Background: Dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, hypertension, and abdominal obesity are important determinants of metabolic syndrome (MetS). Ample studies provide statistical data on the prevalence of MetS among the general public. Conversely, there is a paucity of data on the risk of MetS among different sedentary occupational groups.

Background: Teeth, one of the strongest structures of the human body, stands as reliable evidence in forensic odontology. The gender and age can be estimated from a tooth using various methods. We aimed to estimate the calcium content of an intact tooth and compare it with its average weight and dimension and also to find the possible correlation with the age and gender of an individual.

Separation and quantification of lupeol, stigmasterol and swertiamarin in ethanolic extracts of selected species have been developed using HPTLC and an attempt is made to explore the biopotential of phytochemicals against various proteins by computational analysis. Compounds were separated using the specific mobile phase and the developed plates were sprayed with respective spraying reagents. The 3D structure of the receptor proteins viz.

In recent decades, magnetic bead material has attracted considerable attention in water and wastewater purification. In this study, the potential of magnetic kaolinite immobilized in chitosan beads (MKa@CB) to remove Pb(II) and Cd(II) ions from an aqueous environment has been successfully investigated. The addition of magnetic kaolinite generates more active sites, whereas that of chitosan enhances the stability of synthesized bead materials, which enable them to effectively interact with the targeted contaminants.

Background: Tobacco contains agents which generate various potent DNA adducts that can cause gene mutations. Production of DNA adducts may be neutralized by glutathione S transferase (GST) along with other phase I and phase II enzyme systems. The existence of null type of GST among the population increases the susceptibility to various disorders and diseases.

Background: Glutathione-S-transferase (GST) is an important phase II xenobiotic compound metabolizing enzyme family, involved in tolerance to a particular drug or susceptibility to a diseasec. This study focused the GSTM1 and T1 null allele frequency in the Gujarat population with a comparison across other Inter- and Intra-Indian ethnic groups to predict variation in the possible susceptible status.

Methods: DNA was isolated by a salting out method and GSTM1 and T1 homozygous null genotypes were detected by multiplex polymerase chain reaction in 504 unrelated individuals.

A mathematical model corresponding to homogeneous chemical reactions under transient chronoamperometry conditions at hemispherical microelectrodes has been developed. The analytical solutions for the concentration of species and current were obtained using Duhamel's theorem. This closed-form theoretical expression pertains to the transient concentration profiles and fluxes of chemical species involved in chemical and electrochemical reactions at hemispherical microelectrodes.

Centre for Research in Aquatic Entomology, Department of Zoology, The Madura College (Autonomous), Madurai-625011, Tamil Nadu, India.

The dynamics of physico-chemical factors and their effects on caddisfly communities were examined in 29 streams of southern Western Ghats. Monthly samples were collected from the Thadaganachiamman stream of Sirumalai Hills, Tamil Nadu from May 2006 to April 2007. Southwest and northeast monsoons favored the existence of caddisfly population in streams.
