Orthodontic tooth movement (OTM) is generated by a mechanical force that induces an aseptic inflammatory response in the periodontal tissues and a subsequent coordinated process of bone resorption and apposition. In this review, we critically summarize the current knowledge on the immune processes involved in OTM inflammation and provide a novel insight into the relationship between classical inflammation and clinical OTM phases. We found that most studies focused on the acute inflammatory process, which ignites the initial alveolar bone resorption.

Methods: This was a single-center, randomized, controlled, four-treatment, parallel-group, double-blind, 3-month clinical trial. Healthy adult subjects with gingivitis were randomly assigned to one of four different dentifrice treatment groups: SnF2 dentifrice A, SnF2 (1,100 ppm F) + sodium fluoride (350 ppm F) + sodium hexametaphosphate (Procter & Gamble); SnF2 dentifrice B, SnF2 (1,100 ppm F) + sodium fluoride (350 ppm F) + citrate (Procter & Gamble); Zn/Arg dentifrice, zinc/arginine + sodium fluoride (1,450 ppm F) (Colgate-Palmolive); negative control dentifrice, sodium monofluoro-phosphate (1,000 ppm F) + sodium fluoride (450 ppm F) (Colgate-Palmolive).

As the most potent cells activating and polarizing naive T cells, dendritic cells (DCs) are of major importance in the induction of immunity and tolerance. DCs are a heterogeneous population of antigen-presenting cells that are widely distributed in lymphoid and nonlymphoid tissues. Murine studies have highlighted the important role of oral DCs and Langerhans cells (LCs) in orchestrating the physiological homeostasis of the oral mucosa.

Study Design: A retrospective study of 662 women referred for pelvic floor dysfunction between January 2017 and August 2018. Participants underwent a standardized interview, clinical exam including Pelvic Organ Prolapse Qualification (POP-Q) assessment, and four-dimensional transperineal ultrasound.

Background: Longer duration of active pushing during labor is associated with a higher rate of operative delivery and an increased risk of maternal and neonatal complications. Although immediate pushing at complete dilatation is associated with lower rates of chorioamnionitis and postpartum hemorrhage, it is also associated with a longer duration of pushing.
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate whether fetal head station and position, as assessed by ultrasound at the beginning of the pushing process, can predict the mode of delivery and duration of pushing in nulliparous women.

The initial events of viral infection at the primary mucosal entry site following horizontal person-to-person transmission have remained ill defined. Our limited understanding is further underscored by the absence of animal models in the case of human-restricted viruses, such as human cytomegalovirus (HCMV), a leading cause of congenital infection and a major pathogen in immunocompromised individuals. Here, we established a novel model of HCMV infection in native human nasal turbinate tissues.

Objectives: To evaluate the agreement between grading of obstetric anal sphincter injuries (OASI) on translabial ultrasound (TLUS), using a newly developed algorithm, and grading on postpartum examination. A secondary aim was to assess the correlation between tear severity, as defined on ultrasound, and symptoms of anal incontinence and/or fecal urgency.
Methods: This was a retrospective study of patients seen at a perineal clinic between 2012 and 2018, after recent primary repair of OASI.
Sepsis is an excessive, dysregulated immune response to infection that activates inflammatory and coagulation cascades, which may lead to tissue injury, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and death. Millions of individuals die annually of sepsis. To date, the only treatment available is antibiotics, drainage of the infection source when possible, and organ support in intensive care units.

Thromboprophylaxis with anticoagulants was shown to be safe and effective in medical patients with high risk to develop VTE. The malignancy potential is correlated with the mechanical deformability of the cancer cells. However, mechanical tests for clinical applications are limited. We present here a Triangular Correlation (TrC) between cell deformability, phagocytic capacity, and cancer aggressiveness, suggesting that phagocytic measurements can be a mechanical surrogate marker of malignancy.

Background: Mutations in GNE cause a recessive, adult onset myopathy characterized by slowly progressive distal and proximal muscle weakness. Knock-in mice carrying the most frequent mutation in GNE myopathy patients, GneM743T/M743T, usually die few days after birth from severe renal failure, with no muscle phenotype. However, a spontaneous sub-colony remains healthy throughout a normal lifespan without any kidney or muscle pathology.

Third-generation-cephalosporin resistant Enterobacteriaceae (3GCR-EB) carriage in pregnant women poses challenges for infection control and therapeutic decisions. The factors associated with multidrug resistant Enterobacteriaceae carriage in the gestational period are not well documented. The aim of our study was to identify risk factors associated with 3GCR-EB isolation in gestational urine cultures.
