Background: Subjective tinnitus is a common symptom, and there is often an underlying otological cause. This study investigated the degree of tinnitus-related annoyance in patients with chronic otitis media and analysed whether associations with tinnitus severity exist.
Method: The multinational collaborative Chronic Otitis Media Questionnaire-12 study collected prospective data on 478 adult patients suffering from chronic otitis media across 9 otology referral centres in 8 countries.

Purpose: In chronic otitis media (COM), disease chronicity and severity of middle ear inflammation may influence the development of inner ear deficits, increasing the risk of vestibular impairment. This secondary analysis of the multinational collaborative Chronic Otitis Media Questionnaire-12 (COMQ-12) dataset sought to determine the prevalence of vestibular symptoms in patients with COM and identify associated disease-related characteristics.
Methods: Adult patients with a diagnosis of COM in outpatient settings at nine otology referral centers across eight countries were included.

Introduction: Tympanic membrane retraction (TMR) is a relatively common otologic finding. Currently, there is no consensus on the optimal treatment of TMR. Some ENT-surgeons advocate surgical correction while others opt for a watchful-waiting policy.

Objective: In March 2018, the Explorer study, an international, double-blind, randomised controlled trial (RCT), established that adding a TLC-NOSF (UrgoStart Contact, Laboratoires Urgo, France) dressing to good local standard of care (SoC) significantly and substantially increases wound closure and reduces the healing time of neuroischaemic diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). Besides the TLC-NOSF treatment, the wound duration was the only other covariate that had an influence on the wound closure rate in the regression model used in the original study. The purpose of this work was to further document the impact of wound duration on the healing outcomes of the DFUs included in the Explorer study and to discuss complementary pragmatic observations on the TLC-NOSF effect.

Purpose: To investigate long-term outcomes of pro re nata (PRN) treatment protocol of ranibizumab for diabetic macular edema (DME) adopted from the first month of therapy without 3 loading doses.
Design: Retrospective interventional study.
Methods: We analyzed 180 eyes of 144 patients treated with ranibizumab for DME with a minimum follow-up of 1 year during December 2013 to December 2017.

Objective: Assessment of validity of the Japanese Otological Society and the European Academy of Otology and Neurotology (EAONO-JOS) cholesteatoma staging system (EJS) through international collaboration to investigate: (a) feasibility of retrospectively staging previously acquired data, (b) strengths and weaknesses of the staging system.
Method: Nine centers with prospective cholesteatoma databases were recruited. Cases were allocated to EJS Stage at each center using details from time of initial surgery.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to report the efficiency and safety of intravitreal aflibercept for the treatment of cystoid macular edema (CME) secondary to central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO).
Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study. Ten naive eyes of ten patients with CME secondary to CRVO were included.

Venetoclax is a BCL2 inhibitor with activity in relapsed/refractory (R/R) chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). We conducted a multi-centre retrospective analysis of 105 R/R CLL patients who received venetoclax pre-National Health Service commissioning. The median age was 67 years and median prior lines was 3 (range: 1-15).

Cerebral oxygen delivery is central to the modern intensive care of patients with severe traumatic brain injury. Low brain tissue oxygen tension (PO) results from microvascular collapse and diffusion limitation and is associated with adverse outcome. A number of therapies to improve oxygen delivery are known to be effective in improving PO.

Context: Recent studies using skin biopsy suggest presence of small-fiber neuropathy in subclinical hypothyroidism. This study uses two noninvasive methods-the laser Doppler imager flare technique (LDIFLARE) and corneal confocal microscopy (CCM)-to assess small-fiber function (SFF) and small-fiber structure (SFS), respectively, in newly diagnosed hypothyroidism (HT) before and after adequate treatment.
Design And Setting: Single-center, prospective, intervention-based cohort study.

What Is Known And Objective: Drugs with anticholinergic properties increase the risk of falls, delirium, chronic cognitive impairment, and mortality and counteract procholinergic medications used in the treatment of dementia. Medication review and optimisation to reduce anticholinergic burden in patients at risk is recommended by specialist bodies. Little is known how effective this review is in patients who present acutely and how often drugs with anticholinergic properties are used temporarily during an admission.

Introduction: The laser Doppler imaging (LDI) FLARE and corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) are reliable markers of small fibre function (SFF) and structure (SFS), respectively, but the impact of potential confounding variables needs to be defined. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of age, anthropometric and biochemical variables on LDI and CCM.
Methods: 80 healthy volunteers (43 males) (age: 39.

Background: Diabetic foot ulcers are serious and challenging wounds associated with high risk of infection and lower-limb amputation. Ulcers are deemed neuroischaemic if peripheral neuropathy and peripheral artery disease are both present. No satisfactory treatment for neuroischaemic ulcers currently exists, and no evidence supports one particular dressing.

Objective: To assess use of imaging in patients admitted to UK hospitals with acute pancreatitis (AP).
Methods: 4,479 patients had a diagnosis AP in the first 6 months of 2014. The National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) selected patients with more severe AP for case review.

Objectives: Because of fundamental differences in healthcare systems, US readmission data cannot be extrapolated to the European setting: To investigate the opinions of readmitted patients, their carers, nurses and physicians on predictability and preventability of readmissions and using majority consensus to determine contributing factors that could potentially foresee (preventable) readmissions.
Design: Prospective observational study. Readmitted patients, their carers, and treating professionals were surveyed during readmission to assess the discharge process and the predictability and preventability of the readmission.
Objectives: To test the feasibility of a randomised trial in muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) and compare outcomes in patients who receive neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by radical cystectomy (RC) or selective bladder preservation (SBP), where definitive treatment [RC or radiotherapy (RT)] is determined by response to chemotherapy.
Patients And Methods: SPARE is a multicentre randomised controlled trial comparing RC and SBP in patients with MIBC staged T2-3 N0 M0, fit for both treatment strategies and receiving three cycles of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Patients were randomised between RC and SBP before a cystoscopy after cycle three of neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

The National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death (NCEPOD) is an independent organisation whose remit is to review the quality of medical and surgical care provided in the United Kingdom. We undertook a review into the care provided to patients treated for acute pancreatitis during a 6 month study period between 1st January and 30th June 2014. This included assessment of care at an organisational level, clinical level within hospitals and external peer review.

The European Academy of Otology and Neurotology (EAONO) has previously published a consensus document on the definitions and classification of cholesteatoma. It was based on the Delphi consensus methodology involving the broad EAONO membership. At the same time, the Japanese Otological Society (JOS) had been working independently on the "Classification and Staging of Cholesteatoma.
