Exercise has been recommended as a nonpharmaceutical therapy to treat insulin resistance (IR). Previous studies showed that dopamine D1-like receptor agonists, such as fenoldopam, could improve peripheral insulin sensitivity, while antipsychotics, which are dopamine receptor antagonists, increased susceptibility to Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Meanwhile, exercise has been proved to stimulate dopamine receptors.

Asthma is a complex disease, often with evident genetic predisposition; for example, the single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs7130588 was significantly associated with asthma by genome-wide association study (GWAS). Analysis of 1000 Genomes Project data suggests that there is another SNP, rs6592645, in complete linkage disequilibrium with rs7130588 and should present the same signal in GWAS. However, the causal SNP and the mechanism for the association between rs7130588 and asthma remain to be elucidated.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the third leading cause of death worldwide, is influenced by genetic factors. The genetic signal rs10516526 in the glutathione S-transferase C-terminal domain containing () gene is a highly significant and reproducible signal associated with lung function and COPD on chromosome 4q24. In this study, comprehensive bioinformatics analyses and experimental verifications were detailly implemented to explore the regulation mechanism of rs10516526 and in COPD.

This study aims to elucidate the role of miR-23b-3p in mesenchymal stem cell exosomes in regulating the Wnt signaling pathway to promote autophagy of neurons and alleviate Parkinson's disease (PD) symptoms. We generated rat and cellular PD models with 6-OHDA, treated them with mesenchymal stem cell exosomes rich in miR-23b-3p and determined the expression of α-syn and Wnt/β-catenin pathway and autophagy-related genes. In the plasma of PD patients, the levels of miR-23b-3p and the Wnt/β-catenin pathway-related genes β-catenin and DAT were low, while α-syn expression was high.

Pericytes are crucial mural cells situated within cerebral microcirculation, pivotal in actively modulating cerebral blood flow via contractility adjustments. Conventionally, their contractility is gauged by observing morphological shifts and nearby capillary diameter changes under specific circumstances. Yet, post-tissue fixation, evaluating vitality and ensuing pericyte contractility of imaged brain pericytes becomes compromised.

Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury (MIRI) is an important factor leading to myocardial injury and necrosis, and can induce ischemic heart disease. Forkhead box protein N4 (FOXN4) belongs to the gene family of Fork head domain (Fox) transcription factors and plays an important role in heart formation and function. However, whether FOXN4 is involved in MIRI progression is unknown.

Thyroid cancer (TC) is a broad classification of neoplasms that includes differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) as a common histological subtype. DTC is characterized by an increased mortality rate in advanced stages, which contributes to the overall high mortality rate of DTC. This progression is mainly attributed to alterations in molecular driver genes, resulting in changes in phenotypes such as invasion, metastasis and dedifferentiation.

Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) is a rare and complicated clinical disease entity newly identified in recent years. It is a chronic inflammatory disease mediated by the immune system that can affect various organs throughout the body, such as the pancreas, salivary gland (submandibular gland, parotid gland, and sublingual gland), lacrimal gland, and thyroid gland. In rare cases, it involves sinuses and orbits.

Laminin Subunit Beta 3 (LAMB3) is a transcription factor and participates in the coding of laminin. It plays an important role in cell proliferation, adhesion, and transfer by regulating various target genes and signaling pathways. However, the role of LAMB3 in human pan-cancer immunology and prognosis is still poorly understood.

Background: Surface pathogens in the ICU pose a global public health threat, especially to elderly patients who are immunocompromised. To detect these pathogens, unbiased methods such as metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) are increasingly utilized for environmental microbiological surveillance.
Methods: In a six-month study from January to July 2022, we investigated microbial communities in Chinese geriatric ICUs by regularly monitoring multiple surfaces at three-month intervals.

Background & Aims: Distinct vascular patterns, including microvascular invasion (MVI) and vessels encapsulating tumour clusters (VETC), are associated with poor outcomes of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Imaging surrogates of these vascular patterns potentially help to predict post-resection recurrence. Herein, a prognostic model integrating imaging-based surrogates of these distinct vascular patterns was developed to predict postoperative recurrence-free survival (RFS) in patients with HCC.

Background: In Asia, axillary hyperhidrosis is a frequent problem for many people, and the consequent excessive sweating can seriously affect many aspects of daily life and even lead to mental disorders. Microwave therapy is a new, non-invasive treatment method for axillary hyperhidrosis, whose energy and long-term effectiveness still needs to be clinically validated.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy, safety, histological changes, and psychological status of microwave devices in the treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis and osmidrosis.

The immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) is a promising strategy for treating cancer. However, the efficiency of ICI monotherapy is limited, which could be mainly attributed to the tumor microenvironment of the "cold" tumor. Prostate cancer, a type of "cold" cancer, is the most common cancer affecting men's health.

Sonic hedgehog (Shh)-group medulloblastoma (MB) (Shh-MB) encompasses a clinically and molecularly distinct group of cancers originating from the developing nervous system with aberrant high Shh signaling as a causative driver. We recently reported that RNF220 is required for sustained high Shh signaling during Shh-MB progression; however, how high RNF220 expression is achieved in Shh-MB is still unclear. In this study, we found that the ubiquitin E3 ligases Smurf1 and Smurf2 interact with RNF220, and target it for polyubiquitination and degradation.

Background: Whereas the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and Addenbrooke's cognitive examination-revised (ACE-R) are commonly used tests for the detection of post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI), these instruments take 10-30 min to administer and do not assess processing speed, which is a critical impairment in PSCI. MemTrax (MTx) is a continuous recognition test, which evaluates complex information processing, accuracy, speed, and attention, in 2 min.
Aim: To evaluate whether MTx is an effective and practical tool for PSCI assessment.
