Electronic address:

The abnormal proliferation and hypertrophy of adipocytes mediate the expansion of adipose tissue and then cause obesity-related diseases. Theoretically, an approach for preventing and curing obesity is to inhibit cell proliferation during the mitotic clonal expansion (MCE) progression of adipocyte differentiation. Polycyclic polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols (PPAPs) are mainly found from Hypericum and Garcinia genus, which have been reported to have various biological activities such as anti-depressant, anti-oxidant, and anti-tumor.

Esophageal-gastric variceal bleeding occurs in 5-15% of patients with liver cirrhosis annually, and the mortality rate is as high as 20% within 6 weeks of the first bleed. The more compromised the liver function, the higher the mortality. Effective control of bleeding is pivotal for reducing mortality in patients with liver cirrhosis.

Overexpression of VPS16 correlates with tumor progression and chemoresistance in colorectal cancer.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

June 2022

Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, The Second Hospital, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, China. Electronic address:

Vacuolar protein sorting-associated protein 16 homolog (VPS16) is a central member of the VPS core complex (VPS-C) and is reported to function as a tether protein involved in membrane fusion. However, a biological role for VPS16 in tumors remains largely unknown. Herein, we demonstrated that VPS16 was overexpressed in colorectal cancer (CRC) as revealed by qRT-PCR, western blotting, and immunohistochemical analyses.

Purpose: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) may act as oncogenes in small-cell lung cancer (SCLC). Exosomes containing lncRNAs released from cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAF) accelerate tumorigenesis and confer chemoresistance. This study aimed to explore the action mechanism of the CAF-derived lncRNA maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3) on cisplatin (DDP) chemoresistance and cell processes in SCLC.

June 2022

Department of Medical Aesthetics, Xianyang Hospital of Yan'an University, Xianyang, Shaanxi, China. Electronic address:

Introduction: The wound is known as damage to the skin structure by external stimuli, such as cut, bruises, and burn, which typically leaves the internal tissue exposed. The wound repair process when hampered leads to an excessive burden on the healthcare setting. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop effective agents that can promote the wound healing process.

Cardiac Conduction Velocity, Remodeling and Arrhythmogenesis.

Cells

October 2021

Institute for Experimental Cardiovascular Medicine, University Heart Center Freiburg-Bad Krozingen, 79110 Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.

Cardiac electrophysiological disorders, in particular arrhythmias, are a key cause of morbidity and mortality throughout the world. There are two basic requirements for arrhythmogenesis: an underlying substrate and a trigger. Altered conduction velocity (CV) provides a key substrate for arrhythmogenesis, with slowed CV increasing the probability of re-entrant arrhythmias by reducing the length scale over which re-entry can occur.

October 2021

Biomedical Sciences College & Shandong Medicinal Biotechnology Centre, Key Lab for Biotech-Drugs of National Health Commission, Key Lab for Rare & Uncommon Diseases of Shandong Province, Shandong First Medical University & Shandong Academy of Medical Sciences, Jinan 250002, China.

Objective: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is still the principal treatment option for prostate cancer (PCa). In addition to reactivation of androgen receptor signaling, the resistance of PCa to apoptosis during ADT also contributes to castration resistant PCa (CRPC). A previous study reported that gene transfer of IL-13Rα2 into PCa cells sensitized the cells to the IL-13R-targeted cytotoxin IL13Rα1, leading to apoptosis.
