Background: The PALLAS trial investigated the addition of palbociclib to standard adjuvant endocrine therapy to reduce breast cancer recurrence. This pre-specified analysis was conducted to determine whether adjuvant palbociclib benefited patients diagnosed with lower risk stage IIA disease compared to those with higher stage disease.
Methods: PALLAS was an international, multicenter, randomized, open-label, phase III trial, representing a public-private partnership between Pfizer, the Austrian Breast Cancer Study Group, and the U.

Background: Currently, it remains unknown whether there is an association between body mass index (BMI) and complications during screening colonoscopy; hence, it remains unclear whether BMI should be considered a risk factor in pre-procedural assessments. The aim of this study was to compare mortality and unplanned hospitalization rates before and after colonoscopy stratified by patients' BMI.
Material And Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of individuals who underwent screening colonoscopy as part of the Polish Colonoscopy Screening Program (PCSP).

Despite new treatment strategies, graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) remains a formidable complication after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). This study aimed to investigate the impact of polymorphisms and expression of MICA and NKG2D receptor on the development of GvHD in allogeneic HSCT recipients. Soluble MICA (sMICA) concentration was measured in serum collected 30 days after transplantation and the genetic variability of MICA and NKG2D genes was evaluated.

Background: T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin-domain containing-3 (TIM-3) molecule is a key regulator of the immune response by exerting an inhibitory effect on various types of immune cells. Understanding the role of TIM-3 in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) may improve transplant outcomes. Our study evaluated the potential association between TIM-3 polymorphisms, namely rs1036199 (A > C) or rs10515746 (C > A), changes which are located in exon 3 and the promoter region of the TIM-3 gene, and post-HSCT outcomes.

The aim of the present study was to determine the associations between the genetic variability and the expression and the risk of development of post-transplant complications after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). HSCT recipients and their donors were genotyped for two polymorphisms (rs1065075, rs3828903). Moreover, the expression of a soluble form of MICB was determined in the recipients' serum samples after transplantation using the Luminex assay.

Endoscopic resection techniques enable en-bloc resection of T1 colon cancers. A complete removal of T1 colon cancer can be considered curative when histologic examination of the specimens shows none of the high-risk factors for lymph nodes metastases. Criteria predicting lymph nodes metastases include deep submucosal invasion, poor differentiation, lymphovascular invasion, and high-grade tumor budding.

Introduction Patient-reported outcome measurements (PROMs) are gaining considerable popularity as tools to assess the effectiveness of the treatment in plastic surgery, being a complement to surgical outcomes. The SCAR-Q questionnaire has been recently developed for patients with surgical, traumatic, and burn scars. Aim The study aims to describe the process of translation and linguistic validation of the scar questionnaire (SCAR-Q) for use in Polish patients undergoing scar treatment.

Transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCT) is a procedure commonly used in treatment of various haematological disorders which is associated with significantly improved survival rates. However, one of its drawbacks is the possibility of development of post-transplant complications, including acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) or CMV infection. Various studies suggested that NK cells and their receptors may affect the transplant outcome.

Background: Evidence for the efficacy of combined PD-1 and HER2 blockade with chemotherapy on progression-free and overall survival in HER2-positive gastro-oesophageal cancer is scarce. The first interim analysis of the randomised, phase 3 KEYNOTE-811 study showed a superior objective response with pembrolizumab compared with placebo when added to trastuzumab plus fluoropyrimidine and platinum-based chemotherapy. Here, we report results from protocol-specified subsequent interim analyses of KEYNOTE-811.

Anti-EGFR antibodies combined with chemotherapy doublets are a cornerstone of the upfront treatment of colorectal cancer. RAS and BRAF mutations are established negative predictive factors for such therapy. The primary tumour located in the proximal colon has recently emerged as another negative predictive factor.

Background: No gold standard has been developed for the therapy of intracanalicular vestibular schwannomas (IVS). Options for treatment include a conservative approach, microsurgery, or radiosurgery. Although the efficacy of these treatment has been well-documented, little is known about the determinants of outcome in IVSs following radiosurgery.

A 38-year-old transgender man with advanced metastatic functional pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasm (PanNEN) gastrinoma was admitted to the Department of Endocrinology due to severe ACTH-dependent hypercortisolemia. An ectopic production of ACTH by PanNEN was suspected. The patient qualified for bilateral adrenalectomy after preoperative treatment with metyrapone.

Background: Although colonoscopy is widely used as a screening test to detect colorectal cancer, its effect on the risks of colorectal cancer and related death is unclear.
Methods: We performed a pragmatic, randomized trial involving presumptively healthy men and women 55 to 64 years of age drawn from population registries in Poland, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands between 2009 and 2014. The participants were randomly assigned in a 1:2 ratio either to receive an invitation to undergo a single screening colonoscopy (the invited group) or to receive no invitation or screening (the usual-care group).
