variants in children with neurodevelopmental impairment are difficult to assess due to their heterogeneity and unclear pathogenic mechanisms. We describe a child with neonatal-onset epilepsy, developmental impairment of intermediate severity, and G256W heterozygosity. Analyzing prior KCNQ2 channel cryoelectron microscopy models revealed G256 as a node of an arch-shaped non-covalent bond network linking S5, the pore turret, and the ion path.

The high failure rate of surgical repair for tendinopathies has spurred interest in adjunct therapies, including exosomes (EVs). Mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)-derived EVs (MSCdEVs) have been of particular interest as they improve several metrics of tendon healing in animal models. However, research has shown that EVs derived from tissue-native cells, such as tenocytes, are functionally distinct and may better direct tendon healing.

The Particle Time of Flight (PTOF) diagnostic is a chemical vapor deposition diamond-based detector and is the only diagnostic for measuring nuclear bang times of low yield (<1013) shots on the National Ignition Facility. Recently, a comprehensive study of detector impulse responses revealed certain detectors with very fast and consistent impulse responses with a rise time of <50 ps, enabling low yield burn history measurements. At the current standoff of 50 cm, this measurement is possible with fast 14 MeV neutrons from deuterium-tritium (DT) fusion plasmas.

In 2022, the catchment area of the Fred Hutchinson/University of Washington/Seattle Children's Cancer Consortium (the Consortium) grew from 13-counties in Western Washington State to include all 39 counties in Washington. Widening the catchment area provided new opportunities for the Consortium to monitor the cancer burden, identify cancer-related health disparities, use a bidirectional approach to develop cancer focused programming, and facilitate research in clinical and community settings. In this commentary, we describe the exploratory process of catchment area change led by the Consortium's Office of Community Outreach and Engagement and new initiatives that followed that growth.

We report the synthesis, structural characterization and magnetic properties of Kcoronene, and demonstrate a computational screening workflow designed to accelerate the discovery of metal intercalated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH), a class of materials of interest following reports of superconductivity, but lacking demonstrated and understood characterised material compositions. Coronene is identified as a suitable PAH candidate from a library of PAHs for potassium intercalation by computational screening of their electronic structure and of the void space in their crystal structures, targeting LUMO similarity to C and the availability of suitable sites to accommodate inserted cations. Convex hull calculations with energies from crystal structure prediction based on ion insertion into the identified void space of coronene suggest that the = 3 composition in K coronene is stable at 0 K, reinforcing the suitability of coronone for experimental investigation.

Artificial intelligence (AI) methods have been proposed for the prediction of social behaviors that could be reasonably understood from patient-reported information. This raises novel ethical concerns about respect, privacy, and control over patient data. Ethical concerns surrounding clinical AI systems for social behavior verification can be divided into two main categories: (1) the potential for inaccuracies/biases within such systems, and (2) the impact on trust in patient-provider relationships with the introduction of automated AI systems for "fact-checking", particularly in cases where the data/models may contradict the patient.
