Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) catalyzed by transition metal and starvation therapy catalyzed by intracellular metabolite oxidases are both classic tumor treatments based on nanocatalysts. CDT monotherapy has limitations including low catalytic efficiency of metal ions and insufficient endogenous hydrogen peroxide (HO). Also, single starvation therapy shows limited ability on resisting tumors.

Purpose: Long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) play a pivotal role in gastric tumorigenesis, while exosomes facilitate the LncRNAs transferring to recipient cells. However, the roles of exosomal LncRNAs in gastric premalignant lesions (GPL) remain unclear.

Methods: We analyzed the expression of LncHOXA10 and its role in GPL progression.

Although tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), including imatinib, have greatly improved clinical treatment of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), drug resistance remains a major obstacle. Studies on the mechanisms underlying imatinib resistance and other alternative drugs are urgently needed. Liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry was applied to investigate the differences in proteomics and phosphoproteomics between K562 and K562/G (imatinib resistant K562).

Exosomal microRNA-15a from mesenchymal stem cells impedes hepatocellular carcinoma progression via downregulation of SALL4.

Cell Death Discov

August 2021

Central Laboratory for Medical Research, Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, 200072, Shanghai, China.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a heterogeneous tumor with an increased incidence worldwide accompanied by high mortality and dismal prognosis. Emerging evidence indicates that mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)-derived exosomes possess protective effects against various human diseases by transporting microRNAs (miRNAs or miRs). We aimed to explore the role of exosomal miR-15a derived from MSCs and its related mechanisms in HCC.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is the main trigger of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Circular RNA plays an indispensable role in cancer development, and this study aimed to disclose the function and mechanism of circ_0027089 in HBV-related HCC. The expression levels of circ_0027089, miR-136-5p and nucleus accumbens associated protein 1 (NACC1) mRNA were measured by quantitative real-time PCR, and the protein level of NACC1 was detected by western blot.

Objective: Numerous epidemiological studies have been published to elucidate the potential associations of IL-17A -197G/A (rs2275913) and IL-17F 7488T/C (rs763780) with cancer risk in Asians. Nevertheless, the results from different studies remain controversial. To identify the roles of the two polymorphisms in cancer risk, we performed this current meta-analysis.

Rhubarb granule promotes diethylnitrosamine-induced liver tumorigenesis by activating the oxidative branch of pentose phosphate pathway via G6PD in rats.

J Ethnopharmacol

December 2021

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, School of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hefei, Anhui Province, PR China. Electronic address:

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Rhubarb is a natural herbal medicine widely used clinically with numerous pharmacological activities including anti-cancer. Specifically, several studies reported that free anthraquinones from Rhubarb suppressed the proliferation of hepatoma cells. Nonetheless, recent studies revealed that Rhubarb caused hepatotoxicity in vivo, confirming its "two-way" effect on the liver.

Adenosine deaminases acting on RNA 1 (ADAR1) has been identified to play key roles in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) progression, and can modulate the sensitivity of cancer cells to anticancer drugs. The current study aimed to investigate the effect of ADAR1 on the sensitivity of NSCLC cells to anlotinib. We established anlotinib-resistant NSCLC (NSCLC/AR) cells, including NCI-H1975/AR and A549/AR cells.

Prostatic stromal tumor of uncertain malignant potential (STUMP), characterized by an atypical, unique stromal proliferation of the prostate, is often difficult to be differentiated from other nonepithelial neoplastic lesions. We present a unique case of recurrent STUMP after transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) with concurrent prostatic adenocarcinoma. Patients diagnosed with prostatic STUMP should be followed up closely, for it may recur and invade adjacent organs after TURP shortly.

Mechanistic Insight Into the Roles of Integrins in Osteoarthritis.

Front Cell Dev Biol

June 2021

Department of Orthopedics, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, China.

Osteoarthritis (OA), one of the most common degenerative diseases, is characterized by progressive degeneration of the articular cartilage and subchondral bone, as well as the synovium. Integrins, comprising a family of heterodimeric transmembrane proteins containing α subunit and β subunit, play essential roles in various physiological functions of cells, such as cell attachment, movement, growth, differentiation, and mechanical signal conduction. Previous studies have shown that integrin dysfunction is involved in OA pathogenesis.

Background: Additional epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations confer the drug resistance to generations of EGFR targeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI), posing a major challenge to developing effective treatment of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). The strategy of combining EGFR-TKI with other synergistic or sensitizing therapeutic agents are considered a promising approach in the era of precision medicine. Moreover, the role and mechanism of SHP2, which is involved in cell proliferation, cytokine production, stemness maintenance and drug resistance, has not been carefully explored in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD).

Warfarin maintenance dose prediction for Chinese after heart valve replacement by a feedforward neural network with equal stratified sampling.

Sci Rep

July 2021

Department of Evidence-Based Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology, School of Medicine/West China Hospital, Sichuan University, No. 17, Section 3, Renmin South Road, Chengdu, 610041, Sichuan, China.

Patients requiring low-dose warfarin are more likely to suffer bleeding due to overdose. The goal of this work is to improve the feedforward neural network model's precision in predicting the low maintenance dose for Chinese in the aspect of training data construction. We built the model from a resampled dataset created by equal stratified sampling (maintaining the same sample number in three dose-groups with a total of 3639) and performed internal and external validations.
