Background: Paraquat (PQ) is a widely used and highly toxic herbicide that poses a significant risk to human health. The main consequence of PQ poisoning is pulmonary fibrosis, which can result in respiratory failure and potentially death. Our research aims to uncover a crucial mechanism in which PQ poisoning induces senescence in epithelial cells, ultimately regulating the activation of pulmonary fibroblasts through the exosomal pathway.

Introduction: Ceftazidime-avibactam (CAZ-AVI) is a new option to treat KPC- and OXA-48 carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) infections. However, clinical evidence is limited regarding its use in treating CRKP infections, especially in solid organ transplantation (SOT) recipients. In this study, we assessed the efficacy of CAZ-AVI in treating CRKP infections in both the general population and the SOT recipients in comparison with other antibiotic regimens.

Background: Ependymomas mostly locate in the infratentorial region and often occur in children. Anaplastic ependymomas account for 45-47% of supratentorial and 15-17% of infratentorial ependymomas, also known as malignant ependymomas. Adult supratentorial extraventricular anaplastic ependymoma (SEAE) is rare in clinical practice, and only a few cases have been reported so far, and there is no clinical study with large sample size.

Background: Apoptosis and pyroptosis are two types of programmed cell death related to the neuroinflammatory reaction after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Research indicates that triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) can regulate the SAH-induced inflammatory response. However, whether TREM2 regulates programmed cell death (apoptosis and pyroptosis) remains to be clarified.

Glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1) has gradually become a promising target for cancer prevention and treatment. However, subtle variations in GSTP1 can lead to the occurrence of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). The correlation between specific genotypes of GSTP1 and the clinical outcome of the disease has been extensively investigated, demonstrating a significant area of research in this field.

Background: Circular RNA is a type of non-coding RNA that is commonly found in eukaryotic genomes. They play an essential role in the biological processes of cell proliferation and cell apoptosis involved in normal development and abnormal tumorigenesis. In this study, we examined whether that the circular RNA GENE is substantially expressed in epithelial ovarian cancer, and then explored whether plays an important role in the occurrence and development of ovarian cancer.

Background: Increasing evidence has indicated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been proven to regulate esophageal cancer progression. The lncRNA protein disulfide isomerase family A member 3 pseudogene 1 (PDIA3P1) has been shown to promote cancer stem cell properties; however, its mechanism of action remains unclear. In this study, we investigated the regulation of esophageal cancer stem cell properties by the interaction of PDIA3P1 with proteins.

Achieving photothermal therapy (PTT) at ultralow laser power density is crucial for minimizing photo-damage and allowing for higher maximum permissible skin exposure. However, this requires photothermal agents to possess not just superior photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE), but also exceptional near-infrared (NIR) absorptivity. J-aggregates, exhibit a significant redshift and narrower absorption peak with a higher extinction coefficient.

Background: GPR65 is a pH-sensing G-protein-coupled receptor that acts as a key innate immune checkpoint in the human tumor microenvironment, inhibiting the release of inflammatory factors and inducing significant upregulation of tissue repair genes. However, the expression pattern and function of GPR65 in osteosarcoma (OS) remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate and elucidate the role of GPR65 in the microenvironment, proliferation and migration of OS.

Traditional markers, such as serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen, frequently show delayed elevations following acute kidney injury (AKI), limiting their utility for prompt detection and timely intervention in AKI management. Shear wave elastography (SWE) exhibits potential for AKI diagnosis by measuring tissue stiffness. Our study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of SWE in detecting AKI by measuring the stiffness of kidney tissue.

Cholinesterase (ChE) is associated with the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic airway inflammation and oxidation/antioxidant imbalance. However, the relationship between serum ChE levels and survival outcomes of patients hospitalized with acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD) is unknown. In this retrospective single-center study, we investigated the ability of the serum ChE level to predict in-hospital death in patients hospitalized with AECOPD.

Recent successive approval of anti-amyloid-β (Aβ) monoclonal antibodies as disease-modifying therapies against Alzheimer's disease (AD) has raised great confidence in the development of anti-AD therapies; however, the current therapies still face the dilemma of significant adverse reactions and limited effects. In this review, we summarized the therapeutic characteristics of the approved anti-Aβ immunotherapies and dialectically analyzed the gains and losses from clinical trials. The review further proposed the reasonable selection of animal models in preclinical studies from the perspective of different animal models of Aβ deposition and deals in-depth with the recent advances of exploring preclinical nanomedical application in Aβ targeted therapy, aiming to provide a reliable systematic summary for the development of novel anti-Aβ therapies.
