Microneedles for skin regeneration are conventionally restricted by uncontrollable multi-drug release, limited types of drugs, and poor wound adhesion. Here, a novel core-shell microneedle patch is developed for scarless skin repair, where the shell is composed of hydrophilic gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) loaded with mangiferin, an anti-inflammatory small molecule, and the core is composed of hydrophobic poly (lactide--propylene glycol--lactide) dimethacrylates (PGLADMA) loaded with bioactive macromolecule and human mesenchymal stromal cell (hMSC)-derived exosomes. This material choice provides several benefits: the GelMA shell provides a swelling interface for tissue interlocking and rapid release of mangiferin at an early wound healing stage for anti-inflammation, whereas the PGLADMA core offers long-term encapsulation and release of exosomes (30% release in 3 weeks), promoting sustained angiogenesis and anti-inflammation.

Reversible protonic ceramic cells (RePCCs) hold promise for efficient energy storage, but their practicality is hindered by a lack of high-performance air electrode materials. Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite SrFeO (SF) exhibits superior proton uptake and rapid ionic conduction, boosting activity. However, excessive proton uptake during RePCC operation degrades SF's crystal structure, impacting durability.

Mitochondria are important drug targets for anticancer and other disease therapies. Certain human mitochondrial DNA sequences capable of forming G-quadruplex structures (G4s) are emerging drug targets of small molecules. Despite some mitochondria-selective ligands being reported for drug delivery against cancers, the ligand design is mostly limited to the triphenylphosphonium scaffold.

To seed lethal secondary lesions, circulating tumor cells (CTCs) must survive all rate-limiting factors during hematogenous dissemination, including fluid shear stress (FSS) that poses a grand challenge to their survival. We thus hypothesized that CTCs with the ability to survive FSS in vasculature might hold metastasis-initiating competence. This study reported that FSS of physiologic magnitude selected a small subpopulation of suspended tumor cells in vitro with the traits of metastasis-initiating cells, including stemness, migration/invasion potential, cellular plasticity, and biophysical properties.

Recently, the emergence of all-organic perovskites with three-dimensional (3D) structures has expanded the potential applications of perovskite materials. However, the synthesis and utilization of all-organic perovskites in 2D form remain largely unexplored because the design principle has not been developed. We present the successful synthesis of a metal-free 2D layered perovskite, denoted as the Choi-Loh van der Waals phase (CL-v phase), with the chemical formula ABX, where A represents a larger-sized cation compared to B and X denotes an anion.

City-scale traffic data, such as traffic flow, speed, and density on every road segment, are the foundation of modern urban research. However, accessing such data on a city scale is challenging due to the limited number of sensors and privacy concerns. Consequently, most of the existing traffic datasets are typically limited to small, specific urban areas with incomplete data types, hindering the research in urban studies, such as transportation, environment, and energy fields.

Cumulative second harmonic Lamb waves in nonlinear media feature increasing amplitudes with propagation distance, conducive to the monitoring of material microstructural changes in structures. The phenomenon can be readily generated by zero-order symmetric (S0) mode waves in the low-frequency range. However, in a practical piezoelectric-transducer-activated system, both S0 and A0 (zero-order antisymmetric) mode Lamb waves are inevitably excited, while only the former is responsible for cumulative effects.

A series of new pyrazole-alkyl phosphine ligands with varying cycloalkyl ring sizes that enable additive-free regio- and chemoselective C─H arylation of heterocycles are reported. Excellent α/β selectivity of various heterocycles such as benzo[b]thiophene, thiophene, furan, benzofuran, and thiazole can be achieved using these ligands, along with excellent chemoselectivity of C─Cl over C─OTf of chloroaryl triflates. Mechanistic studies supported by both experimental findings and density functional theory calculations indicate that the pyrazole phosphine ligands with optimal ring sizes allow the reaction to proceed with a lower energy barrier via a concerted metalation-deprotonation pathway.

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress can trigger various cell death mechanisms beyond apoptosis, providing promise in cancer treatment. Oncosis, characterized by cellular swelling and increased membrane permeability, represents a non-apoptotic form of cell death. In our study, we discovered that Arnicolide D (AD), a natural sesquiterpene lactone compound, induces ER stress-mediated oncosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, and this process is reactive oxygen species (ROS)-dependent.

Antibiotic resistance is a global health issue, with Klebsiella pneumoniae (KP) posing a particular threat due to its ability to acquire resistance to multiple drug classes rapidly. OXA-232 is a carbapenemase that confers resistance to carbapenems, a class of antibiotics often used as a last resort for treating severe bacterial infections. The study reports the earliest known identification of six OXA-232-producing KP strains that were isolated in Zhejiang, China, in 2008 and 2009 within a hospital, two years prior to the first reported identification of OXA-232 in France.

Amphiphilic molecules functionalized with photoresponsive motifs have attractive prospects for applications in smart functional bio-material ranging from cell-material interfaces to drug delivery systems owing to the precisely controllable functionality of self-assembled hierarchical supramolecular structures in aqueous media by a non-invasive light stimulation with high temporal- and spatial-resolution. However, most of reported photoresponsive amphiphiles are triggered by bio-damaging UV-light, which greatly limits the potential in bio-related applications. Herein, we present newly designed red-light controlled N,N'-diaryl-substituted indigo amphiphiles (IA), exhibiting excellent photoswitchablity and photostability with dual red-/green-light in organic media.
