Background: Previous studies have not elucidated the factors affecting marriage and pregnancy/childbirth. This study identifies whether work characteristics and conditions affect marriage and pregnancy/childbirth among women physicians.
Methods: This nationwide survey was conducted on women members of three major Japanese medical societies: internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, and surgery.

Fabry disease is the most frequently occurring form of lysosomal disease in Japan, and is characterized by a wide variety of conditions. Primarily, the three major types of concerns associated with Fabry disease observed during adulthood that must be prevented are central nervous system, renal, and cardiac complications. Cardiac complications, such as cardiomyopathy, cardiac muscle fibrosis, and severe arrhythmia, are the most common mortality causes in patients with Fabry disease.

Background: Deterioration of the oral environment is one of the risk factors for dementia. A previous study of an Alzheimer's disease (AD) model mouse suggests that tooth loss induces denervation of the mesencephalic trigeminal nucleus and neuroinflammation, possibly leading to accelerated tau dissemination from the nearby locus coeruleus (LC).
Objective: To elucidate the relevance of oral conditions and amyloid-β (Aβ) and tau pathologies in human participants.

Positron emission tomography (PET) with F-PM-PBB3 (F-APN-1607, F-Florzolotau) enables high-contrast detection of tau depositions in various neurodegenerative dementias, including Alzheimer's disease (AD) and frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD). A simplified method for quantifying radioligand binding in target regions is to employ the cerebellum as a reference (CB-ref) on the assumption that the cerebellum has minimal tau pathologies. This procedure is typically valid in AD, while FTLD disorders exemplified by progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) are characterized by occasional tau accumulations in the cerebellum, hampering the application of CB-ref.

Aim: To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of therapeutic strategies initiated at different stages of liver fibrosis using three direct-acting antivirals (DAAs), sofosbuvir-ledipasvir (SL), glecaprevir-pibrentasvir (GP), and elbasvir plus grazoprevir (E/G), for Japanese patients with chronic hepatitis C (CHC) genotype 1.
Methods: We created an analytical decision model reflecting the progression of liver fibrosis stages to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of alternative therapeutic strategies applied at different fibrosis stages. We compared six treatment strategies: treating all patients regardless of fibrosis stage (TA), treating individual patients with one of four treatments starting at four respective stages of liver fibrosis progression (F1S: withholding treatment at stage F0 and starting treatment from stage F1 or higher, and three successive options, F2S, F3S, and F4S), and administering no antiviral treatment (NoRx).

Objective: Incidental aneurysms pose a challenge for physicians, who need to weigh the rupture risk against the risks associated with treatment and its complications. A statistical model could potentially support such treatment decisions. A recently developed aneurysm rupture probability model performed well in the US data used for model training and in data from two European cohorts for external validation.

Pheromones are crucial for eliciting social and sexual behaviors in diverse animal species. The vomeronasal receptor type-1 (V1R) genes, encoding members of a pheromone receptor family, are highly variable in number and repertoire among mammals due to extensive gene gain and loss. Here, we report a novel pheromone receptor gene belonging to the V1R family, named ancient V1R (ancV1R), which is shared among most Osteichthyes (bony vertebrates) from the basal lineage of ray-finned fishes to mammals.

Background/aims: The current study was undertaken to assess if the semi-solid formulas could be used with a new ENFit connector with similar force to current percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) tubes.
Methods: Experiment 1: We measured the applied pressure (force) needed to compress the syringe containing 7 viscous semi-solid formulas with a 20 Fr PEG tube and low-profile tube through the ENFit connector or the current connector. Experiment 2: This experiment was conducted to evaluate the compression force through 2 connectors in 3 infusion velocity, 7 PEG tube types with 2 semi-solid formulas.

The aim of stoma care and rehabilitation is improving the quality of life of the patient with a stoma. There are more than 1,700 stoma specialist nurses in Japan, eg, enterostomal therapists(ET)and wound, ostomy, and continence nurses(WOCN), who are involved in the care of patients with stomas. In this manuscript, we describe our role in the care of patients with temporary/permanent stomas created for emergency disease and/or palliative care, and the adverse effects of various current chemotherapies.

We herein present the case of a 60-year-old male with narrow QRS tachycardia who had a remarkable PR prolongation during sinus rhythm. The tachycardia was diagnosed as a slow-fast atrioventricular nodal reentry tachycardia. Slow pathway ablation was performed after the confirmation of the presence of an antegrade fast pathway.

Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is a clonal hematopoietic disorder caused by the reciprocal translocation between chromosome 9 and 22. As a result of this translocation, a novel fusion gene, BCR-ABL, is created on Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome, and the constitutive activity of the BCR-ABL protein tyrosine kinase plays a critical role in the disease pathogenesis. Imatinib mesylate, a selective BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase inhibitor, was first given to a patient with CML in June 1998.

This study compared human murine stromal cells for their capacity to support human hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) development into the B lineage. FACS sorted human fetal bone marrow (BM) HSC (CD34+CD19- or CD34+/CD10-/CD19-/CD45RA) were cultured on human fetal BM stromal cells, human skin fibroblasts, or murine S17 stromal cells and analyzed by flow cytometry or reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. CD34+CD19- HSC on human BM stromal cells or fibroblasts differentiated into B-lineage cells with a continuum in density of surface CD19 expression, and some cells expressing micro/kappa or micro/lambda B-cell receptors.
