Objectives: The authors report the CLASP (Edwards PASCAL Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair System Study) expanded experience, 1-year outcomes, and analysis by functional mitral regurgitation (FMR) and degenerative mitral regurgitation (DMR).

Background: The 30-day results from the CLASP study of the PASCAL transcatheter valve repair system for clinically significant mitral regurgitation (MR) have been previously reported.

The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has strained health care resources around the world, causing many institutions to curtail or stop elective procedures. This has resulted in an inability to care for patients with valvular and structural heart disease in a timely fashion, potentially placing these patients at increased risk for adverse cardiovascular complications, including CHF and death. The effective triage of these patients has become challenging in the current environment, as clinicians have had to weigh the risk of bringing susceptible patients into the hospital environment during the COVID-19 pandemic against the risk of delaying a needed procedure.

Background: Surgical repair of primary mitral regurgitation (MR) is considered an indicator of quality performance. Therefore, accurate data reporting is critical for quality assessment. During an institutional quality review, MR etiology could not be determined in 40% of operations in The Society of Thoracic Surgeons database entries, and therefore our true repair rate could not be reliably ascertained.

Background: Two quality measures used in public reporting and value-based payment programs require β-blockers be administered less than 24 hours before isolated coronary artery bypass graft surgery to prevent atrial fibrillation and mortality. Questions have arisen about continued use of these measures.

Methods: We conducted a systematic search for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining the impact of preoperative β-blockers on atrial fibrillation or mortality after isolated coronary artery bypass graft surgery to determine what evidence of efficacy supports the measures.
