Central post-stroke pain (CPSP) is a chronic neuropathic pain syndrome that commonly occurs after cerebral stroke, and it severely impairs the daily activities of stroke patients. A number of fundamental and clinical studies support the theory that CPSP is mainly caused by ischemic and hemorrhagic injury of the spinal-thalamic-cortical neural pathway. However, the underlying reasons of CPSP genesis and development are far from clear.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is recognized as a highly malignant tumor. Targeted combination immunotherapy, the initially approved regimen, is compromised by adverse side effects and low response rates during clinical treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine and its derived natural compounds, known for their anticancer effects, offer advantages of low toxicity and cost.

Methods: Utilizing summary-level data from a genome-wide association study (GWAS), we conducted a two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) analysis, a genetic approach that uses genetic variants as instrumental variables to assess the causal relationships between risk factors and outcomes. This analysis involved genetically predicted PCOS (1,639 cases and 218,970 controls) and inflammatory proteins (14,824 participants of primarily European descent).

Bone is a richly innervated and vascularized tissue, whereas nerve-vascular network reconstruction was often ignored in biomaterial design, resulting in delayed or incomplete bone healing. Inspired by the bone injury microenvironments, here we report a controllable drug delivery strategy using a pH and reactive oxygen species (ROS) dual-response injectable hydrogel. Based on the dynamic borate ester bond covalent crosslinking, nano-hydroxyapatite (HA) and curculigoside (CCG) are integrated into PVA/TSPBA (PT) to construct a responsive injectable hydrogel (PTHC), which scavenges excessive ROS from the injury microenvironment and responsively releases HA and CCG, providing favorable homeostasis and sustained release drug delivery system for bone repair.

Gliomas, the most common and deadly cancers of the central nervous system, present a unique immunological barrier that severely undermines the effectiveness of immunotherapies. Suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1), belonging to the SOCS protein family and playing a pivotal role in various cancer treatment strategies and is abundant in high-grade gliomas. This study conducted a comparative analysis of SOCS1 and glioma immune checkpoints.

Background: Life's Essential 8 (LE8) is the American Heart Association (AHA)'s recently updated assessment of cardiovascular health (CVH). Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is one of the most common chronic noncommunicable diseases associated with CVH impairment and an increased risk of mortality. However, the association of LE8 with all-cause and disease-specific mortality in the MetS population remains unknown.

Dermatomyositis (DM) positive for anti-melanoma differentiation-associated gene 5 (MDA5) antibodies, mainly when linked with rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (RP-ILD), is considered a refractory disease. Our report describes a critical case of clinically amyopathic dermatomyositis (CADM) with RP-ILD that tested positive for both anti-MDA5 and anti-Ro-52 antibodies. The patient showed a limited response to a combined therapy regimen of prednisone, iguratimod, and tacrolimus.

Background: N, N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) is the predominant active ingredient found in insect repellents utilized by consumers. Exposure to DEET has been associated with notable risks to human health. Nonetheless, there is a scarcity of extensive cohort studies investigating the precise correlation between DEET exposure and mortality rates among cancer survivors.

Snake envenomation poses significant medical challenges, particularly in subtropical and tropical regions, with long-term impacts on neurovascular integrity and neuroinflammation remaining underexplored. This study investigates the effects of venom from four species of venomous snakes in southern China-Zhoushan Cobra (Naja atra, NA), Many-banded Krait (Bungarus multicinctus, BM), Five-paced Pit Viper (Deinagkistrodon acutus, DA), and Chinese Moccasin (Protobothrops mucrosquamatus, PM) - on the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and chronic neuroinflammation. Using mass spectrometry, we analyzed venom protein compositions, while cytotoxic effects on mouse brain endothelial cells (bEND.

Ginsenosides (GS), including total GS, Rh2, Rg3 and compound K (CK), have been utilized as adjuvants in transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), surgery, and chemotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) therapy. However, the safety and efficacy of such combination treatments have been contradictory across different studies. This study aims to systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of GS as adjuvant therapy for HCC.

Background: Despite significant reductions in mother-to-child HIV-1 transmission risks due to the advancements and scale-up of antiretroviral therapy (ART), the global burden of HIV-1 drug resistance (HIVDR) in treatment-naive and treatment-experienced children and adolescents remains poorly understood. In this study, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to estimate the prevalence of HIVDR in these populations globally, regionally, and at the country level.
Methods: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science for studies reporting HIVDR in treatment-naive and treatment-experienced children and adolescents from inception to June 28, 2024.

Research on degenerative spondylolisthesis (DS) has focused primarily on the biomechanical responses of pathological segments, with few studies involving muscle modelling in simulated analysis, leading to an emphasis on the back muscles in physical therapy, neglecting the ventral muscles. The purpose of this study was to quantitatively analyse the biomechanical response of the spinopelvic complex and surrounding muscle groups in DS patients using integrative modelling. The findings may aid in the development of more comprehensive rehabilitation strategies for DS patients.

The reversal of liver fibrosis requires effective strategies to reduce oxidative stress and inhibition of hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activation. MiR-4500 regulates pathological angiogenesis and collagen mRNA stability, with the potential to inhibit fibrosis. Herein, we explored the inhibition of HSC activation in vitro by exosomes (Exos) carrying miR-4500 and encapsulated Exos in an intelligent injectable hydrogel with biological activity and reactive oxygen species (ROS) responsiveness for application in oxidative stress environments.
