Lactic acidosis is one of the severe adverse reactions of linezolid. Its clinical manifestations are non-specific, primarily including abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, lethargy, rapid breathing, and tachycardia, with no reports of cardiac and respiratory arrest. In this case report, we present a 13-day-old male infant with omphalitis caused by methicillin-resistant  (MRSA) infection, who was treated with linezolid.

Dichotomous roles of neutrophils in modulating pathogenic and repair processes of inflammatory bowel diseases.

Precis Clin Med

December 2021

Center for Inflammatory Bowel Disease Research, the Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital, Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai 200072, China.

Neutrophils are considered as complex innate immune cells and play a critical role in maintaining intestinal mucosal homeostasis. They exert robust pro-inflammatory effects and recruit other immune cells in the acute phase of pathogen infection and intestinal inflammation, but paradoxically, they also limit exogenous microbial invasion and facilitate mucosal restoration. Hyperactivation or dysfunction of neutrophils results in abnormal immune responses, leading to multiple autoimmune and inflammatory diseases including systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).

Cytokines-mediated immunity is essential for the pathological development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Inhibition of signaling has suggested a potential remedial approach to RA. G protein-coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) has been proven to possess a broad range of physiological functions, but its function in synovial mast cells and RA is less reported.

Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury in diabetic patients leads to an increased incidence of complications and mortality. Secreted frizzled-related protein 4 (SFRP4) plays a critical role in diabetic myocardial ischemia-reperfusion. This paper aims to uncover the underlying mechanisms of SFRP4 in hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) injury of diabetic myocardial cells.

Circular (circ) RNAs are differentially expressed in gastric cancer (GC) and participate in the biological growth of tumor cells. Given that, investigations were performed to unravel the function of circ_0000654 in GC. GC tissue and normal tissue specimens were obtained, in which circ_0000654, microRNA (miR)-149-5p, and inhibin-beta A (INHBA) levels were examined.

Chemically modified chitosan nanoparticles (NPs) are capable of releasing their own substances to target cells or tissues, improving microenvironment and promoting wound healing. This study aimed to explore the molecular mechanism underlying chitosan NPs loaded with TGF-1 participating in cervical cancer (CC) progression. TGF-1-loaded-chitosan NPs were prepared and particle size distribution, zeta potential and encapsulation efficiency of NPs were determined.

Bile acids are a class of cholesterol derivatives that have been known for a long time for their critical roles in facilitating the digestion and absorption of lipid from the daily diet. The transformation of primary bile acids produced by the liver to secondary bile acids appears under the action of microbiota in the intestine, greatly expanding the molecular diversity of the intestinal environment. With the discovery of several new receptors of bile acids and signaling pathways, bile acids are considered as a family of important metabolites that play pleiotropic roles in regulating many aspects of human overall health, especially in the maintenance of the microbiota homeostasis and the balance of the mucosal immune system in the intestine.

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of a combination therapy of biologics and immunosuppressants with biological monotherapy in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Methods: Eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the comparison of the efficacy and safety of biologics and immunomodulators with biological monotherapy were identified from the EMBASE, PubMed and the Cochrane Library databases published up to 1 May 2020. Raw data were extracted, pooled relative risk (RR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) was calculated, the fixed-effect and inverse variance models were used.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a class of endogenous RNAs that are involved in osteosarcoma progression. Hsa_circ_0010220 (circ_0010220) is a circRNA generated by gene Rho Guanine Nucleotide Exchange Factor 10 Like (ARHGEF10L) and is upregulated in osteosarcoma, but its functional role in osteosarcoma is limited studied. This study aimed to illustrate the regulatory mechanism underlying circ_0010220 in osteosarcoma.

Monocyte chemotactic protein 1-induced protein 1 (MCPIP-1) is highly expressed in activated immune cells and plays an important role in negatively regulating immune responses. However, its role in regulating neutrophil functions in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is still unclear. Here, we found that MCPIP-1 was markedly increased at both the transcriptional and translational levels in inflamed mucosa of IBD patients compared with healthy controls, which was mainly expressed in neutrophils.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one type of the most common malignancies in the world. In the process of exploring the pathological mechanism of GC and searching for treatment methods, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) display significant participation. Small ubiquitin-like modifier 1 pseudogene 3 (SUMO1P3) is a newly identified lncRNA, of which the biological role and underlying mechanism in GC progression have not been elucidated.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) is typically featured by a low 5-year survival rate, hence there is a necessary to investigate new biomarkers in LUAD progression. Competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network has been widely reported in the regulation of tumor processes, which is also the main direction of this paper. Based on the data of GEPIA database, lncRNA MAFG-AS1 was upregulated in LUAD tissues, which was associated with poor prognosis of patients.
