Purpose: To investigate sex disparities in 30-day postoperative outcomes of total elbow arthroplasty.
Methods: The American College of Surgeons-National Surgical Quality Improvement Program files were queried for all patients who underwent a total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) between 2006 and 2020. Sex disparities in preoperative variables were studied using Fisher exact tests.

Background: Thermal and chemical ablation techniques may consolidate recurrent metastatic cervical lymph nodes as alternatives to repeat neck dissection in thyroid cancer patients. This meta-analysis aims to compare the efficacy and safety across modalities.
Methods: Four databases were searched for studies on radiofrequency (RFA), microwave (MWA), laser (LA), and ethanol ablation (EA) treating metastatic cervical nodes from thyroid cancer.

Objectives: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of pediatric morbidity and mortality. This study first investigates clinical characteristics and continuous electroencephalography (cEEG) parameters associated with short-term functional outcomes in pediatric patients following TBI. Second, we use these data for a hypothesis-generating model about outcomes.

Introduction: Prior studies have shown human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) may be a risk factor for early revision following THA, but little data exists looking at long-term implant survivorship. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare the 10-year cumulative incidence rate for revision following THA in patients with and without HIV.
Methods: A retrospective cohort analysis of patients with HIV undergoing elective THA was conducted using a national database.

Public health emergencies, including climate-related and manmade disasters such as active shooter incidents, occur regularly in the United States. A comprehensive approach is needed to ensure that children's mental health needs are adequately addressed following disasters. This article summarizes the latest evidence on how health systems can effectively address children's unique developmental, social, emotional, and behavioral needs in the context of disasters.

Critical congenital heart disease (CCHD) screening was added to the US Recommended Uniform Screening Panel in 2011 and adopted by all US states and territories by 2018. In addition to reviewing key developments in CCHD screening since the initial American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) endorsement in 2011, this clinical report provides 3 updated recommendations. First, a new AAP algorithm has been endorsed for use in CCHD screening.

Post-operative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is standard of care to evaluate for residual disease and quality of surgical repair. The residual lesion score (RLS) as defined by the pediatric heart network explored the impact of residual lesions on outcomes using discharge transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE). In tetralogy of fallot with pulmonary stenosis (TOF/PS), the residual right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) gradient is one marker of quality of repair.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the impact of systemic medications, including GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs), fenofibrates, thiazolidinediones (TZDs), and calcium channel blockers (CCBs), on the risk of developing diabetic macular edema (DME) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Design: A retrospective cohort study was conducted using electronic medical records (EMR) data from the TriNetX health research network, covering a period from October 2004-2024.
Participants: The study population comprised patients diagnosed with T2DM who were newly initiated on GLP-1 RAs, fenofibrates, TZDs, or CCBs.
Background: Depression has a high prevalence among patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). However, there is a scarcity of literature on the association between preoperative depression and CABG outcomes. This study aimed to explore the effects of preoperative major depression disorder (MDD) on in-hospital outcomes following CABG.

Background: Disparities have been shown in the outcomes of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in racial minorities. Although Native Americans are known to have a higher risk for cardiovascular diseases, the current literature on CABG outcomes for Native Americans remains notably limited, probably due to their limited population size. Thus, this study aimed to investigate racial disparities in CABG outcomes among Native Americans.

Background: Diagnostic reasoning is a complex cognitive process that requires intuitive, heuristic processing from knowledge and experience, as well as deliberate and reflective thinking. Evidence on interventions to improve diagnostic reasoning is inconsistent, in part because different terms and models are used to guide research.
Purpose: To present a model of the factors of diagnostic reasoning in Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), based on a review of the literature supporting the Metacognitive Diagnostic Reasoning (MDR) Model © .

Background: While clinical overlap between Kawasaki disease (KD) and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) has been evident, information regarding those presenting with shock has been limited. We sought to determine associations with shock within and between diagnosis groups.
Methods: The International KD Registry enrolled contemporaneous patients with either KD or MIS-C from 39 sites in 7 countries from 01/2020 to 01/2023.

Turner syndrome was recognized nearly 90 years ago as a distinctive condition and the understanding of pathophysiology, and phenotype has incrementally and substantially changed along with the goals of treatment. Today, multidisciplinary care is imperative, and the latest international consensus guideline has been crafted as a source of comprehensive practical recommendations for interdisciplinary care of individuals with Turner syndrome throughout their lifespan. We review the evolution of health care in Turner syndrome while highlighting the novel recommendations in the recently published international consensus guideline for the care of girls and women with Turner syndrome.

Background: Mastectomy skin flap ischemia is a well-known postoperative complication following mastectomy and breast reconstruction. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has shown promising results for reducing the adverse effects associated with mastectomy skin flap ischemia and associated necrosis; however, there is paucity of literature regarding the indications for HBOT following breast cancer surgery. This study aimed to assess HBOT efficacy in treating and mitigating complications from postoperative tissue ischemia.

Objective: Burnout is highly prevalent among residents, and although many studied interventions have targeted burnout by trying to promote well-being, it remains a substantial problem. This study utilized data from the Pediatric Resident Burnout-Resilience Study Consortium (PRB-RSC) Annual Burnout Survey to determine which program interventions categorical and non-categorical (medicine-pediatrics and combined programs) pediatric residents found most helpful to promote well-being.
Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of an open-ended question on the PRB-RSC Annual Burnout Survey in 2019 and 2020: "What is the most helpful thing that your program provides you for wellness?" We performed thematic and content analysis on open-ended responses and compared distribution of themes and subthemes between years using a Chi-squared test.
