Staphylococcal enterotoxins (SEs) serve as the primary cause of staphylococcal food poisoning and other foodborne intoxications. Among them, staphylococcal enterotoxin C (SEC) has the highest prevalence in dairy products, leading to multiple outbreaks all around the world. Thus, it is of great significance to develop a highly sensitive, highly specific and easy to operate chemiluminescent sandwich enzyme immunoassay (CLEIA) for detecting staphylococcal enterotoxin C (SEC1).

Background: Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is increasingly being recognized as an advantageous alternative for treating non-union due to its efficacy and minimal associated complications. Non-union following Bernese periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) is particularly challenging, with a reported 55% delayed union and 8% non-union. Herein, we highlight a unique case of ischial non-union post-PAO treated successfully with a structured ESWT regimen.

Purpose: Intramedullary nailing is the preferred internal fixation technique for the treatment of subtrochanteric fractures because of its biomechanical advantages. However, no definitive conclusion has been reached regarding whether combined cable cerclage is required during intramedullary nailing treatment. This study is performed to compare the clinical effects of intramedullary nailing with cerclage and non-cerclage wiring in the treatment of irreducible spiral subtrochanteric fractures.

Water-soluble rhamnogalacturonan-I enriched citrus pectin (WRP) has promising effect on antimicrobial defense. We aim to determine whether the modified acidic (A) or neutral (B) WRP solutions can improve intestinal microbial dysbiosis in burn-injured mice. Male Balb/c mice were gavaged with WRPs at 80, 160, 320 mg/kg.

Background: The widespread use of vaccines against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has become one of the most effective means to establish a population immune barrier. Patients with cancer are vulnerable to COVID-19 infection, adverse events, and high mortality, and should be the focus of epidemic prevention and treatment. However, real-world data on the safety of vaccines for patients with breast cancer are still scarce.

Background: This study evaluates the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (US-FNA) and core needle biopsy (US-CNB) for detecting axillary lymph nodes in women with breast cancer.
Methods: Eligible studies and pertinent literature resources were identified in Cochrane, PubMed, Embase, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang databases using subject-specific keywords. Study outcomes were tested for heterogeneity, and meta-analyses were performed to estimate sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic odds ratios (DORs).

Background: Due to the onset of sudden stress, COVID-19 has greatly impacted the incidence of depression and anxiety. However, challenges still exist in identifying high-risk groups for depression and anxiety during COVID-19. Studies have identified how resilience and social support can be employed as effective predictors of depression and anxiety.

Background: Several studies have indicated possible associations between age and the prognosis of breast cancer (BC), but limited data are available from hospital-based multicenter studies in China. This study aimed to explore the associations between age at initial diagnosis of BC and the risk of recurrence or metastasis among Chinese women with newly diagnosed advanced breast cancer (ABC) and provide treatment decision support for BC patients of different ages to medical workers.
Methods: The medical records of patients newly diagnosed with ABC were obtained from 21 hospitals in seven geographic regions in China from 2012 to 2014.

There is a great deal of interest in the development of nanoparticles for biomedicine. The question of how many nanoparticles are taken up by cells is important for biomedical applications. Here, we describe a fluorescence method for the quantitative measurement of the cellular uptake of polymer dots (Pdots) and a further estimation of intracellular Pdots photosensitizer for fluorescence imaging and photodynamic therapy.

Reprogrammed glucose metabolism is vital for cancer cells, but aspartate, an intermediate metabolic product, is the limiting factor for cancer cell proliferation. However, due to the complexity of metabolic pathways, it remains unclear whether glucose is the primary source of endogenous aspartate. Here, we report the design of an innovative molecular deactivator, based on a multifunctional upconversion nanoprobe, to explore the link between glucose and aspartate.

Objective: Bernese periacetabular osteotomy (PAO), an effective treatment for patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), is characterized by wide exposure, cancellous bone surgery, and difficult techniques. In addition, the hip joint is deep and of rich muscles and neurovascular supply, which significantly increases bleeding. For patients who had combined proximal femoral osteotomy (PFO), the blood loss may be tremendous.
