Utility of 3D double-echo steady-state with water excitation (3D-DESS-WE) in diagnosing intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma: A case report.

Differentiating intraparotid facial nerve schwannoma from other parotid tumors, particularly pleomorphic adenoma, is clinically crucial due to significant differences in treatment approaches. We report a case of a male patient in his 70s presenting with a left parotid mass. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) revealed a mass within the left parotid gland exhibiting the characteristic ``target sign''.

Relationship between Neovascularization and Aortic Wall Enhancement in Type A Aortic Dissection.

Background:  Aortic wall enhancement (AWE), evaluated with computed tomography angiography in Type B aortic dissection, is associated with aortic remodeling. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between AWE and pathological findings of the aortic wall using an aortic wall sample from a Type A aortic dissection (TAD).

Methods:  We examined patients with TAD treated between January 2012 and February 2023.

Introduction And Importance: The importance of preoperative tumor site marking has increased over the years, as the method of intraoperative primary lesion identification and determination of resection margins is one factor determining whether oncological safety and function-preserving gastrectomy are possible during surgery. We hypothesize that preoperative placement of the near-infrared fluorescent (NIRF) clip, ZEOCLIP FS, near the oral incision line of the gastric tumor will allow for Firefly recognition of the NIRF clip on da Vinci during surgery and easy determination of the tumor location and incision line. Hence, we report on two cases in which the procedure was performed.

Background/aim: Background/Aim: Thrombocytopenia is a poor prognostic factor in patients with myeloma; however, the factors associated with thrombocytopenia have not been extensively discussed. This study aimed to investigate the clinical significance of thrombocytopenia, defined as 130×10/μl or less, in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) treated with proteasome inhibitors and/or immunomodulatory drugs.

Gastric metastasis from renal cell carcinoma with submucosal invasion treated by surgical full-thickness resection: a case report.

Background: Metastatic gastric tumors are rare and malignant melanoma, breast cancer, lung cancer, and esophageal cancer are common as primary lesions. On the other hand, renal cell carcinoma is easy to metastasize hematogenously to the whole body. However, metastasis to the stomach is rare and the detailed treatment of gastric metastasis is not mentioned.

Estimation of reference interval for neutrophil activity evaluation systems: a interim report.

Neutrophils play an important role in innate immunity and produce reactive oxygen species, but they can also cause inflammation and oxidative stress that can damage their own tissues. We have developed neutrophil activity evaluation systems that simultaneously monitors superoxide radicals and hypochlorite ions secreted by stimulated neutrophils in a few microliters of whole blood and have conducted clinical studies in humans. Here, we report normal reference intervals with our systems based on the results of 3,082 persons who underwent comprehensive cancer screening between February 2020 and March 2022.

Intracranial atherosclerotic disease mechanism indicates poor outcomes of thrombectomy in acute cerebral infarction with large vessel occlusion: A matched cohort study.

Background: Thrombectomy is a standard treatment for acute large vessel occlusion (LVO); however, its effectiveness in treating LVO related to intracranial atherosclerosis disease (ICAD) remains uncertain. This study aimed to compare thrombectomy outcomes in ICAD-related and embolic LVO, focusing on patients with similar symptom severities upon hospital admission.

Objective: This study aimed to understand the effectiveness of regular care in reducing the incidence of severe peristomal skin disorders, as well as to identify their risk factors.

Summary Background Data: Peristomal skin disorders occur frequently in outpatient settings and require appropriate intervention. It remains, however, to be demonstrated when the need to follow up these patients decreases and whether assessing severity of peristomal skin disorders is useful.

Factors influencing home discharge of hospitalized oldest-old patients (≥90 years): A retrospective quantitative case-control study.

The purpose of this retrospective study was to identify factors that could predict the discharge destination of oldest-old patients (patients aged ≥90 years). Information on the nutritional status, activities of daily living (ADL), nursing care needs based on nursing need degree (NND), rehabilitation therapy, and discharge destination was obtained from the medical records of 90 oldest-old patients aged ≥90 years admitted to our hospital, excluding orthopedic inpatients and short-term (≤5 days) inpatients. Of these, 64 were discharged home while 4 died during hospitalization.

Histopathologic examinations of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) reveal concentric accumulation of lymphocytes in the perivascular area with fibrosis. However, the nature of this fibrosis in "stiff" PCNSL remains unclear. We have encountered some PCNSLs with hard masses as surgical findings.

Background: We aimed to compare the prognostic values of 'localized treatment to the primary lesion (LT) plus hormone therapy (HT)' versus 'HT alone' in metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC).

Methods: We conducted a systematic search through the databases of PubMed®, Web of Science®, and Cochrane library® in April 2023 based on the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systemic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) statement. A pooled meta-analysis was performed to assess the prognostic differences between LT + HT and HT alone according to randomized and non-randomized controlled studies (RCTs and NRCTs, respectively).

New Proposal Strategy of Sentinel Lymph Node Navigation Surgery for Endoscopic Curability C-2: A Retrospective Study.

Background/aim: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of the sentinel node navigation surgery (SNNS) followed by limited gastrectomy for early gastric cancer (EGC) with Endoscopic Curability C-2 (eCuraC-2).

Patients And Methods: Between 2001 and 2018, 33 patients were included in this study. Following sentinel node (SN) biopsy using indocyanine green combined with an infrared ray laparoscopic system, limited gastrectomy (LG) [wedge resection (WR), or segmental gastrectomy (SG)] was performed without extended lymphadenectomy.

Objective: This retrospective cohort study aimed to explore the surgical outcomes and prognostic factors of resection of pulmonary metastases (PM) from colorectal cancer (CRC).

Methods: Overall, 60 patients who underwent resection of PM from CRC between 2015 and 2021 at two institutions were reviewed. The primary outcome were overall survival (OS) and early recurrence after PM resection.

Managing hypertriglyceridemia for cardiovascular disease prevention: Lessons from the PROMINENT trial.

Background: Numerous epidemiological studies have shown that hypertriglyceridemia is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD). However, large clinical studies on triglyceride-lowering therapy have yielded inconsistent results. In the current review, we reassess the importance of triglyceride-lowering therapy in preventing CVD based on previous literature and the recently published findings of the PROMINENT trial.
