Antiretroviral therapy can reduce human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) load to undetectable levels and restore CD4+ T cells to rebuild immune function in patients with HIV. However, some patients fail to achieve immune reconstitution despite treatment. Traditional Chinese medicine is an important branch of complementary and alternative medicine for the treatment of HIV infection, and a growing number of studies has demonstrated that traditional Chinese medicine can increase CD4+ T cell counts in patients, thereby promoting immune reconstitution, ameliorating symptoms and signs, and improving quality of life.

May 2023

Medical Genetic Institute of Henan Province, Henan Provincial People's Hospital, Zhengzhou University People's Hospital, Zhengzhou, China.

Background: In the past decade, SETBP1 has attracted a lot of interest on that the same gene with different type or level (germline or somatic) of variants could provoke different pathologic consequences such as Schinzel-Giedon syndrome, SETBP1 Haploinsufficiency Disorder (SETBP1-HD) and myeloid malignancies. Whole exome sequencing was conducted to detect the etiology of a pregnant woman with mental retardation. As a new oncogene and potential marker of myeloid malignancies, somatic SETBP1 variants in other cancers were rarely studied.

Electronic address:

Human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) transplantation is a promising therapy for Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, hUC-MSCs cultured in vitro easily exhibit replicative senescence, which restricts their application. Although MG53 protein demonstrates multiple roles for a variety of cells and tissues repair, it remains unknown whether MG53 could rejuvenate senescent hUC-MSCs and enhance their efficacy in AD model.
