State Key Laboratory of Optometry, Ophthalmology and Vision Science, School of Ophthalmology and Optometry and Eye Hospital, Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, China.

Neuronal radial migration is a fundamental process for cortical development, the disruption of which causes neurological and psychiatric dysfunctions. SLIT2 plays diverse functions in brain development and is a well-known axon guidance molecule. In this study, we investigated the radial migration of projection neurons in the developing cerebral cortex by knockdown (KD) of in mice.

Granulocytic sarcoma (GS), also known as extramedullary myeloid tumor, is a rare malignant neoplasm composed of immature myeloid cells. Although it is most commonly associated with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a subset of GS cases can occur prior to the development of AML. GS can present in a variety of extramedullary locations, including bone, skin, lymph nodes, and the female reproductive system.

Objective: This study sought to examine the effect of the appendicular skeletal muscle index (ASMI) and trunk muscle index (TMI) on the likelihood of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) among female adults.

Methods: This investigation utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2001 to 2006 and 2011-2018. To evaluate the impact of ASMI and TMI on the likelihood of SUI, the study utilized restricted cubic splines (RCS) and weighted multivariable logistic regression models.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common neurodegenerative disease characterized by amyloid-β (Aβ) deposition and neurofibrillary tangles formed by high phosphorylation of tau protein. At present, drug therapy is the main strategy of AD treatment, but its effects are limited to delaying or alleviating AD. Recently, non-pharmacologic intervention has attracted more attention, and more studies have confirmed that non-pharmacologic intervention in AD can improve the patient's cognitive function and quality of life.

Article Synopsis
  • The Naples prognostic score (NPS) is a scoring system used to predict mortality risk in various health conditions, including its recent application to individuals with Metabolic Syndrome (MetS).
  • This study analyzed data from over 13,700 adults with MetS to determine the relationship between NPS levels and both all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, finding that higher NPS scores were linked to increased death rates.
  • Results indicated that individuals in the high NPS group had significantly higher risks for all-cause mortality (HR 1.74) and cardiovascular mortality (HR 1.60), highlighting the importance of NPS as a clinical tool in assessing health risks in MetS patients.

Heart Rhythm

November 2024

Department of Cardiology, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, People's Republic of China; Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Intervention and Regenerative Medicine of Zhejiang Province, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

Background: Patients with an indication for a cardiovascular implantable electronic device (CIED) are complicated with special cardiomyopathy or other unspecified cardiac abnormalities and may need endomyocardial biopsy (EMB). However, EMB by a bioptome is usually avoided to reduce the risk of lead displacement in the CIED periprocedural period.

Objective: We aimed to assess the safety and feasibility of a novel approach for transvenous right ventricular (RV) EMB using the lead sheath method (L-S-M) during CIED implantation and compared it with the traditional bioptome method (T-B-M).

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the effects of sodium octanoate (SO) on sepsis-induced myocardial dysfunction (SIMD) using a mouse model to see how it works.
  • Male mice were injected with substances to induce sepsis and treated with SO at specific intervals, while researchers analyzed the relationship between SO and a receptor called GPR84, along with examining the heart's energy metabolism and histone modifications.
  • Results showed that SO improved heart function, reduced oxidative stress, boosted GPR84 expression, and enhanced energy metabolism in the heart, suggesting it protects against SIMD through both anti-inflammatory actions and energy enhancements.
