Background: Duloxetine, a serotonin-norepinephrine dual reuptake inhibitor, may improve analgesia after total joint arthroplasty (TJA). However, there is still no consensus on its effectiveness and safety. We conducted the meta-analysis to investigate the analgesic effect and safety of duloxetine for the treatment of patients received total knee or hip arthroplasty.

Background: Ralstonia is a genus of Gram-negative opportunistic bacteria that can survive in many kinds of solutions and cause a variety of infections. Ralstonia spp. have increasingly been isolated and reported to cause infections in recent years, thanks to the development of identification methods such as matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) and gene sequencing.

METTL7A is a protein-coding gene expected to be associated with methylation, and its expression disorder is associated with a range of diseases. However, few research have been carried out to explore the relationship between METTL7A and tumor malignant phenotype as well as the involvement potential mechanism. We conducted our research via a combination of silico analysis and molecular biology techniques to investigate the biological function of METTL7A in the progression of cancer.

Elevated BUN Upon Admission as a Predictor of in-Hospital Mortality Among Patients with Acute Exacerbation of COPD: A Secondary Analysis of Multicenter Cohort Study.

Int J Chron Obstruct Pulmon Dis

July 2023

Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • High blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels are observed in some patients with acute exacerbation of COPD (AECOPD) and may correlate with worse clinical outcomes, though past research has yielded mixed results.
  • A study analyzed data from 13,431 AECOPD patients, finding that those who did not survive had significantly higher BUN levels (9.5 vs 5.6 mmol/L), establishing a BUN cutoff of 7.30 mmol/L as a predictor of in-hospital mortality.
  • The findings indicate that elevated BUN is an independent risk factor for both in-hospital mortality and the need for intensive care, suggesting it could help in identifying and managing high-risk AECOPD patients.

Saikosaponin-D (SSD), an active ingredient in Bupleurum chinense, exerts anticancer effects in various cancers by inhibiting cancer proliferation and inducing apoptosis. However, whether SSD can induce other forms of cell death is unknown. The current study aims to demonstrate that SSD can induce pyroptosis in non-small-cell lung cancer.

Purpose: There is little information regarding the overall survival (OS) predictive ability of the combination of tumor burden score (TBS), α-fetoprotein (AFP), and albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) grade for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Here, we aimed to develop a model including TBS, AFP, and ALBI grade to predict HCC patient OS following liver resection.

Methods: Patients (N = 1556) from six centers were randomly divided 1:1 into training and validation sets.

(1) Background: At present, the efficacy and safety of thoracic radiotherapy (TRT) after chemo-immunotherapy (CT-IT) in patients with extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) still remain unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of TRT after CT-IT in patients with ES-SCLC. (2) Methods: From January 2020 to October 2021, patients with ES-SCLC treated with first-line anti-PD-L1 antibody plus platinum-etoposide chemotherapy were enrolled retrospectively.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the prognostic significance of diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) to identify its relationship with negative health outcomes.
  • A total of 13,633 AECOPD patients were examined, revealing that low DBP (<70 mmHg) on admission significantly increased the risk of in-hospital mortality, need for invasive mechanical ventilation, and ICU admission.
  • The research indicates that as DBP decreases, the risk of mortality rises, highlighting the importance of monitoring DBP in AECOPD patients upon hospital admission.

Background: Although a significant amount of literature has examined the association between childhood adversity and adverse health outcomes, which may be affected by sleep duration and life satisfaction. However, this relationship has not been researched in the Chinese population. This study aimed to assess the association between childhood adversity and health outcomes, with sleep duration and life satisfaction as mediators.

Dihydromyricetin (DHM) is an important natural flavonoid. However, most of DHM preparations have shown shortcomings such as low drug loading, poor drug stability, and/or large fluctuations in blood concentration. This study aimed to develop a gastric floating tablet with a double-layered structure for zero-order controlled release of DHM (DHM@GF-DLT).
