Resveratrol is originally extracted from huzhang, a Chinese herbal medicine. Recently, resveratrol has attracted a great of attention due to its antioxidant and antiapoptotic properties. Although the neuroprotection of resveratrol on neural damages in various models has been well characterized, little is known about the role of resveratrol in methamphetamine (MA) induced neurotoxicity in mesencephalic dopaminergic neurons.

Objective: Using a network meta-analysis, we aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of tacrolimus and pimecrolimus as treatment options for children with atopic dermatitis (AD).
Methods: Randomized controlled studies with a modified Jadad score >3 using tacrolimus or pimecrolimus in pediatric patients with AD were studied.
Results: Out of 163 articles, 19 studies enrolling a total of 6,413 pediatric patients were selected.

Objective: To estimate the diagnostic accuracy of the anti-CCP test in JIA and to evaluate factors associated with higher accuracy.
Methods: Two investigators performed an extensive search of the literature published between January 2000 and January 2014. The included articles were assessed by the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies tool.

Aims: Diabetes surgery is growing in popularity and has been shown to have marked effects on diabetes. However, several studies have shown it may induce some renal injury, and, currently, the impact of diabetes surgery on renal function is unclear. In this study, we examined renal function and histological changes in rats with diabetic nephropathy (DN) following a duodeno-jejunal bypass (DJB) operation.

The objective of the present study was to investigate the anticancer activity of Chinese medicine Caulis Spatholobi extract on multicentric osteosarcoma cells. Ultraviolet spectrophotometry was used to determine the total flavonoid content in each sample; vanillin sulphuric acid assay was used to determine the condensed tannin content in each sample; and the varying degrees of inhibitory activities of ethanol, ethyl acetate and n-butanol extracts of Caulis Spatholobi on human osteosarcoma Saos-2 cells were studied. The results showed that the inhibitory activity of ethyl acetate extract was the highest among the four extracts.

Objective: To study the polymorphism of angiotensin-type 1 receptor (AT1R) gene A1166C in familial primary hypertension and its distribution in Han Yellow race of China.
Methods: One hundred and four hypertensive patients with no family history, 178 hypertensive patients with familial history, and 150 healthy adults were randomly selected to participate in a prospective clinical trial, and genetype detection by standard polymerase chain reaction methods and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) in trials. The study was carried out between October 2009 and November 2010 at Jinan Center for Cardiovascular Disease, Affiliated Hospital of Taishan Medical College, Jinan, China.

Background: Recent studies suggest that endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) is the key process in ischemic brain injury. The JNK pathway is also involved in the process of ischemic brain injury.
Method: We established a middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R) model in rats; detected the changes in c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), GADD153 and caspase-12 at different reperfusion time points by immunohistochemistry, Western blot and double-label immunofluorescence; and observed the effect of JNK inhibitor SP600125 on the expression of JNK, GADD153 and caspase-12 to explore the relationship between the endoplasmic reticulum road and JNK pathway.

Unlike common malignant tumors, malignant pheochromocytomas cannot be definitely diagnosed using histological features. This unique nature of pheochromocytomas provides a valuable model that may promote the investigation of the mechanism of other common malignant tumors where similar frameworks are not available. Studies on malignant pheochromocytomas should benefit not only the individuals with pheochromocytomas but those with other tumors.

It is well known that no single histological feature is diagnostic for malignant pheochromocytomas (PCCs). So we developed a logistic model based on a series of clinical and pathological features to predict malignance in PCCs, and evaluated its diagnostic performance. In all 130 cases with malignant or benign PCCs, 15 predictive variables were observed and entered in the logistic regression analysis in a backward stepwise way.

Objective: To examine whether urotensinII (UII) induces hypertrophy of neonatal rat cardiomyocytes cultured in vitro.
Methods: The primary cardiac myocytes cultured for 40 h followed by further culture in serum-free media for another 24 h were subjected to exposure to UII of varied concentrations for 24 h, after which the changes in the size of the cells were analyzed by flow cytometry with (3)H-leucine incorporation also measured.
Results: At the concentration of 1x10(-7) mol/L, UIIcould increase the size of the cultured cardiac myocardial cells (P=0.
