Background: Pulmonary sarcomatoid carcinoma (PSC) is a rare lung cancer characterized by early metastasis and invasion. It is predominantly diagnosed at a locally advanced or metastatic stage, hindering the possibility of surgical intervention. However, a standard treatment for advanced PSC remains unestablished.

Background: Several studies reported the sterol ester (SE), a subclass of subtype of cholesterol ester (CE), is associated with the incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC). Nevertheless, the causal relationship of SE on CRC remains unknown.

Methods: A two-sample Mendelian randomization study was performed with the summary statistics of SE (27:1/14:0) which is from the largest available genome-wide association study meta-analysis(n = 377277) conducted by FinnGen consortium.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to perform a meta-analysis comparing the short-term and long-term outcomes in laparoscopic groin hernia repair with or without preservation of the uterine round ligament (URL) in females.

Methods: We searched several databases including PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and and CNKI databases. This meta-analysis included randomized clinical trials, and retrospective comparative studies regarding preservation or division of the URL in laparoscopic groin hernia repair in females.

Background: The efficacy of laparoscopic surgery (LS) for the treatment of colonoscopic perforation is still controversial. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of LS versus open surgery (OS) for colonoscopic perforation.

Methods: All clinical trials that compared laparoscopic with OS for colonoscopic perforation published in English were identified in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library searches.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how Osteopontin (OPN) influences macroautophagy, autophagy, and neuroplasticity in the brain after a stroke.
  • Researchers induced a focal stroke in mice and assessed the effects of OPN on motor function, neuroplasticity markers, and autophagy-related proteins.
  • Results showed that OPN treatment improved motor function and enhanced neural repair by increasing key proteins involved in synaptic plasticity and autophagy, suggesting OPN might be a new therapeutic approach for stroke recovery.

Background: To evaluate the effect of oral anticoagulants (OACs) therapy, including vitamin K antagonist (VKA) and direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) in patients with pulmonary diseases.

Methods: Literature from PubMed, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library were screened until June 2022. Studies assessing OACs for pulmonary hypertension (PH), pulmonary embolism (PE), pulmonary fibrosis (PF), or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) were evaluated for inclusion.

A large number of studies have shown that the arrhythmia risks may be the potential causes of death among chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. However, the association of COPD with risks of arrhythmias has never been systematically reviewed. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to assess the relationship between COPD and arrhythmia risks.

The aim of this study was to investigate the expression of phosphatase of regenerating live-3 (PRL-3) in human stage III colorectal cancer (CRC) and to evaluate its correlation with metachronous liver metastasis (MLM) and prognosis. The retrospective cohort study included 116 stage III CRC primary tumors and 60 normal colorectal tissues. PRL-3 expression was measured by immunohistochemistry.

Ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury causes cardiac dysfunction through several mechanisms including the irregular expression of some long noncoding RNA. However, the role of SNHG12 in myocardial I/R injury remains unclear. Here, we found the increase of the SNHG12 level in hypoxia-reoxygenation (H/R)-injured-H9c2 cells.

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, the Ganzhou people's Hospital, Ganzhou of Jiangxi, Ganzhou, China.

Background: Several studies have suggested that chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) could be predictive of the prognosis in patients with heart failure (HF), but yield conflicting findings. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis to examine the impact of COPD on adverse outcomes in patients with HF.

Methods: We systematically searched the databases of PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, Cochrane library from inception to August 2020 for the relevant studies.

Introduction: Serological markers are important in the diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and other connective tissues diseases This study explored the clinical value of collagen triple helix repeat containing-1 (CTHRC1) and 14-3-3η protein, compared to routine markers, in the diagnosis of RA.

Methods: We recruited 103 RA patients, 105 non-RA patients (osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus) and 59 healthy controls. CTHRC1, 14-3-3η, anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody (anti-CCP), anti-mutated citrullinated vimentin antibody (anti-MCV), rheumatoid factor and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) levels were measured, and their diagnostic value for RA evaluated and compared.

Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) and ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy (UGFS) have largely replaced traditional surgery for treatment of varicose veins (VVs) with active venous leg ulcers (VLUs), and multiple combined modes have emerged. A retrospective cohort study was performed to compare the effect of traditional surgery (high ligation and stripping followed with compression [compression plus HL-S]) to high ligation-endovenous laser ablation-foam sclerotherapy followed with compression (compression plus HL-EVLA-FS) on the treatment of active VLUs.Data of active VLUs treated in our center from 2008 to 2017 and followed up for 1 year were analyzed.
