The aim of the present study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of anlotinib combined with vinorelbine (NVB) as a second-line treatment for elderly patients with advanced squamous cell lung carcinoma (SqCLC). The present retrospective analysis included 48 elderly patients (aged ≥65 years) diagnosed with advanced SqCLC who received anlotinib in combination with NVB as a second-line therapy between January 2021 and December 2023. The primary endpoints assessed were overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR) and safety profile.

Elevated HIF-1α levels in maintenance hemodialysis patients: a potential link to increased cognitive impairment risk.

Introduction: In China, an increasing number of patients with end-stage renal disease are undergoing hemodialysis treatment. While this treatment yields relatively positive outcomes, the prevalence of cognitive impairment in patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis ranges from 24 to 80%, which is significantly higher than the general population.

Method: In this retrospective study, a total of 120 patients with kidney disease undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) were enrolled.

Diversity and genetic characterization of orthohantavirus from small mammals and humans during 2012-2022 in Hubei Province, Central China.

Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is a significant public health problem in Hubei Province, China, where a novel strain of orthohantavirus, HV004, was reported in 2012. However, no systematic study has investigated the prevalence and variation of orthohantavirus in rodents and humans. Herein, 2137 small mammals were collected from ten HFRS epidemic areas in Hubei Province from 2012 to 2022, and 143 serum samples from patients with suspected hemorrhagic fever were collected from two hospitals from 2017 to 2021.

Background: Birth asphyxia causes hypoxia or inadequate perfusion to the organs of newborns, leading to metabolism dysfunctions including blood glucose disorders.

Methods: Neonates with and without birth asphyxia were retrospectively recruited from 53 hospitals in Hubei Province from January 1 to December 31, 2018. In summary, 875, 1139, and 180 cases in the control group, the mild asphyxia group, and the severe asphyxia group were recruited, respectively.

Rickettsia is the pathogen of Q fever, Brucella ovis is the pathogen of brucellosis, and both of them are Gram-negative bacteria which are parasitic in cells. The mixed infection of rickettsia and Brucella ovis is rarely reported in clinic. Early diagnosis and treatment are of great significance to the treatment and prognosis of brucellosis and Q fever.

A case report of brain abscess caused by Nocardia farcinica.

Background: Brain abscess due to the Nocardia genus is rarely reported and it is usually found in immunocompromised patients. Treatment of Nocardia brain abscess is troublesome and requires consideration of the severity of the underlying systemic disease. The difficulties in identifying the bacterium and the frequent delay in initiating adequate therapy often influence the prognosis of patients.
