In response to the challenges of food spoilage and water pollution caused by pathogenic microorganisms, CeO/g-CN nanocomposites were synthesized via one-step calcination using thiourea and urea as precursors. Steady-state photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy analysis demonstrated that 8 wt% CeO/g-CN exhibited superior electron-hole separation efficiency. Quantitative antimicrobial assays demonstrated that the nanocomposites displayed enhanced bactericidal activity against , , and .

Key Laboratory for Quality Regulation of Tropical Horticultural Crops of Hainan Province, School of Tropical Agriculture and Forestry (School of Agricultural and Rural Affairs, School of Rural Revitalization), Hainan University, Haikou, Hainan, China.

Article Synopsis
  • CIPKs are crucial for how plants adapt to salty environments, but their role in the halophyte Sesuvium portulacastrum is not well understood.
  • Researchers identified a highly expressed CIPK gene, SpCIPK2, in S. portulacastrum roots under salt stress, and confirmed its presence in the cytoplasm.
  • Overexpressing SpCIPK2 in Arabidopsis thaliana improved salt tolerance by maintaining ion balance, increasing antioxidant activity, and reducing harmful reactive oxygen species during salt stress.*

NAC-domain transcription factors (TFs) are plant-specific transcriptional regulators playing crucial roles in plant secondary cell wall (SCW) biosynthesis. SCW is important for plant growth and development, maintaining plant morphology, providing rigid support, ensuring material transportation and participating in plant stress responses as a protective barrier. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying SCW in eggplant have not been thoroughly explored.

In this study, Cu-doped ZnO was prepared via the facile one-pot solvothermal approach. The structure and composition of the synthesized samples were characterized by XRD (X-ray diffraction), TEM (transmission electron microscopy), and XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) analyses, revealing that the synthesized samples consisted of Cu-doped ZnO nanoparticles. Ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy analysis showed that Cu-doping significantly improves the visible light absorption properties of ZnO.

Male sterility is a highly attractive agronomic trait as it effectively prevents self-fertilization and facilitates the production of high-quality hybrid seeds in plants. Timely release of mature pollen following anther dehiscence is essential for stamen development in flowering plants. Although several theories have been proposed regarding this, the specific mechanism of anther development in eggplant remains elusive.

College of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Southwest University, Chongqing 400715, China; Chongqing Key Laboratory of Olericulture, Chongqing 400715, China. Electronic address:

The stamen, as the male reproductive organ of flowering plants, plays a critical role in completing the life cycle of plants. MYC transcription factors are members of the bHLH IIIE subgroup and participate in a number of plant biological processes. In recent decades, a number of studies have confirmed that MYC transcription factors actively participate in the regulation of stamen development and have a critical impact on plant fertility.

Article Synopsis
  • Cherry tomatoes, particularly the cultivar Qianxi, are widely cultivated in Hainan Province, China, valued for their sweetness and nutritional benefits.
  • From October 2020 to February 2021, a leaf spot disease was identified, affecting about 40% of plants in three fields, with symptoms including chlorosis, black lesions, and eventual leaf necrosis.
  • Fungal isolates obtained from diseased leaves matched the characteristics of Exserohilum rostratum, and further studies on genomic DNA and pathogenicity were conducted using a representative isolate (FQY-7).

Crop rotation can assemble distinct core microbiota as functionally specific barriers against the invasion of banana Fusarium oxysporum pathogens. However, the taxonomic identity of rotation-unique core taxa and their legacy effects are poorly understood under field conditions. Pepper and eggplant rotations were employed to reveal rotation crop- and banana-unique antagonistic core taxa by in situ tracking of the soil microbiome assembly patterns for 2 yr.

[The role of NAC transcription factors in flower development in plants].

Sheng Wu Gong Cheng Xue Bao

August 2022

College of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Southwest University, Chongqing 400715, China.

Transcription factors, the proteins with special structures, can bind to specific sites and regulate specific expression of target genes. NAC (NAM, ATAF1/2, CUC1/2) transcription factors, unique to plants, are composed of a conserved N-terminal domain and a highly variable C-terminal transcriptional activation domain. NAC transcription factors are involved in plant growth and development, responses to biotic and abiotic stresses and other processes, playing a regulatory role in flower development.
