Nine undescribed phloroglucinol derivatives (dryatraols A-I) with five different backbones and three known dimeric acylphloroglucinols were isolated from the rhizome of Dryopteris atrata (Wall. Ex Kunze) Ching (Dryopteridaceae). Dryatraol A contains an unprecedented carbon skeleton-a butyrylphloroglucinol and a rulepidanol-type sesquiterpene are linked via a furan ring to form a 6/5/6/6 ring system.

Copper is an essential trace element in an organism, and changes in copper levels often indicate a diseased state. Copper and immunity have been discussed since the last century, with copper deficiency significantly affecting the development and function of the immune system, such as increased host susceptibility to various pathogens, decreased number and impaired function of neutrophils, reduced antibacterial activity of macrophages, decreased proliferation of splenocytes, impaired B cell ability to produce antibodies and impaired function of cytotoxic T lymphocyte and helper T cells. In the past 20 years, some studies have shown that copper ions are related to the development of many tumors, including lung cancer, acute lymphoid leukaemia, multiple myeloma and other tumors, wherein copper ion levels were significantly elevated, and current studies reveal that copper ions are involved in the development, growth and metastasis of tumors through various pathways.

To identify therapeutic targets in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), we conducted growth inhibition screens of 2040 small molecules from a library of FDA-approved drugs using a panel of 12 AML cell lines. Tegaserod maleate, a 5-hydroxytryptamine 4 receptor partial agonist, elicits strong anti-AML effects in vitro and in vivo by targeting transient receptor potential melastatin subtype 8 (TRPM8), which plays critical roles in several important processes. However, the role of TRPM8 remains incompletely described in AML, whose treatment is based mostly on antimitotic chemotherapy.

Metabolic reprogramming has been shown to be involved in cancer-induced pre-metastatic niche (PMN) formation, but the underlying mechanisms have been insufficiently explored. Here, we showed that hydroxyacid oxidase 1 (HAO1), a rate-limiting enzyme of oxalate synthesis, was upregulated in the alveolar epithelial cells of mice bearing metastatic breast cancer cells at the pre-metastatic stage, leading to oxalate accumulation in lung tissue. Lung oxalate accumulation induced neutrophil extracellular trap (NET) formation by activating NADPH oxidase, which facilitated the formation of pre-metastatic niche.

An increasing number of epidemiological studies have suggested that birth weight (BW) may be a determinant of bone health later in life, although the underlying genetic mechanism remains unclear. Here, we applied a pleiotropic conditional false discovery rate (cFDR) approach to the genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics for lumbar spine bone mineral density (LS BMD) and BW, aiming to identify novel susceptibility variants shared between these two traits. We detected 5 novel potential pleiotropic loci which are located at or near 7 different genes (NTAN1, PDXDC1, CACNA1G, JAG1, FAT1P1, CCDC170, ESR1), among which PDXDC1 and FAT1P1 have not previously been linked to these phenotypes.
