Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) can result in structural and functional damage to the spinal cord, which may lead to loss of limb movement and sensation, loss of bowel and bladder control, and other complications. Previous studies have revealed the critical influence of trans-acting transcription factor 1 (SP1) in neurological pathologies, however, its role and mechanism in SCI have not been fully studied.

Methods: The study was performed using mouse microglia BV2 stimulated using lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and male adult mice subjected to spinal hitting.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how Rosa roxburghii affects insulin resistance and regulates key signaling pathways in obese rats by comparing several treatment groups over a period of 20 weeks.
  • Five groups of male SD rats were divided into normal control, model, positive control, low-dose, and high-dose Rosa roxburghii, with only the normal control group on a normal diet.
  • Results showed that the model group had increased body weight and insulin resistance markers, while Rosa roxburghii treatments significantly reduced these markers and improved the signaling proteins involved in glucose regulation.

Vascular endothelial barrier dysfunction is the most prominent manifestation and important cause of mortality in infectious acute lung injury (ALI). Exogenous apelin is effective in ameliorating lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory response in ALI lungs, reducing exudation of lung tissue and decreasing mortality. This study set out to investigate the association between apelin and Friend leukemia integration-1 (Fli-1) in the prevention and treatment of ALI, and to elucidate the molecular mechanism by which apelin protects the permeability of the vascular endothelial barrier.

Background: Dyslipidemia is a major cause of arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) is the profile to be reduced to prevent disease progression. Small dense low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (sdLDL-C) has been proven to be a more effective biomarker than LDL-C for ASCVD primary and secondary prevention. is an important drug metabolism gene.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death worldwide, which has a long asymptomatic period of atherosclerosis. Thus, it is crucial to develop efficient strategies or biomarkers to assess the risk of CAD in asymptomatic individuals. A total of 356 consecutive CAD patients and 164 non-CAD controls diagnosed using coronary angiography were recruited.

Clin Immunol

March 2021

Department of Neuroimmunology, BGI College & Henan Institute of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Academy of Medical Science, Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou 450052, China. Electronic address:

In this study, the potential of specific Circular RNAs (circRNAs) as novel peripheral blood biomarkers for myasthenia gravis (MG) was explored. We analyzed circRNAs in the peripheral blood of three normal controls and three MG patients using RNA microarray. Candidate circRNAs were validated in three independent cohorts by Quantitative Real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR).

D-serine is a predominant N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor co-agonist with glutamate, and excessive activation of the receptor plays a substantial role in epileptic seizures. Serine racemase (SRR) is responsible for transforming L-serine to D-serine. In this study, we aimed to investigate the genetic roles of SRR and a neighbouring gene, nonsense-mediated mRNA decay factor (SMG6), in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE).

Front Neurol

July 2016

Guangdong Key Laboratory of Age-related Cardiac and Cerebral Diseases, Guangdong Medical University, Zhanjiang, Guangdong, China; Jinan University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China.

Previous evidence has indicated that downregulated ADAM10 gives rise to epileptic seizures in Alzheimer's disease, and this study investigated the association of ADAM10 with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) from a genetic perspective. A total of 496 TLE patients and 528 healthy individuals were enrolled and genotyped for ADAM10 promoter variants (rs653765 G > A and rs514049 A > C). The alleles, genotypes, and haplotypes were then compared with clarify the association of these variants with TLE and their impacts upon age at onset, initial seizure types before treatments, and responses to drug treatments.
