Article Synopsis
  • - Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) occurs when the immune system reacts aggressively to infection, leading to neuroinflammation and organ dysfunction, with the m6A methylation of RNA molecules playing a crucial role in inflammation.
  • - The enzyme ALKBH5, a demethylase that removes m6A modifications, was studied to understand its effects on neuroinflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in BV2 cells and mice, showing that increased ALKBH5 levels reduced inflammatory responses.
  • - Findings indicated that lower ALKBH5 levels were found in sepsis patients' blood, correlating with symptom severity, suggesting ALKBH5 could be a promising target for therapeutic approaches

The impact of parental migration on screen exposure among children aged 1-66 months in rural China.

BMC Public Health

October 2024

Department of Health Policy and Management, School of Public Health, Hangzhou Normal University, No. 2318 Yuhangtang Road, Yuhang District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, 311121, China.

Background: Screen exposure, particularly recreational screen exposure, is an integral part of children's lives. However, little is known about how family factors influence children's excessive screen exposure, especially in the context of 69 million left-behind children experiencing parent-child separation in China. This study mainly concentrates on the correlation between parental migration, type of caregiver, depression and disciplinary practices of the caregiver and children's screen exposure, including average daily screen time (on weekdays or weekends) and screen content (recreational activities or learning activities).

Objective: Hypnotic benzodiazepine receptor agonists (HBRA) are frequently prescribed in pregnancy but little is known about their effects on pregnancy outcomes. Herein, we systematically reviewed the evidence on the effects of HBRA exposure during pregnancy and risk of preterm birth (PTB), small for gestational age (SGA), birth defects, and low birth weight (LBW).

Methods: We reviewed the databases of PubMed, CENTRAL, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science from the earliest possible date to 17th May 2024 and included all studies examining adverse pregnancy outcomes with gestational exposure to HBRA.

Mitochondria are central actors in diverse physiological phenomena ranging from energy metabolism to stress signaling and immune modulation. Accumulating scientific evidence points to the critical involvement of specific mitochondrial-associated events, including mitochondrial quality control, intercellular mitochondrial transfer, and mitochondrial genetics, in potentiating the metastatic cascade of neoplastic cells. Furthermore, numerous recent studies have consistently emphasized the highly significant role mitochondria play in coordinating the regulation of tumor-infiltrating immune cells and immunotherapeutic interventions.

Background: Contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) is a common complication after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2 (sST2) is associated with AKI. However, the relationship between sST2 and CI-AKI is unclear.

Fibroblast growth factor 21 alleviates acetaminophen induced acute liver injury by activating Sirt1 mediated autophagy.

Cell Signal

November 2024

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Wenzhou Medical University, University Town, Wenzhou, Zhejiang 325035, China. Electronic address:

Background And Aims: Acetaminophen (APAP) is the main cause of acute liver injury (ALI) in the Western. Our previous study has shown that fenofibrate activated hepatic expression of fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) can protect the liver form APAP injuries by promoting autophagy. However, the underlying mechanism involved in FGF21-mediated autophagy remains unsolved.

The impact of parental migration patterns, timing, and duration on the health of rural Chinese children.

Front Public Health

August 2024

Department of Health Management and Policy, School of Public Health, Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Background: Parent-child separation raises concerns for the well-being of 69 million left-behind children (LBC) in China. However, the effects of parental migration status, timing of migration, and migration duration on the health of children remain unclear. This study aims to explore the association between different parent-child separation experience and a range of health outcomes in rural Chinese children.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at how temperature affects visits to the emergency room for broken bones.
  • Researchers found that when it gets really hot (above 9.5 °C), more people show up at the hospital with fractures.
  • Men and people aged 18-65 are more likely to get hurt in high temperatures compared to others.

Endoscopic carpal tunnel release (ECTR) techniques have been established as a successful treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome and have proven equally effective as traditional open carpal tunnel release (OCTR) techniques in relieving pain and numbness. However, patients who undergo OCTR are more likely to experience scar tenderness and pillar pain and take longer to return to work. We present here a method of metacarpal small incision for carpal tunnel release (MSICTR) as a safe, reliable, cost-effective alternative surgical decompression of the median nerve of the wrist.

Identification of two distinct head and neck squamous cell carcinoma subtypes based on fatty acid metabolism-related signatures: Implications for immunotherapy and chemotherapy.

Medicine (Baltimore)

April 2024

Department of Otolaryngology, The First People's Hospital of Yuhang District (The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Liangzhu Branch), Hangzhou, China.

The dysregulation of lipid metabolism is a critical factor in the initiation and progression of tumors. In this investigation, we aim to characterize the molecular subtypes of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) based on their association with fatty acid metabolism and develop a prognostic risk model. The transcriptomic and clinical data about HNSCC were obtained from public databases.
