The use of hyperbaric oxygen (HBO 2 ) in the field of traumatic brain injury (TBI) is becoming more widespread and increasing yearly, however there are few prognostic reports on long-term functional efficacy. The aim of this study was to assess the functional prognosis of patients with moderate-to-severe TBI 5-8 years following HBO 2 treatments and to explore the optimal HBO 2 regimen associated with prognosis, using a retrospective study. Clinical data were retrospectively collected as a baseline for patients with moderate-to-severe TBI treated with HBO 2 during inpatient rehabilitation from January 2014 to December 2017.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic inflammation that gradually leads to cartilage degradation. Prolonged chondrocyte oxidative stress contributes to the development of diseases, including chondrocyte apoptosis, cartilage matrix degradation, and aggravation of articular cartilage damage. Bilirubin (BR) possesses strong antioxidant properties by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and potent protection effects against inflammation.

Objective: Complement C1q tumor necrosis factor-related protein 3 (CTRP3) and 9 (CTRP9) are two of the most extensively studied adipokines, known for their diverse biological functions. However, it remains unclear whether serum levels of CTRP3 or CTRP9 are associated with connective tissue diseases (CTD).
Methods: Serum CTRP3 and CTRP9 levels were measured by enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay (ELISA) and analyzed in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS), ankylosing spondylitis (AS), undifferentiated connective tissue disease (UCTD), as well as in healthy controls (HCs).

Background: Ferroptosis is an important type of cell death contributing to myocardial dysfunction induced by whole body ischemia reperfusion following cardiac arrest (CA) and resuscitation. Sulforaphane (SFN), known as the activator of the nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), has been proven to effectively alleviate regional myocardial ischemia reperfusion injury. The present study was designed to investigate whether SFN could improve post-resuscitation myocardial dysfunction by inhibiting cardiomyocytes ferroptosis and its potential regulatory mechanism.

Persistent activation of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) plays a crucial role in the development of sepsis-related acute lung injury (ALI). This study investigated key molecular mechanisms involved in the hyperactivation of PMNs during ALI. A mouse model of sepsis-related ALI was generated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic, lifelong disease, so IBD patients are highly susceptible to negative emotions, such as anxiety and depression, resulting in a reduced quality of life. Mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) is widely used to reduce stress, anxiety and depression in people. Therefore, this study conducted a systematic review of mindfulness-based intervention training on anxiety, depression, and quality of life in patients with IBD through meta-analysis.

Background: Previous meta-analyses have investigated the efficacy of lipid-lowering therapies for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease; however, few have focused on patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). This meta-analysis aimed to compare the benefits of intensive lipid-lowering therapy with those of background statin therapy in patients with ACS.
Methods: Searches were performed on PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and ClinicalTrials.

Thrombosis and plasma leakage are two of the most frequent dysfunctions of polypropylene (PP) hollow fiber membrane (PPM) used in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy. In this study, a superhydrophilic endothelial membrane mimetic coating (SEMMC) was constructed on polydopamine-polyethyleneimine pre-coated surfaces of the PPM oxygenator and its ECMO circuit to explore safer and more sustainable ECMO strategy. The SEMMC is fabricated by multi-point anchoring of a phosphorylcholine and carboxyl side chained copolymer (PMPCC) and grafting of heparin (Hep) to form PMPCC-Hep interface, which endows the membrane superior hemocompatibility and anticoagulation performances.

In assisted reproduction techniques, oocytes encounter elevated levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) during in vitro maturation (IVM). Oxidative stress adversely affects oocyte quality, hampering their maturation, growth, and subsequent development. Thus, mitigating excessive ROS to safeguard less viable oocytes during IVM stands as a viable strategy.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a kind of respiratory disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), primarily spreads through the respiratory tract from human to human. Its extensive and rapid spread has led to a global pandemic, causing great harm to human health and economic development all over the world. Current known evidence indicates that SARS-CoV-2 has evolved accumulating multiple mutations, with altered infectivity and viral replication capacity.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is a subtype of lung cancer that occurs frequently and results in high mortality and morbidity, comprising almost 50% of all cases with the disease. Previously, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) was evidenced to be helpful in the diagnosis and prognosis of LUAD. lncRNA AGAP11 was identified as a dysregulated lncRNA in LUAD.

To explore the clinical application value of intracavitary electrocardiogram (ECG) localization combined with ultrasound in central venous catheterization in critically ill patients. A total of 103 patients who were treated in the intensive care unit of our hospital from October 2020 to June 2023 were selected as the study subjects, and according to the differences in their central venous catheter placement methods, they were divided into study group (n = 52, receiving ultrasound combined with intracavitary ECG localization for catheterization) and control group (n = 51, receiving routine catheterization). The differences in the catheter placement accuracy, catheter depth, catheter placement duration, incidence of catheter-related complications, length of stay, and hospitalization expenses between the 2 groups were compared.

As the world population ages, osteoporosis, the most common disease of bone metabolism, affects more than 200 million people worldwide. The etiology is an imbalance in bone remodeling process resulting in more significant bone resorption than bone remodeling. With the advent of the osteoimmunology field, the immune system's role in skeletal pathologies is gradually being discovered.

Background: Cellular immunotherapy, represented by the chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T), has exhibited high response rates, durable remission, and safety in vitro and in clinical trials. Unfortunately, anti-CD19 CAR-T (CART-19) treatment alone is prone to relapse and has a particularly poor prognosis in relapsed/refractory (r/r) B-ALL patients. To date, addressing or reducing relapse remains one of the research priorities to achieve broad clinical application.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in situ can occur on any skin or mucus surface and is more commonly found in elderly patients on areas of skin that have been sunburnt. Most previous case reports are from dermatologists, with few published reports from pathologists. In this study, three patients underwent pathological routine and auxiliary immunohistochemical (IHC) examination and were ultimately diagnosed with pagetoid SCC in situ - a different diagnosis from the initial clinical assessment.
