Introduction: Stanford Type A Aortic Dissection (TAAD) is characterized by a high in-hospital mortality rate and necessitates urgent surgical intervention. While socioeconomic status is known to influence health-care outcomes, its specific association with TAAD remains underexplored. This study aimed to investigate the population-based association between socioeconomic status with TAAD repair outcomes using a national registry.

Implementing eHealth requires technological advancement, universal broadband and internet access, and devices to conduct telemedicine and remote patient monitoring in end-stage kidney disease patients receiving home dialysis. Although eHealth was beginning to make inroads in this patient population, the COVID-19 pandemic spurred telemedicine usage when many regulations were waived during the Public Health Emergency to limit the spread of infection by endorsing social distancing. At the same time, two-way communication automatic peritoneal dialysis cyclers were introduced to advance remote patient monitoring.

Haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare and life-threatening hyperinflammatory syndrome characterised by persistent fevers, cytopenia, hepatosplenomegaly and systemic inflammation. Secondary HLH can be triggered by various aetiologies including infections, malignancies and autoimmune conditions. We highlight the complexity of HLH diagnosis and management by describing a case of an adolescent Salvadoran immigrant with HLH, newly diagnosed HIV, and disseminated histoplasmosis.

Background: Cervical spine injuries in children are uncommon but potentially devastating; however, indiscriminate neck imaging after trauma unnecessarily exposes children to ionising radiation. The aim of this study was to derive and validate a paediatric clinical prediction rule that can be incorporated into an algorithm to guide radiographic screening for cervical spine injury among children in the emergency department.
Methods: In this prospective observational cohort study, we screened children aged 0-17 years presenting with known or suspected blunt trauma at 18 specialised children's emergency departments in hospitals in the USA affiliated with the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN).

Objectives: Colonic volvulus is a common cause of bowel obstructions and surgery is the definitive treatment. Functional status is often associated with adverse postoperative outcomes but its effect on colectomy for volvulus remained under-explored. This study sought to analyze the effect of functional status on the 30-day outcomes of colectomy for volvulus.

Introduction: Exhaled nitric oxide fraction (FeNO) is employed for the diagnosis and phenotyping of asthma as an inflammatory biomarker of the airway. Limited evidence exists regarding its behavior in the presence of asthma and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Our objective was to determine whether FeNO levels are associated with the severity of OSA or the coexistence of asthma and OSA in residents at high altitudes.

Background: Stanford Type A Aortic Dissection (TAAD) is an emergent condition with high in-hospital mortality. Gender disparity in TAAD has been a topic of ongoing debate. This study aimed to conduct a population-based examination of gender disparities in short-term TAAD outcomes using the National/Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database, the largest all-payer database in the US.

Importance: Research is beginning to elucidate the sophisticated mechanisms underlying the microbiota-gut-brain-immune interface, moving from primarily animal models to human studies. Findings support the dynamic relationships between the gut microbiota as an ecosystem (microbiome) within an ecosystem (host) and its intersection with the host immune and nervous systems. Adding this to the effects on epigenetic regulation of gene expression further complicates and strengthens the response.

Background: Metastasis is a hallmark for cancer progression. While patients with metastatic cancer (MC) have higher risk profiles, outcomes of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in these patients have not been established, likely due to their smaller representation in the CABG patient population. This study aimed to examine the short-term outcomes of patients with MC who underwent CABG.
