Objectives: This investigation explored the mechanism by which the total flavonoids of (P.Beauv.) Spring (TFST) mitigate oxidative stress through the activation of the heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) signaling pathway mediated by nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), thereby ameliorating acute lung injury (ALI) induced by diabetes.

To investigate the effects of patellar denervation (PD) and non-patellar denervation (NPD) after primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) without patellar resurfacing, this study conducted systematic electronic searches in November 2023 using PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane, and Scopus, adhering to Cochrane Collaboration recommendations. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included. Additionally, a manual search was performed to identify potentially eligible studies from the reference lists of review articles.

Background: The proximal femoral nail anti-rotation (PFNA) with cement enhancement enhances the anchorage ability of internal fixation in elderly with osteoporotic intertrochanteric fracture. However, whether it is superior to hemiarthroplasty is still controversial. The present study aimed to determine which treatment has better clinical outcomes among older patients.

Objective: To investigate the maximum anti-pullout force and stress distribution of cortical bone trajectory (CBT) screws during screw pullout after contacting different cortical bone layers by finite element analysis (FEA) based on Abaqus software, and to provide evidence for increasing screw holding force during CBT screw implantation in clinical practice.
Methods: Based on the plain CT data of lumbar spine of a healthy male volunteer who visited the Fourth People's Hospital of Guiyang in June 2022, and the standard screw parameters according to cortical bone trajectory screws. A three-dimensional model of L4 vertebral body and CBT screw was established.

Fracture is one of the most common traumatic diseases in clinical practice, and metal plates have always been the first choice for fracture treatment because of their high strength. However, the bone plates have high elastic modulus and do not match the biomechanics of human bone, which adversely affects callus formation and fracture healing. Moreover, the complex microenvironment in the human body can induce corrosion of metallic materials and release toxic ions, which reduces the biocompatibility of the bone plate, and may necessitate surgical removal of the implant.

As BFRs have gradually been banned recently, organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs) have been manufactured and used in their place. Although OPFRs are considered the better alternatives to BFRs, many studies have discovered that OPFRs may be associated with various cancers, including prostate cancer, bladder cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and colorectal cancer. However, few studies have examined the relationship between OPFRs and gliomas.

Background: Esketamine is favored in clinical settings. Relative to other anesthetics it preserves protective airway reflexes, maintains spontaneous respiration, stabilizes hemodynamics, and alleviates neuropathic pain. This study sought to evaluate the cardiac safety of esketamine at 3 sub-anesthetic gradient concentrations.

Background: To determine the effects of post-treatment electroacupuncture (EA) on the electrophysiological properties of ventricular muscle in rats with ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury.
Methods: Male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly assigned into sham-operated (SH), IR and IR + EA groups ( = 8 each). The IR model was generated by ligation of the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery for 30 min.

Rib fracture is the most common injury in chest trauma. Most of patients with rib fractures were treated conservatively, but up to 50% of patients, especially those with combined injury such as flail chest, presented chronic pain or chest wall deformities, and more than 30% had long-term disabilities, unable to retain a full-time job. In the past two decades, surgery for rib fractures has achieving good outcomes.

Background/objective: Hip dysfunction in young population caused by developmental dysplasia of the hip, congenital hip deformity or femur head necrosis severely affect the quality of life of young patients, and total hip replacement is the current widely accepted standard therapy for hip function reconstruction in adults, but not for young patients. Alternative safe and effective surgical method for hip function preservation/reconstruction for young patients is lacking. Ilizarov hip reconstruction osteotomy was an alternative method for preserving hip function but the surgical procedures were rather complicated using discomforting ring fixation at the hip region that prevents its wider acceptance and application.

Objective: Osteoarthritis (OA) is characterized by progressive matrix destruction of articular cartilage. This study aimed to investigate the potential antioxidative and chondroprotective effects and underlying mechanism of Icariin (ICA) in interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β)-induced extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation of OA cartilage.
Methods: Human chondrocyte cell line HC-A was treated with different doses of ICA, and then MTT assay and PI staining were used to estimate ICA-induced chondrocyte apoptosis.

We treated a 15-year-old female patient with fracture of the post-lateral femoral condyle and the bone shifted in front of the knee. Considering that the traditional surgical approach has the shortcomings of significant trauma and poor prognosis, we designed an arthroscopic procedure, which achieved satisfactory short-term efficacy, effectively reduced and fixed the fractures, avoided damage to vascular nerves, and maximally reduced the trauma caused by surgery itself.

Objective: To design a new extracorporeal reduction device for percutaneous pedicle screw fixation of thoracolumbar fractures (short for "new reduction device"), and to evaluate its effectiveness.
Methods: According to the mechanism of thoracolumbar fractures and biomechanics characteristic of reduction, a new reduction device was designed and used in a combination with long U-shaped hollow pedicle screw system. Between January 2014 and January 2016, 36 patients (group A) with single segment thoracolumbar fracture without neurological complications underwent percutaneous pedicle screw fixation, and the clinical data were compared with those of another 39 patients (group B) with thoracolumbar fracture underwent traditional open pedicle screw fixation.

By using a series of type-specific primers for Plasmodium vivax circumsporozoite protein (CSP) gene and nested PCR, genotyping was conducted for the specimens of Plasmodium vivax isolated from China-Myanmar border. In 174 isolates of P. vivax, four genotypes, namely, tropical zone family strain, temperate zone family strain, genotype-mixed infection and PV-II type, were identified each accounting for 54.

This study was conducted to investigate whether in vitro chondrogenic differentiated human adipose-derived stem cells (hASCs) can maintain the chondrogenic phenotype in (3-hydroxybutrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) (PHBV) scaffolds and whether differentiated hASCs/PHBV construct can produce neocartilage in a heterotopic animal model. hASCs were cultured with or without chondrogenic media in vitro and then seeded on PHBV foams. Differentiated cell/PHBV constructs were subcutaneously implanted in nude mice for 8 or 16 weeks; nondifferentiated cell/PHBV constructs were implanted in the control group.
