Background: Prognostic indicators, treatments, and survival estimates vary by cancer type. Therefore, disease-specific models are needed to estimate patient survival. Our primary aim was to develop models to estimate survival duration after treatment for skeletal-related events (SREs) (symptomatic bone metastasis, including impending or actual pathologic fractures) in men with metastatic bone disease due to prostate cancer.

Purpose: There may be a difference in respiratory mechanics, inflammatory markers, and pulmonary emboli in COVID-19 associated ARDS vs. ARDS from other etiologies. Our purpose was to determine differences in respiratory mechanics, inflammatory markers, and incidence of pulmonary embolism in patients with and without COVID-19 associated ARDS admitted in the same period and treated with a similar ventilation strategy.

Objectives: The purpose of our study was to assess COVID-19 vaccine acceptance among health care workers (HCWs) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and identify: 1) vaccine acceptance barriers; 2) demographic differences; and 3) the most trusted COVID-19 sources of information.
Methods: Between October and December 2020, all registered HCWs in the KSA were emailed a survey questionnaire, using Qualtrics® and Google Forms®, evaluating their acceptance of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Results: Of the 23,582 participants surveyed, 15,299 (64.

Introduction: Established in 2009, the Department of Defense (DoD) Peer-Reviewed Orthopaedic Research Program (PRORP) is an annual funding program for orthopaedic research that seeks to develop evidence for new clinical practice guidelines, procedures, technologies, and drugs. The aim was to help reduce the burden of injury for wounded Service members, Veterans, and civilians and to increase return-to-duty and return-to-work rates. Relative to its burden of disease, musculoskeletal injuries (MSKIs) are one of the most disproportionately underfunded conditions.

Unlabelled: Optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) ultrasound is becoming increasingly more popular for estimating raised intracranial pressure (ICP). We performed a systematic review and analysis of the diagnostic accuracy of ONSD when compared to the standard invasive ICP measurement.
Method: We performed a systematic search of PUBMED and EMBASE for studies including adult patients with suspected elevated ICP and comparing sonographic ONSD measurement to a standard invasive method.

Real-Time-reverse-transcription-Polymerase-Chain-Reaction from nasopharyngeal swabs and chest computed tomography (CT) depicting typically bilateral ground-glass opacities with a peripheral and/or posterior distribution are mandatory in the diagnosis of COVID-19. COVID-19 pneumonia may present though with atypical features such as pleural and pericardial effusions, lymphadenopathy, cavitations, and CT halo sign. In these two case-reports, COVID-19 presented as pneumothorax, pneumomediastinum and subcutaneous emphysema in critically ill patients.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may present as acute abdomen, although the pathophysiology remains obscure. We report the case of a 45-year-old-man with severe COVID-19 pneumonia with associated pulmonary embolism who presented with acute abdomen. He underwent emergency laparotomy and resection of an ischaemic area of the jejunum.

Our aim was to investigate continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) with CytoSorb cartridge for patients with life-threatening COVID-19 plus acute kidney injury (AKI), sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and cytokine release syndrome (CRS). Of 492 COVID-19 patients admitted to our intensive care unit (ICU), 50 had AKI necessitating CRRT (10.16%) and were enrolled in the study.

The patient was diagnosed with a flare of lupus; while being on maintenance hydroxychloroquine therapy. However, after the administration of steroids she made an uneventful recovery and was discharged home.

The ongoing worldwide pandemic of the novel human coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and the ensuing disease, COVID-19, has presented enormous and unprecedented challenges for all medical specialists. However, to date, children, especially neonates, have been relatively spared from the devastating consequences of this infection. Neurologic involvement is being increasingly recognized among adults with COVID-19, who can develop sensory deficits in smell and taste, delirium, encephalopathy, headaches, strokes, and peripheral nervous system disorders.

Background: In biomedical research, level of evidence (LOE) indicates the quality of a study. Recent studies evaluating orthopaedic trauma literature between 1998 and 2013 have indicated that LOE in this field has improved. The objective of this study was to determine the validity of one such study by 1) comparing our results and how they relate to more recent years of publications; and 2) assessing how our findings may be used to estimate future changes.

Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is an idiopathic or secondary disorder associated with many systemic illnesses. Long-term survival in PH depends on the severity and functional class. Several new drugs are now available to treat PH, but their impact on clinical outcome and survival are not well established.

Background: Although significant surgical advances have been made in the form of microvascular surgery and autologous free tissue transfer, penile reconstruction still poses several difficult challenges. Although interest in penile vascularized composite allotransplantation has grown since the first attempted transplant in 2006, little is known regarding the kinetics of rejection and subsequent function of penile allografts. The penis contains multiple tissue types that are not qualified by the Banff 2007 vascularized composite allotransplantation classification system, including urogenital mucosal epithelium and erectile tissues.

Purpose: To explore the advantages of differentiating inflammatory from malignant thoracic lymph nodes by integrating their features on positron emission tomography (PET) and computed tomography (CT).
Material And Method: Following institutional review board approval, PET and CT parameters of thoracic lymph nodes were examined based on their pathologic diagnosis via endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration. The standardized uptake value (SUV) of PET and CT findings of the long- and short-axis diameters, axial short to long diameter ratios (S/L), and measured nodal CT values of the lymph nodes were compared and analyzed statistically.

Pregnant women are at high risk for venous thromboembolism, including pulmonary embolism (PE), given expected changes in coagulation, fibrinolysis, and venous blood flow. In fact, PE is the leading cause of maternal death in the United States. Nonpregnant patients who develop PE with hypotension or show signs of deterioration after anticoagulation receive thrombolytics as a standard of care.
