Characteristics, Management, and Outcomes of Acute Heart Failure in the Emergency Department: A Multicenter Registry Study with 1-year Follow-up in a Chinese Cohort in Beijing.

Background: The emergency department (ED) has a pivotal influence on the management of acute heart failure (AHF), but data concerning current ED management are scarce. This Beijing AHF Registry Study investigated the characteristics, ED management, and short- and long-term clinical outcomes of AHF.

Methods: This prospective, multicenter, observational study consecutively enrolled 3335 AHF patients who visited 14 EDs in Beijing from January 1, 2011, to September 23, 2012.

Effects of body mass index or dosage on gastrointestinal disorders associated with extended-release metformin in type 2 diabetes: Sub-analysis of a Phase IV open-label trial in Chinese patients.

Aim: To determine whether gastrointestinal (GI) tolerability of metformin monotherapy varies according to baseline BMI or at doses >1500mg/day in patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Methods: We performed a sub-analysis of the safety population from a prospective, multicenter, Phase IV open-label study in which 371 Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes received extended-release metformin monotherapy for 16 weeks. The incidence, severity and duration of GI adverse events (AEs) were compared between normal-weight (BMI<25kg/m(2), n=155) and overweight/obese (BMI≥25kg/m(2), n=216) patients.

Surgical resection of cerebellar hemangioblastoma with enhanced wall thickness: A report of two cases.

Hemangioblastomas are tumors of the central nervous system, and the cerebellum is the most common site of occurrence. Cerebellar hemangioblastoma with enhanced wall thickness is rare and often misdiagnosed preoperatively. At present, no unified radiological classification system based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings exists for cerebellar hemangioblastoma, and this tumor type can be solid or cystic mass, according to the MRI findings.

Inhibition of three novel Radix Scutellariae extracts on immediate hypersensitivity.

Background: Radix Scutellariae, a few papers reported its pharmacology activities including alleviate small intestines smooth muscles spasm, sedation, antihypertensive effect. However, the inhibition of its different organic extracts on immediate hypersensitivity has not bee researched.

Materials And Methods: To investigate the anti-immediate hypersensitivity of three extracts including ethanol extracts, acetone extracts, ethyl acetate extracts from Radix Scutellariae, four pharmacological screening model were chose, such as 4-Aminopyridine induced pruritus model, histamine-induced mouse paw edema model, PCA(passive cutaneous anaphylaxis) in ear of mouse, activie cutaneous anaphylaxismouse (mouse ear edema test), furthermore, total IgE level in the sensitized mice serum was evaluated deeply.

Clinical curative effect analysis and predictors of prognosis in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy after anterior temporal lobectomy: results after five years.

Background: Anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) is the most common surgical treatment for temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), although long-term prognosis is often less favorable than short-term outcomes. This study aimed to examine the outcomes of patients with TLE 5 years after undergoing ATL, and to seek possible predictors of prognosis.

Methods: We examined the clinical records of 121 patients with TLE who underwent ATL in our institution between January 2005 and December 2008.

The effects of maggot secretions on the inflammatory cytokines in serum of traumatic rats.

The objective of this study was to analyse the changes of inflammatory cytokines level in traumatic rat serum after maggot secretions intervention. Acute traumatic rats were randomly divided into three groups that included maggot secretions group, negative group, and the control group. TNF-α, IL-6, SOD, LPO levels were measured by radioimmunoassay.

Serum overexpression of microRNA-10b in patients with bone metastatic primary breast cancer.

Objective: Bone metastasis is a major complication of advanced breast cancer. The present prospective case-control study investigated the involvement of microRNA (miR)-10b in the development of bone metastasis arising from primary breast carcinoma.

Methods: Serum miR-10b concentrations were determined by quantitative real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction in 122 patients with breast cancer, with or without bone metastases, and 59 age-matched healthy control subjects.
