Protein phosphorylation regulates many steps in the cell division process including cytokinesis. In the fission yeast , the anillin-like protein Mid1 sets the cell division plane and is regulated by phosphorylation. Multiple protein kinases act on Mid1, but no protein phosphatases have been shown to regulate Mid1.

Background: Virtual interviews are still recommended for fellowship applications, 3 years after the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Improving equity by reducing the cost for the applicants has been the most important reason for continuing virtual interviews. However, some argue that important information may be missed in a virtual setting.

This treatment modality delivers controlled electrical currents (typically no more than 100 J) under general anesthesia to induce seizure. Although generally considered to have a high safety profile, physiological changes induced during the ictal phase of ECT, such as elevation in blood pressure and intracranial pressure, impose additional risks to patients with concomitant cardiovascular or cerebrovascular conditions.

Context: Early palliative care referral is recommended broadly in oncology. Yet, few patients with high-grade gliomas (HGG) - highly aggressive brain tumors - receive specialty palliative care consultation.
Objectives: To delineate unique needs of HGG patients relative to other oncology patients according to perceptions of a diverse sample of US palliative medicine physicians and neuro-oncologists in each of the eight domains of palliative care; and to describe contrasts between physician specialties on indications for and timing of specialty palliative care referrals in HGG.

, an important intracellular parasite of humans and animals, causes life-threatening toxoplasmosis in immunocompromised individuals. Although secretory proteins during acute infection (tachyzoite, which divides rapidly and causes inflammation) have been extensively characterized, those involved in chronic infection (bradyzoite, which divides slowly and is surrounded by a cyst wall) remain uncertain. Regulation of the cyst wall is essential to the parasite life cycle, and polysaccharides, such as chitin, in the cyst wall are necessary to sustain latent infection.

Background: In response to a growing need for accessible, efficient, and effective palliative care services, we designed, implemented, and evaluated a novel palliative care at home (PC@H) model for people with serious illness that is centered around a community health worker, a registered nurse, and a social worker, with an advanced practice nurse and a physician for support. Our objectives were to measure the impact of receipt of PC@H on patient symptoms, quality of life, and healthcare utilization and costs.
Methods: We enrolled 136 patients with serious illness in this parallel, randomized controlled trial.

Background: Metoidioplasty and phalloplasty gender-affirming surgery (MaPGAS) is increasingly performed and requires patients to make complex decisions that may lead to decisional uncertainty. This study aimed to evaluate decisional conflict in individuals considering MaPGAS.
Methods: We administered a cross-sectional survey to adult participants assigned female sex at birth and considering MaPGAS, recruited via social media platforms and community health centers.

In a 7-year 11-wave study of low-SES adolescents (N = 856, age = 15.98), we compared multiple well-established transdiagnostic risk factors as predictors of first incidence of significant depressive, anxiety, and substance abuse symptoms across the transition from adolescence to adulthood. Risk factors included negative emotionality, emotion regulation ability, social support, gender, history of trauma, parental histories of substance abuse, parental mental health, and socioeconomic status.

Background: Recruitment and retention are common challenges in clinical trials, particularly with older adults and their caregivers who often benefit from palliative care but have significant strain from caregiving. In recent years, there has been an expansion in home-based palliative care programs, especially for patients with dementia. Because these programs often rely on physicians or advanced practice nurses, they are quite costly and may be difficult to staff due to workforce shortages.

Bochdalek hernias are a rare occurrence in adults and usually asymptomatic, resulting in incidental discovery. However, surgical intervention is recommended for both symptomatic and asymptomatic Bochdalek hernias due to the risk of acute morbidity and mortality. There are various possible surgical approaches that may be appropriate depending on the circumstance, with robotic repair becoming increasingly popular.

Objectives: Total pancreatectomy with islet autotransplantation (TPIAT) is performed to improve the quality of life (QOL) of patients with chronic pancreatitis. Few reports have documented QOL following TPIAT, with none using the pancreatitis-specific Pancreatitis Quality of Life Instrument (PANQOLI). We surveyed patients at our center who underwent TPIAT to document postoperative QOL.

Objectives: This study explored the experiences and acceptability of a novel, home-based, walking exercise behaviour-change intervention (MOtivating Structured walking Activity in people with Intermittent Claudication (MOSAIC)) in adults with Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD).
Design And Setting: Individual semi-structured audio-recorded interviews were conducted with adults with Peripheral Arterial Disease who had completed the MOSAIC intervention as part of a randomised clinical trial. Data were analysed using inductive reflexive thematic analysis and interpreted using the seven-construct theoretical framework of acceptability of healthcare interventions (TFA).

Background: Patients with heart failure (HF) and colorectal cancer (CRC) are prone to comorbidity, a high rate of readmission, and complex healthcare needs. Self-care for people with HF and CRC after hospitalisation can be challenging, and patients may leave the hospital unprepared to self-manage their disease at home. eHealth solutions may be a beneficial tool to engage patients in self-care.
