Background: The behavior of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) of the head and neck remains poorly understood. There is much controversy regarding the risk of local and nodal recurrences, as well as individual/environmental factors that increase the risk, such as tumor size, perineural invasion, and the state of the immune system. The objective was to analyze factors influencing local and/or regional lymph node recurrence in patients with cSCC in the head and neck region.

Radiotherapy (RT) for patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) affects vital functions related to the irradiation volume of the head and neck region and, in addition, has a negative impact on social functioning, thereby significantly impairing patients' quality of life (QoL). The aim of this study was to assess changes in the quality of life in patients with head and neck cancer treated with curative RT at 12 months after completion of RT. The aim of this study was to assess the differences between the baseline QoL of patients with early clinical stage HNSCC and at 12 months after curative/radical RT.

Placental abruption is the separation of the placenta from the lining of the uterus before childbirth. It is an infrequent perinatal complication with serious after-effects and a marked risk of maternal and fetal mortality. Despite the fact that numerous placental abruption risk factors are known, the pathophysiology of this issue is multifactorial and not entirely clear.

Prognostic Factors Associated with Successful Salvage Surgery in Recurrent Oral Cancer.

Diagnostics (Basel)

June 2021

The Greater Poland Cancer Center, Department of Head and Neck Surgery, Poznań University of Medical Sciences, Garbary 15, 61-866 Poznań, Poland.

Most patients with recurrent oral cancer are not eligible for salvage surgery. Among those who are candidates for surgical salvage, failure rates are high. Given the potential negative impact of salvage surgery on quality of life (QoL)-particularly in unsuccessful interventions-the decision to operate must be weighed carefully.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the major cause of morbidity/mortality among breast cancer (BC) patients. Observation of the daily practice in eight experienced Polish oncology centers was conducted to find all possible predictors of new cases of heart failure (HF) and overall survival (OS) of metastatic BC patients treated with liposomal doxorubicin, taking into account the impact of pre-existing CVDs. HF was the cause of premature discontinuation of liposomal doxorubicin therapy in 13 (3.

One of the most critical elements in the palatine tonsils (PT) patients' management is to distinguish chronic tonsillitis and malignant tumor. The single-time-point (STP) 2-deoxy-2-[ F]fluoro-D-glucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography ( F-FDG PET/CT) examination offers the most significant sensitivity and specificity in the head and neck (H&N) region evaluation among commonly used methods of imaging. However, introducing dual-time-point (DTP) scanning might improve the specificity and sensitivity of the technique, limited by the F-FDG non-tumor-specific patterns, especially when comparing different metabolic parameters.

Utilizing the TCGA PANCAN12 dataset we discovered that cancer patients with mutations in tumor suppressor and overexpression of oncogene exhibited decreased survival post treatment. Interestingly, in the case of breast cancer patients, this phenomenon correlated with high expression level of several molecular chaperones belonging to the HSPA, DNAJB and HSPC families. To verify the hypothesis that such a genetic background may promote chaperone-mediated chemoresistance, we employed breast and lung cancer cell lines that constitutively overexpressed heat shock proteins and have shown that HSPA1A/HSP70 and DNAJB1/HSP40 facilitated the binding of mutated p53 to the TAp73α protein.
