, cellular level view of gastrointestinal epithelia. In conjunction with topical or intravenous fluorescent dyes, CLE allows for an "optical biopsy" for real-time diagnosis. Two different CLE system have been used in clinical endoscopy, probe-based CLE (pCLE) and endoscope-based CLE (eCLE).

In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning method for joint classification and segmentation of breast masses based on radio-frequency (RF) ultrasound (US) data. In comparison to commonly used classification and segmentation techniques, utilizing B-mode US images, we train the network with RF data (data before envelope detection and dynamic compression), which are considered to include more information on tissue's physical properties than standard B-mode US images. Our multi-task network, based on the Y-Net architecture, can effectively process large matrices of RF data by mixing 1D and 2D convolutional filters.

Background: Multiple investigations are available to aid the diagnosis and monitoring of disease activity in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Fecal calprotectin (FC) is an established surrogate for intestinal inflammatory activity. Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) including thiopurine metabolites, anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) levels and antidrug antibody measurements are a step toward personalized medicine in IBD, but face access barriers.

Fujifilm has developed a novel ELUXEO 7000 endoscope system that employs light-emitting diodes (LEDs) at four different wavelengths as light sources that enable blue light imaging (BLI), linked color imaging (LCI), and high-definition white-light endoscopy (HD-WLE). The aim of this study was to address the diagnostic accuracy of real-time polyp characterization using BLI, LCI and HD-WLE (ELUXEO 7000 endoscopy system). This is a prespecified post-hoc analysis of a prospective study in which 22 experienced endoscopists (> 2,000 colonoscopies) from eight international centers participated.

Salvage autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT) constitutes a therapeutic option for a group of well-selected patients with relapsed multiple myeloma (MM). However, if an insufficient number of stem cells were harvested and stored before the first auto-HSCT, stem cells need to be remobilized. Patients diagnosed with MM who following relapse after auto-HSCT, had remobilization and afterward, auto-HSCT with remobilized cells were included in this retrospective analysis.

We examined a series of structurally related glass-forming liquids in which a phenothiazine-based tricyclic core (PTZ) was modified by attaching n-alkyl chains of different lengths (n = 4, 8, 10). We systematically disentangled the impact of chemical structure modification on the intermolecular organization and molecular dynamics probed by broadband dielectric spectroscopy (BDS). X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns evidenced that all PTZ-derivatives are not 'ordinary' liquids and form nanoscale clusters.

Epidemiological investigations show that mosaic loss of chromosome Y (LOY) in leukocytes is associated with earlier mortality and morbidity from many diseases in men. LOY is the most common acquired mutation and is associated with aberrant clonal expansion of cells, yet it remains unclear whether this mosaicism exerts a direct physiological effect. We studied DNA and RNA from leukocytes in sorted- and single-cells in vivo and in vitro.
