The tryptophan (TRP)-kynurenine (KYN) pathway is involved in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. This study aimed to investigate the levels of TRP-KYN metabolites in serum and urine of patients with first-episode schizophrenia (FES) and their association with clinical manifestations. This study included 38 drug-naive patients with FES and 43 healthy controls (HCs).

The demand for pediatric anesthesia has risen in decades, raising concerns about the neurotoxic potential of anesthetics like remimazolam, which may impact neurodevelopment and later cognitive function. This study utilized a neonatal mouse model to assess remimazolam's neurodevelopmental effects. Results indicate that remimazolam-exposed mice displayed cognitive impairment and depressive behaviors in adulthood.

Peritoneal metastasis in gastric cancer is associated with rapid disease progression. Hyperthermic intraoperative peritoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) done immediately after cytoreductive surgery (CRS) has become an important treatment for peritoneal metastasis in gastric cancer patients. However, different treatment options for HIPEC exist with potential influence on survival rates and prognosis in patients, exist.

Objectives: To assess the value of serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist-Ⅱ (PIVKA-Ⅱ) and glypican-3 (GPC-3) in the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Methods: Studies of AFP, PIVKA-Ⅱ, GPC-3 or in combination for the diagnosis of HCC since 2002 were searched in PubMed, Web of Science and Embase databases. The literature was screened according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the quality of the included articles was evaluated by QUADAS checklist, and relevant data were extracted by Meta DiSc, Review Manager 5.

Atrazine is a ubiquitous herbicide with persistent environmental presence and accumulation in the food chain, posing potential health hazards to organisms. Increasing evidence suggests that atrazine may have detrimental effects on various organ systems, including the nervous, digestive, and immune systems. However, the specific toxicity and underlying mechanism of atrazine-induced cardiac injury remain obscure.

Introduction: Several studies have examined the risk factors for post-percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) refractures and developed many clinical prognostic models. However, no prior research exists using the Random Forest (RF) model, a favored tool for model development, to predict the occurrence of new vertebral compression fractures (NVCFs). Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the risk factors for the occurrence of post-PKP fractures, compare the predictive performance of logistic regression and RF models in forecasting post-PKP fractures, and visualize the logistic regression model.

Osteoporosis is a prevalent complication of diabetes, characterized by systemic metabolic impairment of bone mass and microarchitecture, particularly in the spine. Anemarrhenae Rhizoma/Phellodendri Chinensis Cortex (AR/PCC) herb pair has been extensively employed in Traditional Chinese Medicine to manage diabetes; however, its potential to ameliorate diabetic osteoporosis (DOP) has remained obscure. Herein, we explored the protective efficacy of AR/PCC herb pair against DOP using a streptozotocin (STZ)-induced rat diabetic model.

Lactate and tumor cell-derived extracellular vesicles (TEVs) both contribute to tumor progression. However, it is still unclear whether lactate can accelerate tumor development by directly promoting TEV production. Here, we show that lactate decreases intracellular cAMP levels and subsequent PKA activation GPR81, which inhibits the PKA-induced ubiquitination of HIF-1α that causes degradation.

Acquired resistance to osimertinib is inevitable and heterogeneous despite its documented efficacy against EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Subsequent therapeutic options assume the dominant form of the resistance mechanism; however, the more rare oncogenic driver, NTRK1 fusion, has also reportedly conferred osimertinib resistance. Nevertheless, clear-cut options when NSCLCs are driven by EGFR mutation and the subsequent NTRK fusion are lacking.

Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration (IVDD) which is highly prevalent within the elderly population, is a leading cause of chronic low back pain and disability. Nucleus pulposus (NP) cell senescence plays an indispensable role in the pathogenesis of IVDD. Morroniside is a major iridoid glycoside and one of the quality control metrics of Cornus officinalis Siebold & Zucc (CO).

Interstitial lung diseases (ILDs) are common respiratory diseases with limited treatment options and poor prognoses. Early and accurate diagnosis of ILD is challenging and requires a multidisciplinary discussion. We report a 32-year-old patient admitted to our hospital with cough and increasing dyspnea on exertion.

Introduction: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the diagnostic value of fibrinogen (FB) for acute appendicitis and whether it can distinguish between uncomplicated and complicated appendicitis.
Methods: A search of electronic information sources was conducted to identify all studies reporting FB in patients with clinical suspicion or confirmed diagnosis of acute appendicitis. We considered two comparisons: (1) appendicitis versus no appendicitis and (2) uncomplicated appendicitis versus complicated appendicitis.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is one of the most common cancer worldwide and seriously threats public health safety. Despite the improvement of diagnostic and treatment methods, the overall survival for advanced patients has not improved yet. This study aimed to sort out prognosis-related molecular biomarkers for HNSCC and establish a prognostic model to stratify the risk hazards and predicate the prognosis for these patients, providing a theoretical basis for the formulation of individual treatment plans.

Background: Although labor pain is treated clinically by the administration of local anesthetics alone or with opioids in the epidural or spinal spaces, however, the mechanisms of labor pain mechanisms have not been fully elucidated during to the lack of animal models, and the side effects of drugs still existed. Spinal microglia can be activated or mobilized under several pain states, and we want to explore the activation of spinal microglia is involved in the acute uterine cervical distension rats or not.
Methods: (I) The electromyographic (EMG) response to uterine cervical distension (UCD) was observed.

Background: Protein kinase Mζ (PKMζ), a typical brain-specific PKC isoform, has been shown to be critical in the maintenance of long-term potentiation and memory storage. Zeta inhibitory peptide (ZIP), a peptide with selective inhibition of PKMζ, has been used in relieving experimental neuropathic pain and disrupting memory. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of intra-amygdalar infusion of ZIP on neuropathic pain induced by chronic constriction injury (CCI), and inflammatory pain induced by complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) in adult rats.

Objectives: Despite the fact that it is widely acknowledged that immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) rely on the presence of immune response to take their antitumor effect, little is known whether there is an influence exerted on the efficacy of ICIs based on patients' age. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to explore the efficacy of ICIs between younger and older patients.
Materials And Methods: We searched online database and major conference proceedings for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published of ICIs and included RCTs that conducted subgroup comparisons of age with available combination of hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence interval (95%CI).

Background: Few studies to date have assessed the incidence of radiation pneumonitis (RP) in lung cancer patients who have been treated with volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). This study is aimed at reporting the RP incidence rate and the risk factors associated with a symptomatic RP in patients with lung cancer treated with VMAT.
Methods: A total of 77 consecutive lung cancer patients treated with VMAT from 2013 through 2015 were reviewed.
